All they had to do was make the show libe up with the games minimum, that way normies could watch the show and go start halo after and have ot make sense. For normies its unrealistic to expect that to do their homework and read the books but to make the show canon depend on just the games could've made it accessible for all. But nooo, lets just do our own thing so the normies will be confused on why in the game you stumble on halo instead of deliberately hunting it down and theirs no space wizards or whatever was going on in quans story while upsetting fans like myself whonloved halo so much spent hours reading the books and whatever background lore we could find
Against what you might have been told, I for one do recommend playing the original Space Marine. It holds up IMO. The enemies aren't quite as numerous, the enviroment is notoriously brown and the final boss isn't the spectacle that SM2's is - and yet it does everything else just as good, and some things even better than the sequel. More characterful enemies, memorable set pieces and mid bosses. And ofcourse SM2's narrative is a direct continuation of SM1's. Despite all the years between them, the devs did not turn the new one into asoft reboot but proper sequel. Btw, the retro shooter 'Boltgun' is effectively SM 1,5.
That Amazon Secret Level episode coming out on the 10th of december is a direct continuation of Titus's story in SM2, basically a sequel to this game. It could be interesting to do a comparison as what to do and what not do with an adaptation.
I recommend checking out Warhammer 40k Darktide too, its combat is some of the best I have played of any game period, and its atmosphere, music, vibe is such 40k goodness.

The First Space Marine game was what introduced me to the franchise and made me fall in love with the world and lore of 40k. So happy to finally get a sequel that not only lives up to the original, but even surpasses it.

What space marine 2 has done for introducing the wider audiences to the 40K universe; is something I’ve desperately wanted since I was ten years old. Good, you've covered the tutorial, now the actual core of the game; the operations push you in your corners to master the well thought game mecanics that look simplistic at first glance but that actually are quite subtle.

@@workingjellyfish There's a wealth of official and fan animation for you to check out. But I heavily suggest getting your feet wet with Asterteas, it was such a good fan animation that GW hire the animator. That and the Text to speech series, a bit old but it's very much worth your time

I played Space Marine 2 with a friend in coop. My own impression was the campaign was nice, but it really clicked for me in the operations game mode (maybe because im not a good FPS player ) . In the campaign , the weapons kept changing, you were being forced into a gamestyle, you had forced weapons in boss fights everything seemed a bit random and haphazard, I didnt really feel the combat and how my skill affected it. Ofc the campaing had the additional benefit of great lore and storyline. The gameplay for me clicked when we started doing operations, and i could focus on one game style, that i liked, and see myself improving, and also progress perk wise. I can honestly say now, the camp[aing was fun, but i have more fun in operations mode, and its what elevated Space Marine 2 for me from good to very good.
I’ve been digging this game hard despite not having any context to the WarHammer world. I just love a good power fantasy. I personally don’t care for deep dramatic stories in games (I got movies for that) and I also don’t care for the Souls-like genre that’s taken off either, seems like they’re meant to treat players like a nobody in the world (I’m a nobody IRL already lol). I would never take those away from people of course, just not my taste and doesn’t mean others can’t. All the being said, I grew up playing Streets of Rage, Mario, Halo etc. I like being the big cheese that walks into a room, f’ks sh’t up and struts on the way out. Space Marine 2 fulfills my wants very nicely and coop’s been super fun with my bros.

The game is such a good marketing tool for games workshop. I have bought more black library novels to read and started painting some of their overpriced plastic. Whoever greenlit a second space marine game needs a raise.
EXACT same shit happened here man... been spending literally hundreds of hours in the last 2 months or so, getting asshole deep in some 40K lore and HOLY SHIT man... I couldn't be happier about that. Just kinda bewildered and sickened that I haven't somehow dived into 40K like this, prior to Space Marines 2. However, it was the trigger that set into motion, literally discovering something that has and will have a fairly decent impact on my life. lol I've even looked at the table top and plan on mastering the workings of that and hopefully, making my own little set of minatures to rage never ending, fucking forever war on my enemies (not sure exactly what I want to build yet though... idk... Necrons are cool, but seem like that's what a jackass would go to... Tau might be ok??? idk... I like humans fr. Really like Salamanders, (especially after those sick ass clips that came out not long ago, "Pariah Nexus", I believe is the correct title)... Death Corp of Krieg is fucking cool, real "National Socialist mixed WW1" type vibe, which the Nazis did fucking suck, but gotta give the devil his dues, those mfs had some killer Panzers and tech, a powerful, powerful, cutting edge military, with some good leaders (sadly, the Austrian Painter's ego kept him from staying the fuck out of most military planning, and more or less sidelined his leading generals and leaders, doing some REALLY stupid shit) AND those bastards had some really sharp looking uniforms, I mean, Hugo Boss doesn't design many nation's military clothing and fucking just sit aside all the evil and genocide, you gotta admit, SS uniforms with hobnail boots, looked SLICK

fun fact, if you dive into the details of the death korps of krieg, the none german ww1 influences are obvious, helmet is a mix of french 'Adrian' helmet and the German, the gas-mask is british and the coat looks more like a darker color version of the French ww1 overcoat than the german. to be fair to other reviewers (through gritted teeth and a hard grip on my boltgun) they dont have time to go away and study lore, hence why they didnt get it, not being the target audience.
Warhammer 40,000 is based in some leftist ideology back in the 80s but has evolved over time become more centric. So it’s shocking that Space Marine, with some of the most worrying writers, it’s amazing that it didn’t devolve into what most modern games have in the writing department. And yes. The game doesn’t do anything new, it is as if someone opened a time capsule. But that’s something we need. We need games to remember they’re not soap boxes. Games that remember you need to be fun. You need to have a solid core.
You are right. Most don’t know what it was previously. I enjoy seeing newer fans taking 40k seriously instead of seeing it as an evolution of a deep satire from back in the day.
This entire genre is extremely overrated.. I love deep lore. So I just assumed Warhammer would draw me into the world but honestly i find it extremely derivative and generic. I know mosts' knee jerk reaction is to get defensive but look inward and tell me this actually a good story and not just a bunch of cool artwork smashed together with story as an afterthought. Its all rule of cool all the way. Theres 0 thoughtfulness. Its like nerdyness without structure. Idk how to describe it. Its just not that cool or well thought out of a universe. I love all the top downs but the shooter games suck..(and usually I dont even like most other top down games) when they have to rely on in world narratives instead of straight up all out war it immediately starts to loose me. Space Marine 2 is deff a gamepass game especially with that combat. Im sorry tried it. Combat feels amazing for about an hour and then after that its a goddamn chore of press the same combination of buttons over and over till you want to puke. Cool visuals and sound design, yet its another game that intentionally slows your character to make up for subpar performance. The story is forgettable like basically all Warhammer lore.. And the characters feel like generic video game allies and fight like them too.. these big badass Space Marines get chewed up constantly and for some reason your one dude is worth like 10,000 of these other with all the same gear. They make every other space marine look like a bitch. Ehh it just feels like some chubby socially retarded neckbearded guy's version of manliness. I like that it pushes back against panty waisted creeps who think mindless pandering will help them loose their virginities but thats just not enough for me by itself and it shouldn't be for other imo.
Game is trash. Only 7 operations. Needs horde mode asap. Bolters are trash as well. Darktide does it better. Praying saber gets their ish together. Campaign is boring. No variety in the gamplay. No vehicle or turret sections is the bare minimum of variety. 3 PvP maps. They don’t care about you guys lol

Death Corp of Krieg is fucking cool, real "National Socialist mixed WW1" type vibe, which the Nazis did fucking suck, but gotta give the devil his dues, those mfs had some killer Panzers and tech, a powerful, powerful, cutting edge military, with some good leaders (sadly, the Austrian Painter's ego kept him from staying the fuck out of most military planning, and more or less sidelined his leading generals and leaders, doing some REALLY stupid shit) AND those bastards had some really sharp looking uniforms, I mean, Hugo Boss doesn't design many nation's military clothing and fucking just sit aside all the evil and genocide, you gotta admit, SS uniforms with hobnail boots, looked SLICK
but yea... Thanks for the developers and Games Workshop in general, for making this sweet ass game, catching my attention, and getting me hooked real good on the 40K crack... cause brother, if there was 40K crack, you could call me Tyrone Biggums.

fun fact, if you dive into the details of the death korps of krieg, the none german ww1 influences are obvious, helmet is a mix of french 'Adrian' helmet and the German, the gas-mask is british and the coat looks more like a darker color version of the French ww1 overcoat than the german. And the death korps of krieg officers look more like french Cavalry Officers than any german..

Warhammer 40,000 is based in some leftist ideology back in the 80s but has evolved over time become more centric.
So it’s shocking that Space Marine, with some of the most worrying writers, it’s amazing that it didn’t devolve into what most modern games have in the writing department.
And yes. The game doesn’t do anything new, it is as if someone opened a time capsule. But that’s something we need.
We need games to remember they’re not soap boxes. Games that remember you need to be fun. You need to have a solid core.
You are right. Most don’t know what it was previously. I enjoy seeing newer fans taking 40k seriously instead of seeing it as an evolution of a deep satire from back in the day.

This entire genre is extremely overrated..
I love deep lore. So I just assumed Warhammer would draw me into the world but honestly i find it extremely derivative and generic.
I know mosts' knee jerk reaction is to get defensive but look inward and tell me this actually a good story and not just a bunch of cool artwork smashed together with story as an afterthought. Its all rule of cool all the way. Theres 0 thoughtfulness.
Its like nerdyness without structure. Idk how to describe it. Its just not that cool or well thought out of a universe.
I love all the top downs but the shooter games suck..(and usually I dont even like most other top down games) when they have to rely on in world narratives instead of straight up all out war it immediately starts to loose me.
Space Marine 2 is deff a gamepass game especially with that combat. Im sorry tried it. Combat feels amazing for about an hour and then after that its a goddamn chore of press the same combination of buttons over and over till you want to puke.
Cool visuals and sound design, yet its another game that intentionally slows your character to make up for subpar performance.
The story is forgettable like basically all Warhammer lore..
And the characters feel like generic video game allies and fight like them too.. these big badass Space Marines get chewed up constantly and for some reason your one dude is worth like 10,000 of these other with all the same gear. They make every other space marine look like a bitch.
Ehh it just feels like some chubby socially retarded neckbearded guy's version of manliness.
I like that it pushes back against panty waisted creeps who think mindless pandering will help them loose their virginities but thats just not enough for me by itself and it shouldn't be for other imo.

Game is trash. Only 7 operations. Needs horde mode asap. Bolters are trash as well. Darktide does it better. Praying saber gets their ish together. Campaign is boring. No variety in the gamplay. No vehicle or turret sections is the bare minimum of variety. 3 PvP maps. They don’t care about you guys lol
