The series follows a timeline where an assassination on Möngke Khan of the Mongol Empire, results in his youngest brother becoming the new Great Khan and invades Japan a year earlier than in OTL, leading to massive butterfly affects that ripple outward from East Asia and over the course of over 700 years. It's been an epically huge project. Not only will it be confined to text, but I'm also working on several illustration books, graphic novels and if I can learn the skills, a possible animated TH-cam series 🙏🏾 🙏🏾

I understand that it may be hard to distinguish between chinese and japanese pictures, but I just would like to point out that 2/3 of the pictures used in the video are chinese. I appologise if that was intensinal, but it would have been better if appuropriate pictures had been used in the right contexts. By the way, if you wanted to learn the real life of a low level samurai, I would suggest the film called "Tasogare Seibei:たそがれ清兵衛". This film is about a life of a poor sumurai who lived around the time of between Edo and Meiji. The struggle he has during the significant change of power of Japan is something to see if you are intrested in samurai espacially unwealthy ones. P.S. I just checked that the film is called The Twilight Samurai in English.

Bushido as a "rough" set of concepts was philosophized on during the early to mid Edo period, where you had "Back in my day" crusty old samurai like Musashi and co idealizing the Sengoku period with books like the Hagakure and the Dokkodo. Like many codes of honor, for example, European Chivalry, it started more an unwritten social codes of conduct loosely followed and became progressively more documented, mythologized, and strictly adhered to as it warped to fit the needs of the people for that particular age. Zen had been around since the mid 600's as the religion of the japanese ruling class, and Bushido is really a sort of twisted extrapolation of Zen to make a code of conduct for warfare. I'm not an expert, but it's my understanding that some of the rough social mores very loosely associated with Bushido may have had roots as far back as the Heian and Genpei War, though overall they were not a priority compared to say, surviving, and really only governed interactions between the ruling class.
People think being a Samurai would be cool. Being a Samurai especially a low ranking Samurai was a hard life. Samurai longed for war and to die in battle. If you upset the Shogan or anyone that was higher rank could call you to commit Seppuku. Also disease broke out through the time period and you could die.
For my time travel trip to Kamakura Japan, I traded in my DeLorean car time machine for a Honda car time machine because I thought it was the CIVIC thing to do. 😜

But in any case, you should go fight a professional featherweight boxer if you think your superior mass alone can help you defend yourself against someone with actual martial-arts training. Trust me: unless you also have training, it won’t go well for you. And this is not even mentioning how you would be one dude on an island with tens of thousands of actual samurai who can and will take you down as a unit if needed. So nah.
People in the past era might be smaller and thinner but they were much much stronger than modern people who spend daily life sitting or laying on the bed.

Growing up in Texas, all I learned was the last ~300 years of history, yet there's so much more that happened in the world before that. Learning about more ancient cultures with centuries upon centuries of history is so much more eye opening and interesting! US history is terribly boring comparatively. (If you could even call the Texas textbooks 'history')
