Yes, to simply compete with PSU, other teams will have to recruit and develop wrestlers as well or better than PSU. But to actually beat them, they will have to do that one thing that coach Cael has a magic touch for, and which no other coach seems to possess to the same degree...which is the ability to see the difference in the potential of similarly positioned wrestlers. Coach Cael can look at 5 guys with nearly identical resumes in highly competitive states and see which one or two have the most potential to grow and develop. He can even look at a wrestler with a so-so record and only one state title and tell if he has the potential to become an NCAA champion. This is what he did with Anthony Cassar, who beat Gable twice enroute to his one and only natty. It's possible he's taught this magic to the magic man. If so, I can't wait to see what DT does in OkieSt in the next decade.

OSU and DT is probably the only program that can produce the sauce to even compete with PSU. The last time they lost, it was because Michigan had more depth throughout the whole lineup. That said, PSU has the depth to keep this dynasty going for atleast another few yeards.

Exceptional recruiting and head coaching. I don't see it happening. They have gobs of studs waiting in the pipeline. They could make a competitive team at the Big 10 or even NCAAs with backups. It's too bad Spencer didn't go there, because there are problems at Iowa on and off the mat.

I think money has the biggest potential for influence. Imagine if David Taylor had the resources to fund way more NIL contracts and outbid all other schools for top recruits/transfers

Start the match while they are still in transit. Make sure that over half the weights have been decided by fft before PSU gets in the building. Otherwise, they will probably still beat you.

WIth the current stable of horses, and Cael at the helm, no one is beating PSU for the next 2-3 years (at least). In my opinion, the next team to win a D1 title (beside PSU) is OK State. DT knows that it's all about recruiting the right stars out of HS and working the transfer portal. If DT can have early success at OK State, and I think he will, he will start attracting the best talent in the country within the next few years. That's when it will start getting interesting. A guy like Bo Bassett (if he reaches his full potential in college) can do for OK State what guys like Taylor and Ruth did for PSU. All it takes is one or two superstars for Okie State to start making this a two horse race. Write it down, boys. You heard it here first.

I’m so sick of Cornell being left out the mix bro. Not this season since they’re losing a LOT of firepower. But next 2 years they get Knox, Vega, Joy, while already having Shapiro and keeping Ungar, who’s solid.

@@xzjayz7925 Maybe you should throw in App State and Buffalo while you're at it. Seriously? This discussion is about who can beat Penn State. The next team title, other than to PSU, is going to either: OK State (my pick), OH State, Iowa or NC State. Cornell has ZERO chance at a team title. Zero.

@@joep5146 ah yes the team that’s beaten out EVERY single team besides penn state this year for a team title has no chance. Seriously delusional.
Edit: like seriously!? Crazy. Even trying to remotely compared App State or Buffalo to Cornell. Like have you been under a rock the last two NCAA championships I’m confused? Where did Ohio state place again? What about NC State who were a let down at nationals, are you good brother or do you just dislike Cornell?

@@xzjayz7925 Put down the crackpipe, my friend. Cornell finished 100 points behind PSU and had one national champ, Vito "Dirty" Arujau, who head-butted his way to victory. I stand by my original opinion. OK State has the best chance of winning the team title other than PSU, but it won't happen for at least 2-3 years. There's a better chance that Cornell will host a pro-Trump rally than win a national title.

They need to end the transfer portal plain and simple if you want to transfer you lose a year of eligibility

    • @xzjayz7925

Nah, I think it should be situational. If a school drops a program then you’re shit out of luck huh? That’s stupid. I think if you got beat out for the spot and prob wouldn’t start again then I guess that’d also warrant a transfer. But 🤷🏽‍♂️

if david taylor doesnt have the same effect at OSU that Cael has then nobody is beating PSU until Cael retires and still even that will take another 2-3 years after he leaves

I think the closest to them currently is Ohio State. They have had some great recruiting classes recently. Ok St and DT are coming. Give them 2-3 years. Next years transfer portal could be very interesting. Love what DT brings and feel he will be great coach.

Penn St fan’s perspective. Here is the problem: Most Schools will not put the resources into wrestling needed to catch Penn St. Let me use an example: Last year, Iowa St announced a plan to build a $10m wrestling facility. This year they canceled it. Why? $. The same ISU that had both Cael Sanderson and Dan Gable and let them go. Why? You guessed it $.

In my idiot opinion, the Penn State secret sauce is adjustments. There are a million different scenarios wherein a Penn State dude will take 3rd or 5th or whatever at Big Tens, Cael will sprinkle a little fairy dust and make some tiny adjustments here and there, and that dude goes on to win NCAAs two weeks later. ADS was 2-0 against RBY and had majored him. Cael made some adjustments, and RBY never lost to him again

Roman Bravo-Young. Went from 8 place finish to a natty champ all within a year.
Levi Haines. Had noticeable issues during regular seasons BOTH freshman and sophomore year and slowly sharpened and developed. Bonuses everyone post season besides Teemer.
Greg Kert. He noticeably got better each and every season. Also Gable left.
NICK LEE. Ummm…. Hopefully shouldn’t need to explain this one.
BEAU BARTLETT. Do I… seriously have to explain this one?
Shane Van-Ness. Had some stupid loses freshman year, then look what he did at nationals. A simple jump from redshirt freshman year to sophomore year.
Mitchell Mesenbrink has only gotten better since going to Penn State.
Buddy this is even noticeable through the back ups and 3rd string guys….??? Literally just last season they had their back up 157 pounder competing against Michigan’s 174 pounder in Shane Griffith a NCAA champion. They had their back up 197 pounder bump up to HWT since Greg was sick to take out #13 or a top 10 wrestler from I believe Rutgers? What are you even on about?
Do I continue or r you going to stop looking stupid? One thing you just cannot deny is Cael’s ability to develop his wrestlers and game plan for NCAAs.
I’ll edit this if I forgot anyone just to keep proving that silly statement wrong.
