Hi. I got older Husquarna and guess what? First cut and it started to make clunky/knocking noises here and there accompanied by light colored smoke it was only a few seconds. Noise stopped, smoke cleared immediately. After a minute it repeated and died. Any advice as to what it could be?
I have the exact same mower with over 1000 hours also, recently had the same ploblem minus the missing push rod but found it broken in two(lucky was still there) and the other bent. I think the culprit for my issue started with overheating caused by mice nesting and I didn't catch in time. I also did find the valve guide slid out of place pressed it back in and peened it(I know its just a temporary fix). I've mowed for about 6 hours so far, and still good. Hoping will get me through the Summer. I just started watching your videos a few days ago, and love everything you've been sharing with us. Thank you.
Great tips. Just use a temp gun to stop from burning yourself. Lot of times I don’t care about the percentage of loss. I made a single gauge hose and listen. Simple locator to find problems. Sometimes it can sound worse than it is. Where knowing the percentage helps.
I'm off topic of this video...but ive got a 26hp intec with a warped intake. Can't seem to find the correct part number. Model number sticker is gone. Any ideas for what intake I need?
I was selling a rider to local guy who "Badly needed a mower now". Since i needed a day or two to finish the refurbishing before the sale, i loaned him an identical one. He was happy because his lawn was so long and out of control. The one i loaned him was just refurbished new blades, ect, ect. Well, i got it back and he said the mower wasn't what he expected so then he didnt want the other one. He went from needing a "Budget" mower to going and buying a JD 700 SERIES. Anyways the mower i lent him came back with a huge chip out of a blade and one deck hanger gone.🤔 went to his house to ask about it, of course he knew nothing about it. Yet i noticed several rebar looking poles sticking out around his property. Well, i no longer am "Mister Nice Guy" that loans out stuff. Lesson learned.😡😠
That sounds about right! I have them tell me all the time they are not sure what happened, and I get it back with new blades only to see them so badly chipped they look years old. I have to inform them, unfortunately, that something was indeed hit and there will be a charge. You really do marry a mower when you work on it, the customer thinks anyway. I respect you not loaning mowers and I usually do not but figured with one not too much into it may work out ok. I hope so!
No, from what I figure there is low risk of it interfering in engine operations unless mowing super steep areas? I may do it later when we have adequate time but for now loaner it is. Sent it with one of my smaller commercial guys the day it happened when his was down
Taryl Fixes All made a video about this and said that it's ok to leave the old pushrod at the bottom if it runs okay with the new one. I think he shows how there's not a lot of stuff it could interfere with at the bottom. Very good video nonetheless take care
I have a cracked vertebrae between my L5-S1 causing Spondylolisthesis. They told me 15 years ago to get surgery or be in constant pain. Today only usually goes out a couple times a year and pain is manageable without narcotics so I say phoey what do they know. I should just wear the brace more often but I'm stubborn
So the poulan pro i worked on was the same as that one it just had a Kohler 20 hp engine her engines cooling fins need cleaned off and her decks engagement pulley bracket is about to snap off it needs welded before it does but i didn't wanna weld it. Id put the money in it if it was mine thats cheaper than buy another engine
I've never seen air blown in before, I saw a vacuum gauge installed in the spark plug opening and the engine manually spin then watch for vacuum drop, with valves closed.
You might would wanna check an see if your decks engagement pulley bracket is cracked it could be sense thats the same poulan pro mower that i worked on so once that womans breaks no one will be mowing nothing it puts tension on the deck belt
The diagnostic ability exhibited in this video was excellent. Outstanding.
I appreciate that and you watching!

I would first check the oil level and see if it smells like fuel then see if it will start if using starting fluid

Awesome! Sometimes they last forever even after an issue like this!
Its amazing you can hear all that air loss and still only be at 5% leak down as you had here.
Definitely! Sometimes seems like a huge amount when really it's just because of the high pressure
Good stuff, Martin! I envy your trained ear!
Thank you!
Thanks again for another great video 📹. I Love watching your videos
Thanks for that. We appreciate you watching!

It sounds like a lot escaping sometimes and is hardly anything for sure! A single gauge checker is something I have never seen but great idea
@@IndRepairhome made. Regulator and hoses. I even use it on saws and trimmers.
Home made or custom tools are the way to go! Make it work like you want

amzn.to/3yEXv0p will have 595606 which is the one for the setup in this video it is the same with or without an auxiliary choke

So you did not go hunting for the exhaust push rod? Good diagnostic video. thanks.

Hope your back is doing well. How do you like the spark testr? Is it reliable? Can you use in limited space like a chainsaw?
It is doing great now, thank you! The Spark Check'r is awesome, especially in limited space. There is rarely a thing we can't use it easily on

Thanks for that, I will have to check it out. That was my take, unless mowing steep hills wouldn't think anything would pull it off the bottom
What happened to your back. Great video as always. Thx!

👍
are all Briggs and Stratton push rods the same size?
No, they have many different sizes

Definitely worth doing, just finding time to do it that is the problem this time of year. Thanks for watching

Just a leakdown tester, we use them quite a bit for small engines

This has an electric PTO so no engagement bracket but we see it a lot
Infrared temperature gun
Most won't have something like this but ours definitely comes in handy
And that's the advantage of being a mower mechanic.
It has its perks!
Spray water on pipes, if hot it will steam.
People are smart, kudos to you for this super easy way of doing things 👏
