paddlefish and bowfins came up in my evolution of fishes course, didn't realize how utterly bizzare and amazing paddlefish looked in real life, for once not dissapointed in a youtube suggestion.
That's wild. I saw you toss the anchor at the start I immediately thought about snagging paddlefish. Then I recognized where you were fishing and figured that you were fishing for gar, which was right when you caught the melanistic fish. Then you caught a paddlefish. Very cool.
Caught a 20lb in kentucky and they were in season. Tried pan searing it and it was pretty chewy. Similar to swordfish, but some strange connective tissue. Ended up putting the rest in soup and it was excellent
That is such an amazing catch! I wasn't even aware till a few months ago that those are in Texas. Apparently the only way to catch them is to snag them but they can gre up to 7' in length
I was doing something else while this video was playing and I heard him say Paddlefish, and I was like Huh they only eat plankton why did he eat the lure. I realized you snagged it lol
If ever there is a living fossil..such a cool fish... wouldn't have minded seeing that black gar out of the water...some waters have a higher chance of dark colouration gar I think...
Awesome catches! I snagged one of those paddle fish in the '70s that the spillway below chickamauga lake. They are filter feeders and definitely different! Henry, I owe you an apology. The last post Ty made of you two fishing the same spot My comment said big fish Eddie. I'm baffled as to how that happened because in my mind I could have sworn I said Henry thanks for another awesome adventure.💪👊
I don't understand why you always set up by that pole😏...... great vid as always, that black gar was worth a small fortune to an aquarist...I know that doesn't matter to you, just an observation
First off, you guys are my favorite fishing pair on yt, love yalls vids together. Second off, that was the coolest looking paddlefish I've ever seen ty, and the melanistic alligator gar is always awesome. Great video.
That is such a beautiful fish! Awesome job. Ty, your numbers have gone up, excellent! You have the heart & soul of a fisherman and this translates into your videos perfectly!
Man those paddlefish are wild! It's said their fossil record dates back as far as 125 MILLION years ago!! Such an ancient weird fish. I wonder how much they've changed if at all during all of that time? I have to imagine they were much much bigger back then but as far as anything else goes I don't know. Great job handling that dinosaur!!
So much for immediate release! For some reason I thought you'd abide by that, shame on me. Was a cool catch and luckily it didn't suck in the bait. Treble hooks would have been a nightmare to dig out. - Tight lines y'all
They're filter fish like a whale. They don't actually bite lures or hooks. They eat plankton and other small things as they swim with their mouth open.
@jessiefayne4083 What are the chances you snag a big fish in their side, halfway to its tail? Pretty damn low, but it happened here. It could have easily unintentionally sucked in the lure, thats all I was saying. I'm well aware what they feed on and likelihood of hooking in mouth.
Personally I didn’t feel wrong about admiring the fish for a second as long as it stayed in the water! And I agree good thing it wasn’t stuck anywhere near the face!!
Congratulations brother we call’em shovel bill the eat plankton and that’s about it they do a lot of snagging for them. It’s a amazing fish. Congratulations again brother GOD BLESS
That was the biggest paddlefish I've seen. Beautiful markings on those huge gill flaps. Pity they're impossible to catch properly... That black gar was awesome. Albinism may be more common than melanism in nature overall, but I've never seen a true albino fish. Some of the French and Spanish wels are claimed as albino, but they're yellow, which tells me they lack melanin but still have carotenoids.
Agreed I wish you could target them easily and actually have them strike man!!! Yeah I’ve seen those big white catfish figured ppl were catching too many for them to be true albinos!!
its not illegal to fish and catch one. but its probably illegal to keep it. must release it if you do catch one lol . nice to see one though . lol thanks
Oh trust me you would have known if you would have screwed up you would have had one hell of a ticket yeah that's the thing that people need to learn you guys got to know all the rules and regulations are you can end up with one hell of a ticket
Here's one thing that a lot of people don't realize if you pull them out of the water you actually have to throw them back in the water throw them you don't do what they're doing if you take them out of the water you actually have to shock them back into swimming
@@AManintheWoods The survival rate of that fish would be substantially better if you did take the hook out or lure depending on where it is hooked, honestly I would reel it in close enough to land and see where its hooked and if you could get it out with some pliers real quick do that rather than have a fish that could potentially not be able to feed properly or get snagged on something with a trail of line behind it. Main thing is not taking it out of the water and trying to not cause more stress taking the hook out rather than leaving it. Much love from an Alaskan :)
@@AManintheWoodsno, it’s fine to take the hook out. They eventually fall out. They have a poor survival rate once landed. You can blame the past generations for overfishing them. A fish’s life shouldn’t be at risk because fisherman want a photo.
never commented because im always speachless. love the calm but passionate additude of your videos. respect!
Thank you very much for watching and commenting today!!
Thanks, I tuned in for some relaxation.
I've seen a shit ton of fishing videos and this was way up there man. Congrats. Beautiful animal and well handled and taken care of. A++

No but I really want to!!
That was a crazy paddle fish.

Thank you Mike!!!

Well, there you go, catching another personal best, and all.
Haha thank you man!!!

awesome catch both of you pretty awesome
Big Bait Hole! Last one here was Cool!
I wonder how old the spoonbill is
That’s a great question man, one I’d love to know!!!
In MS where I used to fish people would snagline using spark plugs. Used to see paddlefish bones on the rocks all the time. Back in the 80s.
A job well done Ty!
Caught a 20lb in kentucky and they were in season. Tried pan searing it and it was pretty chewy. Similar to swordfish, but some strange connective tissue. Ended up putting the rest in soup and it was excellent
Legal for snagging at certain times of year here in Kentucky at the dam of Kentucky lake
Oh, I wondered how you caught the paddlefish. Snag job, crazy. Nice minnow.
Love your videos, what size saltiga reel do you recommend for and ultra light rod? Keep doing what you do!
A size 1000 of any spinning reel is perfect, with 4 lb line!!!
👍😎
Thanks man!
Beautyfull catch dude👌👌💪🔥
Amazing catch bro
How did you… nah that’s crazy keep up the good fishing and earlier I caught a 7 pound smallmouth bass

Very cool catch Ty. The prehistoric beast.
Thank you Daniel!!!
That is such an amazing catch! I wasn't even aware till a few months ago that those are in Texas. Apparently the only way to catch them is to snag them but they can gre up to 7' in length
A unique catch for Texas waters!
Thank you very much!!!
WOW, never seen one close up like that. Those gill flaps were really neat.
Man, those fish are so ancient. it's so cool to see one surfaced for a short amount of time
Love these vids
Thank you!!
Loved this video and your concern for the fish. As always your enthusiasm gets my blood going. Thanks for the day brightener.
What was up with that paracord looking leader.
That is awesome to know they are in Texas waters and are protected talking about the Paddle Fish
Yeah man agreed they deserve to grow big!!
Wow so very cool to see those two specimens! Thanks for the footage!
What a crazy catch on that setup! Awesome fish.
Thank you very much man!!!!
Amazing, amazing adventure! Thank you for sharing it with us.
How in the hell does the fish know it is illegal for it to be caught?
I was doing something else while this video was playing and I heard him say Paddlefish, and I was like Huh they only eat plankton why did he eat the lure. I realized you snagged it lol
Melanistic gar into a paddle fish
Ty what kind of leader is that?
What's even more rare than those fish is the unbridled excitement displayed by Henry from catching those fish 😆..I can tell he was stoked 💪💪
Haha yeah he was into it!!! We both were!!
Great video ty. Thank you for sharing
That was pretty darn cool.
Exotic fish today
Both of em I’m so stoked!
You and Henry always catch the coolest fish brother 😎
👍
Thanks brother!!!
One fish I have never caught! A giant paddle fish! Nice catch guys!!!!
Thank you Jason!!!
If ever there is a living fossil..such a cool fish... wouldn't have minded seeing that black gar out of the water...some waters have a higher chance of dark colouration gar I think...
You can get a permit in Arkansas at Millwood Dam to take 2 a day i think. Meat is like chicken and tastes amazing. Beautiful fish man!!!
What a beautiful Paddlefish! The melanistic Gar was pretty special too. Tight lines until next time 😁🦘🦘🦘
youtube been screwing you over with pushing your videos missed like the last month but illl catch up

Wooo hoooo! Happy Sunday, y’all! Let’s get some!
I don't understand why you always set up by that pole😏...... great vid as always, that black gar was worth a small fortune to an aquarist...I know that doesn't matter to you, just an observation
Hahaha 🤣 I’ve heard they are worth something yeah! I felt great letting it go tho 😀
What an incredible fish, the markings were insane! My brain might melt if I ever reel one of those bad larrys in🤯
hey you should go past that pole
It’d make it easier
😂😂😂😂 listen here Carl
You get to catch all the fun fish! 😂

Thank you very much man I thought that paddlefish was so cool too!!!
Great video, Ty! It was cool to be able to meet you at Bass Pro Shops just by chance. Hope you’re doing well, and enjoying your fishing!
Hey man thanks for saying Hi was great to meet you too, thanks so much for watching my videos I appreciate it!!
Both of those fish are my dream catches!!! Congrats to you guys
I don’t know but it’s really weird to see Ty catching a paddlefish lol
💜🎣
Very educational. Always careful of species and laws. You and your friends are great.
That is such a beautiful fish! Awesome job. Ty, your numbers have gone up, excellent! You have the heart & soul of a fisherman and this translates into your videos perfectly!
Those are rare fish to catch. But to catch a giant spoon fish man.. great job!
I got 5 on it🍐
Awesome paddlefish man, that thing was massive! As always I just love your respect and passion for the fish you catch
Thank you very much man!!!! Love comments like this!

Bowfin too! Their closest living relative is a gar. Bowfin can live completely out of water for HOURS thanks to a primitive lung!

wow, thanks for sharing these experiences. Any paddlefish is a treat to see, and that was an absolute hog!
400k subs congrats man I been here since u barely had 100k
Awesome catch
The proper term is that it is illegal to target that species. You can not intentionally try to catch it.
Missouri dudes eat em.
You always have the most entertaining fishing videos, love you! Hope you come here in Italy to catch monster wels catfish 😈. ❤
YOUR BEING WATCH😐
😂NICE CATCH👍🐿👍
Like 10 from indonesia bro ❤... 10:54 menit
That’s a big paddle. Get Texas fishing. Sharp hooks to ya.
its not illegal to fish and catch one. but its probably illegal to keep it. must release it if you do catch one lol . nice to see one though . lol thanks
omg why did you set up behind that pole, jk jk,, free comment
Hahaha someone had to say it
Pig 🐷 Patrol Rocks
How are people writing comments if they can't read the buoys? If "Keep out," is above your reading comprehension, you should be ashamed of yourself.
Hahaha I was trying to figure this out myself man!!
You da best
Hello
Where are you? NotTexoma. Lake o the Pines?
I want to see a law that makes catching a fish illegal😂. You can’t control what bites your lure🤦🏼♂️
Agreed, kind of hard to figure that one out!

How tf can they make catching a fish illegal? Like we really bouts be picking what decides to take our lures
I know it is so sad because something we can’t control can cause us legal issues. What is wrong with our government.
The law here says you must cut your line of you hook a sturgeon or Atlantic salmon. Wouldn’t it be better if I land it and take the hook out first?
