Me too but in a week I'm finally able to get my first new smartphone ever whuch is the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus in the Lilac Purple color. The S5 really held out long for me though. It's a tough phone.
Iphone users say this is not an upgrade to the s4, but when you look at iphones they have never really upgraded that much either, the only upgrade with the 4s from the 4 was siri and io6. the upgrade with the 5 from the 4s was ONLY a larger screen. The upgrade with the 5s from the 5 was ONLY a fingerprint scanner and ios7 and the update with the 6 and 6plus is only a larger screen and ios8. the only other thing apple has done is SLIGHTLY improve their already paper light phone, their already great camera, their already thin phone and their terrible battery life

nop, many better alternatives depending on your budget, and marshmallow made the phone feel slower after awhile of using it, i sold mine about a month ago, i used mine from October 2014 until august 2016😂😂
After 2 years of use S5 with android 6.0.1 works fast, i didn't changed the battery and didn't haved any problem with it, all sensors works, a very great phone!

Especially "sealing" the phone against moisture damage. Those who have had replacement phones disallowed by Sprint service because of "some corrosion" will appreciate this feature. Have ordered a silicone clear cover. Have also ordered extra batteries and charger although battery life has been sufficient so far.
Help! My Galaxy S4's LCD broke last week. I can either spend $200 to get it fixed or spend $200 to get the new S5. Watching these videos, I'm not a huge fan of the S5...there don't seem to be many improvements and I really love the S4. Should I just get my S4's LCD screen fixed?
it really REALLY depends in the new features and if you will use them. The benefits i see is that the build is more robust and its not made of cheap glossy plastic. IP certification, a faster processor and i've heard that this display is the best on the market right now. Also the camera has been vastly improved. And maybe you get more colors to choose from haha, i'm really digging the blue one
I would wait. I just don't think this years new flag ship phones that are coming out are that big of a difference from last year flag ship phones. I mean if you upgrade and are stuck in a contract for two more years, you want the difference between your new and old phone to be a big difference that you can feel and see. I can see there possibly being a big difference between the s4 and note 4 when it comes out. I just don't see that difference in any phone out now. If you had a s3 and were talking about upgrading I would say yes go for it. The s4, I just don't see it. That's my opinion. I would suggest you go to the store and play with the phones your are considering and see if there is a big difference from the phone your currently own.
I remember using mine for two years with exceptional battery life, and then about a year of poor battery. My battery might have been fried, but I couldn't get more than 1-3 hours of usage out of my phone. I eventually upgraded to the S8+ and now I use the Note 10 plus. I still remember the s5 fondly though, despite the whole battery issue I had.

I have the S3 and I'm still debating whether to upgrade to the S5 or a different phone all together. I don't necessarily like the design of the S5, but it'll be a better upgrade compared to my S3~
Take a look at the HTC One M8 or the Sony Xperia Z2. I've only had a Note 2 but I've found Samsung's UI a little tacky and seems to be designed as a bridge from Apple to Android.
Design wise, the others are just about same, if not, worse than S5. Might as well get an S5 for it's enriching features/specs or wait for Nexus 5 (2014).

***** Does design include back-removal? If so, the S5 wins because there is a micro SD slot and a removable battery. If not, yes, an Iphone is well built and i like alluminium, but that advantages is wiped out as soon as you put a case around it.
Can we just take a minute and acknowledge the fact that this exists? It's just hitting me on how far we've come technology wise. And just think about what more is to come!! This is amazing to me.
I have the s7 and for some reason I miss my s5. I feel like it's better because the s7 is glass and metal and you constantly feel on edge (no pun intended) that your going to drop the s7 and Crack the glass and dent the metal. The s7 also feels heavier. The s5 just gives you that freedom and less worry. also with the s5 you get the ir blaster decent camera, although not as good as s7. The best feature is the removable battery, and still get gear support and heart rate sensor though not important. In my experience I see very little difference between the s5 and s7. little differences like themes, camera, and wireless charging. not to mention fast charge but if you put the s5 into ultra power save mode it charges faster anyway. My opinion on the s5, its a beautiful phone, an underrated phone and a highly criticized phone, I think it could have been better but the little features it has make it still a top phone in 2016. A phone that will last for years to come, swap out the battery when it gets weak and your good to go again. If your the simple man or woman that's looking for a phone that's simple and will last you for years to come, this phone is the phone to get.
Kayne Sporry my dad had the s5 i dont really notice the difference in weight. I never owned the s5 but ive changed from apple to samsung and i got the s7 edge, i must admit the edge can get annoying at times because when you type it sometimes gets caught on your finger. Sometimes i use 2 hands to type because its such a big phone, alottt bigger than my iphone 6
This is one of the best smartphones of the year 2014. I've been using this beast for at least 3 months now, and I got no complains. As a former iPhone user, I would like to say that the battery life on this product is great, as well as its operating system skin and the smoothness of use.
I just got mine and I love it! I was so bored with the iPhone. But the reviewer is right, there aren't a lot of differences between this and the previous version. I only got the S5 because it was my girlfriend's first smart phone and this is what she wanted!

Well i bought it in India so total cost was total $400 for all three things..do note i bought it in India.. :-D so telling you price in current exchange rate.. The Indian cost was Rs.25,000. And she liked it. specially the wireless charging thing :-D
i was bashing this phone of how dull and same old samsung .. until i went to best buy and saw it in person. i must say.. i was impressed. vivid bright phone.. very colorful and sturdy.. snappy maneuvering .. overall . i changed my mind. i like it a lot .. might get one .. stll this woud be my 3rd samsung phone.. ehh.. its time to move on

Go buy for s5. Great camera also has water resistant, and micro sd card expansion while the S6 does not have it. But the camera in s5 is a little bit the same in s6 but has better front camera 5MP in s6 with more Low Light performance and 2MP only in S5..
Well, unfortunately I don't see myself running out to the store to buy this phone. I am pretty satisfied with my S4. The minor changes don't interest me and the Magazine thing I have no use for.

Android Authority, I dig your channel. I look for a few things in a channel. One, is the person "clearly" understood and heard. You speak very clear and the quality is great. thomas klein I switched back to my iphone 4s for quite a few reasons. While the rear camera is awesome, the front camera sucks it distorts your head if it it not center of the screen. In low light situations the camera lags in every app. The keyboard lay out makes me want to cut my fingers off. And the extra inch of screen makes me want to reattach my fingers with an extra inch to utilize it with one hand. Yeah it has the one handed mode but what is the point if the screen is downsized to accommodate it. I love the android os but the s5 sucks in my honest opinion. Im am in the market for something new and this isnt it. That girl working at target is correct on the return rate because I was one of them.
I watch videos and read all day from my phone as well. Iphone sucks unless its jailbroken my 4s is jailbroken the iphone 5s cant be jailbroken with the current ios. Which is the reason I figured I would try android My other gripe about the s5 is the speaker it is terrible. My iphone 4s over powers this thing anyday. I prefer my jaikbroken 4s over the samsung s5. If the screen was smaller and the speaker and camera issuse were fixed I would be happy other than that its like having a lifted truck they are pretty but at the same time not practical.

I realise this is an old review, but you sure seem so biased against Samsung and Touch Whiz. Some of us like Touch Whiz and quite frankly, vanilla Android is a plain featureless load of crape by comparison. That's my bias. The S5 is an amazing phone and you did not portray it in your video. You didn't even mention how fast the autofocus is.
americanliberal09 so many videos are added daily to TH-cam that a 6 month old video can be considered old, now. Most people comment on videos when they first come out; I commented 6 months later LOL. The S5 is an amazing phone and biased reviewers praise their little favourites and play down brilliant phones which they don't happen to like (e.g. Samsung phones get played down all the time).
I bought my Galaxy S5 almost 4 years ago, and I still have it with me. I loved it since the first day I bought it. I did wanted the Blue version but my phone carrier didn't have it. So I ended up getting the Black version. I bought it on July 2014, and then on 2015 I upgraded to the iPhone 6, but still continue to have my Galaxy S5 with me. Roght now I'm using my Galaxy S5 with Wi-Fi....

and is touchwiz worth it too? also you pay for cheap tech like heartsensor and fingerprint sensor that doesn't work properly. Camera on M8 isn't poor but not as good. In low light the M8 will still beat S5 so have fun with your ugly Touchwiz and dark pictures in low light like indoors. The camera is the ONLY thing that beats M8 and that is not by far.
Leon The M8 is the most unimproved follow up of a great predecessor. What did they make better with the m8 that they didn't have with the m7? I have the m7 and the s4. The s4 with kit kat is flawless. Cheap tech?? How do you know it's cheap?! Do u have the s5? The heart sensor is genius. Especially in America where over 50% of the nation is unhealthy. We need something to keep track of our health. And what better to put it on than a smartphone? The object we use daily no matter what. If you want to see your heartbeat to motivate you eat and train... there is an app for that!! EVERY smartphone got an app doing the EXACT same thing! No need to have it build in. Software. The software is so clunky and has many useless things in it and even with the high specs, it keeps the phone from performing at the best it can. If they could keep the most used features with a almost stock version of android I'd definitely go for that.

***** The only time you really need an upgrade is when they stop updating Android for that phone. I have the first XOOM tablet and it is still being updated. And most of the updates for these phones and tablets are nothing but software that could have been download. Very rarely (other than the camera) is there any real hardware advancements. Out of all the products out there, you are paying premium price for the same thing with a slightly different look and a bunch of software features that the average person isn't going to use on a regular basis. If anything, they are milking consumers.

After my experience with their customer service I would recommend you research other cell phone options. So about a month ago the fingerprint software in my Galaxy S5 stops working, every time I attempt to go into the settings it gives me an error telling me to either try again or reboot the phone. So I attempted this multiple times with no luck. So last night I had some free time and decided to log on to Samsung’s page for support. I spoke to a support rep named Susanna, who was very curt and impatient. She remoted into my system and attempted many fixes, I would say I was on with her for a couple of hours. In the end we wiped the phone clean and started with a clean slate. I was still getting the same error. So she said she would send me a box to drop it in (2 days) then I could send it back to them (2 days) 5 -7days to fix the phone and then another 2 days to ship it back. So close to 2 weeks without a phone, that mind you is still under factory warranty. So needless to say I started posting on social media, and eventually someone named Anna contacted me the next day. I expressed my concern about going without a phone for almost 2 weeks. Initially it sounded like she was going to provide a loner phone during this time based on the questions she was asking me. However, all she wanted to do was have me try some of the same trouble shooting techniques the previous support rep did. Once I figured this out I started getting frustrated. I told her I was done trouble shooting and her answer was par for the course. Here is what she said "Upon checking Brian, Factory reset was done on the phone. The best option we can offer is to continue sending the phone in for proper evaluation and have the phone fix. We can upgrade your shipping to overnight going to and from the Samsung repair center. Would you like to proceed? ^Anna” So basically I am without a phone during the time it is being shipped to and from, as well during the repair process. Mind you, I am continuing to pay for my cell service. At the very least I would expect a loner phone to be sent along with a prepaid shipping package I could use to send back a defective Samsung product. Samsung needs to make this right if they ever expect to see me as a customer for any of their products in the future. I am so disappointed in a company and phone I did nothing but brag about, and even persuaded a couple of iPhone user to jump ship. I hope you can make this right before someone else does, because if you do not I will never buy another product from you again.

3165dwayne Well despite a list of complaints you've listed, I've no complaints with my Z. Everyone phone will have it's issues, but I've personally never had so many issues till I had my s2. Both my wife and I had issues very early on with it, now both my wife and I use the Z. No issues so far within the same time frame of the S2, which failed to last the 2 years. It runs everything I throw at it without fault, and it's never randomly shut down as my Galaxy did. In fact the Galaxy shut down on it's own so many times it pretty much useless! I had to use old basic phones for the remaining 6 months of my contract when it finally died, I was actually happy because I didn't have an excuse to mess with it anymore. Regardless of what others say. I'm perfectly happy with my Sony, it's an impressive device and I'll never go back to Samsung.

Blah blah blah I had a iPhone for 5 year's..its never anything different with them never any major changes. Samsung been killing apple since the galaxy s3 and I currently have the s4. Also apple is not that much more expensive than android and if anything apple users are getting ripped off because for a cheaper price you can do ALOT more on your Galaxy or any android phone than what you can do on a apple product!!! 😂😂😂

the fingerprint reader is good its too good thats why it fails, otherwise the screen and the camera is pretty good. Im new to android just coming from iOS

Their phones have gotten a LOT faster than they were from the iphone 3 days. I used to have a 3 and then a 6 and it is so much faster.

I would wait. I just don't think this years new flag ship phones that are coming out are that big of a difference from last year flag ship phones. I mean if you upgrade and are stuck in a contract for two more years, you want the difference between your new and old phone to be a big difference that you can feel and see. I can see there possibly being a big difference between the s4 and note 4 when it comes out. I just don't see that difference in any phone out now. If you had a s3 and were talking about upgrading I would say yes go for it. The s4, I just don't see it. That's my opinion. I would suggest you go to the store and play with the phones your are considering and see if there is a big difference from the phone your currently own.

I remember using mine for two years with exceptional battery life, and then about a year of poor battery. My battery might have been fried, but I couldn't get more than 1-3 hours of usage out of my phone. I eventually upgraded to the S8+ and now I use the Note 10 plus. I still remember the s5 fondly though, despite the whole battery issue I had.

I have the S3 and I'm still debating whether to upgrade to the S5 or a different phone all together. I don't necessarily like the design of the S5, but it'll be a better upgrade compared to my S3~

Take a look at the HTC One M8 or the Sony Xperia Z2. I've only had a Note 2 but I've found Samsung's UI a little tacky and seems to be designed as a bridge from Apple to Android.

Can we just take a minute and acknowledge the fact that this exists? It's just hitting me on how far we've come technology wise. And just think about what more is to come!! This is amazing to me.
I have the s7 and for some reason I miss my s5. I feel like it's better because the s7 is glass and metal and you constantly feel on edge (no pun intended) that your going to drop the s7 and Crack the glass and dent the metal. The s7 also feels heavier. The s5 just gives you that freedom and less worry. also with the s5 you get the ir blaster decent camera, although not as good as s7. The best feature is the removable battery, and still get gear support and heart rate sensor though not important. In my experience I see very little difference between the s5 and s7. little differences like themes, camera, and wireless charging. not to mention fast charge but if you put the s5 into ultra power save mode it charges faster anyway. My opinion on the s5, its a beautiful phone, an underrated phone and a highly criticized phone, I think it could have been better but the little features it has make it still a top phone in 2016. A phone that will last for years to come, swap out the battery when it gets weak and your good to go again. If your the simple man or woman that's looking for a phone that's simple and will last you for years to come, this phone is the phone to get.

I never owned the s5 but ive changed from apple to samsung and i got the s7 edge, i must admit the edge can get annoying at times because when you type it sometimes gets caught on your finger. Sometimes i use 2 hands to type because its such a big phone, alottt bigger than my iphone 6

Go buy for s5. Great camera also has water resistant, and micro sd card expansion while the S6 does not have it. But the camera in s5 is a little bit the same in s6 but has better front camera 5MP in s6 with more Low Light performance and 2MP only in S5..

thomas klein I switched back to my iphone 4s for quite a few reasons. While the rear camera is awesome, the front camera sucks it distorts your head if it it not center of the screen. In low light situations the camera lags in every app. The keyboard lay out makes me want to cut my fingers off. And the extra inch of screen makes me want to reattach my fingers with an extra inch to utilize it with one hand. Yeah it has the one handed mode but what is the point if the screen is downsized to accommodate it. I love the android os but the s5 sucks in my honest opinion. Im am in the market for something new and this isnt it. That girl working at target is correct on the return rate because I was one of them.
I watch videos and read all day from my phone as well. Iphone sucks unless its jailbroken my 4s is jailbroken the iphone 5s cant be jailbroken with the current ios. Which is the reason I figured I would try android My other gripe about the s5 is the speaker it is terrible. My iphone 4s over powers this thing anyday. I prefer my jaikbroken 4s over the samsung s5. If the screen was smaller and the speaker and camera issuse were fixed I would be happy other than that its like having a lifted truck they are pretty but at the same time not practical.

I realise this is an old review, but you sure seem so biased against Samsung and Touch Whiz. Some of us like Touch Whiz and quite frankly, vanilla Android is a plain featureless load of crape by comparison. That's my bias.

and is touchwiz worth it too? also you pay for cheap tech like heartsensor and fingerprint sensor that doesn't work properly. Camera on M8 isn't poor but not as good. Software. The software is so clunky and has many useless things in it and even with the high specs, it keeps the phone from performing at the best it can. If they could keep the most used features with a almost stock version of android I'd definitely go for that.

And most of the updates for these phones and tablets are nothing but software that could have been download. Very rarely (other than the camera) is there any real hardware advancements. Out of all the products out there, you are paying premium price for the same thing with a slightly different look and a bunch of software features that the average person isn't going to use on a regular basis. If anything, they are milking consumers.

After my experience with their customer service I would recommend you research other cell phone options.
So about a month ago the fingerprint software in my Galaxy S5 stops working, every time I attempt to go into the settings it gives me an error telling me to either try again or reboot the phone. So I attempted this multiple times with no luck. So last night I had some free time and decided to log on to Samsung’s page for support. I spoke to a support rep named Susanna, who was very curt and impatient. She remoted into my system and attempted many fixes, I would say I was on with her for a couple of hours. In the end we wiped the phone clean and started with a clean slate. I was still getting the same error. So she said she would send me a box to drop it in (2 days) then I could send it back to them (2 days) 5 -7days to fix the phone and then another 2 days to ship it back. So close to 2 weeks without a phone, that mind you is still under factory warranty. So needless to say I started posting on social media, and eventually someone named Anna contacted me the next day. I expressed my concern about going without a phone for almost 2 weeks. Initially it sounded like she was going to provide a loner phone during this time based on the questions she was asking me. However, all she wanted to do was have me try some of the same trouble shooting techniques the previous support rep did. Once I figured this out I started getting frustrated. I told her I was done trouble shooting and her answer was par for the course. Here is what she said "Upon checking Brian, Factory reset was done on the phone. The best option we can offer is to continue sending the phone in for proper evaluation and have the phone fix. We can upgrade your shipping to overnight going to and from the Samsung repair center. Would you like to proceed? ^Anna” So basically I am without a phone during the time it is being shipped to and from, as well during the repair process. Mind you, I am continuing to pay for my cell service. At the very least I would expect a loner phone to be sent along with a prepaid shipping package I could use to send back a defective Samsung product. Samsung needs to make this right if they ever expect to see me as a customer for any of their products in the future. I am so disappointed in a company and phone I did nothing but brag about, and even persuaded a couple of iPhone user to jump ship.
I hope you can make this right before someone else does, because if you do not I will never buy another product from you again.

Well despite a list of complaints you've listed, I've no complaints with my Z. Everyone phone will have it's issues, but I've personally never had so many issues till I had my s2. Both my wife and I had issues very early on with it, now both my wife and I use the Z.
No issues so far within the same time frame of the S2, which failed to last the 2 years. It runs everything I throw at it without fault, and it's never randomly shut down as my Galaxy did. In fact the Galaxy shut down on it's own so many times it pretty much useless! I had to use old basic phones for the remaining 6 months of my contract when it finally died, I was actually happy because I didn't have an excuse to mess with it anymore. Regardless of what others say. I'm perfectly happy with my Sony, it's an impressive device and I'll never go back to Samsung.

Blah blah blah I had a iPhone for 5 year's..its never anything different with them never any major changes. Samsung been killing apple since the galaxy s3 and I currently have the s4. Also apple is not that much more expensive than android and if anything apple users are getting ripped off because for a cheaper price you can do ALOT more on your Galaxy or any android phone than what you can do on a apple product!!! 😂😂😂
