Mark E Smith probably wouldn't want anyone to remember him but it's in precious moments like these that we do. You are very loved and very missed. Rest in peace you miserable old sod!
As a massive Fall fan, this one is so special. Mark actually sings here and it is blissful. So lucky to have had them in my life. I'm 58. Saw them live in 1988 and it was the greatest time of my life. For over 40 years the Fall have made me wonder at the wonder of all the wonder. "Got pasted in a bar."
dunbustin My comment was not an interpretation. This expression of joy makes me feel better when I'm down. I have other subjective opinions if you'd like to point-blank negate those too?... (rhetorical).
So much so. And I need it right now. I WOULD say the world needs it, but it's rather too personal a song for that. It' a song to comfort individuals; not nations. It's a song to comfort you and me.
This song is an absolute gem. It's beautiful and should have been a top 10 hit. Thanks for your career Mark. You gave it your all and will never be forgotten.
Extricate will I think always be my favourite Fall album, so many memories with this song, we played the Fall for five hours solid today at Fopp in Covent Garden and I loved every minute.
Yes it is one on my favourite albums, I managed to see them in Sydney in mid 1990 around the time it came out and was blown away by how miserable and great he was.
I agree. Got it on cassette in Kings Road Chelsea. Straight in the walkman and an incredible journey started. Kind of wish he stopped a bit earlier. And do what?
that feeling when cynics grin at hope, when colours are a bit brighter, because someone else just IS, exists, whatever, - I think they bring us to our knees far more than when somone is yelling on the pop charts about how hot their lover is. This is the best articulation of that very specific feeling that I've ever come across and I'm grinning this cold morning. Just lately, seeing you...
Only MES would write his heart out to a tune that would make the world whistle n call it 'Bill is Dead' ... Bless yr Naked Lunch, yr legs are so cool ...
I'm crying right now. RIP to the heart and soul of a warrior who dedicated his life to the arts, to being different yet remaining the same. See ya mate!
My death is cancelled until further notice. However when I do decide, I would like this to played, just to emphasise what has happened. Thank you Mark E Smith.
My fav Fall song. I saw The Fall on tour when this came out. My Mate and I went to the Vine Hotel, Richmond, Melbourne before the gig for a few beers and found ourselves at a table next to Mark E Smith and the bands the guitarist whom he proceed to fire during a heated pub argument. Suffice to say the gig was suitably tense and bloody brilliant. Mark knows how to get the best out of his band - miserable bastard that he is!
Wow. Can't believe you got to sit next to Mark E. Smith in the pub - his natural habitat - and see him and his guitarist have a fight. Wish I'd been there. You're lucky to have seen them on tour, too.
@@elizabethhann4028 On the other hand: viewing the timeline of The Fall members one could argue that 60 % of the world's population has at least once sat at the table next to MS when he fired a member. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_the_Fall_band_members#Timeline
"...No please don't touch those harps they took ages to tune.... Hey, those clouds have been carefully arranged that way! Excuse me, you can't just take a halo and throw it like a frisbee .....oh no, not my pipe organ ...." - God.
How i love The Fall...even now, nearly 50 years later. Mark E. Smith ploughed his own furrow in such a brilliantly creative way. I will never tire of listening to songs like this!
creativity is hard work, and if you take that path you have to decide how far you are going down it MES wasn't stopping, I love some of the output, but I guess I wouldn't recommend the route. love spud
I like this. I like the Fall. I will not get too excited though..... I'll be at 78th Fall gig in May. Always great. Always different. There is always The Fall.
Fall face forever. This track ALMOST makes us cry. We probably aren't supposed to according to General Mark! Salute! Rest in peace fellow artist and alcoholic🙏 You are sorely missed as I believe John Peele put it 🌟
"One day "the series just reminded me of one of the best songs of the 80s
Me too ❤
Me too. Just brought back such memories from back in the day...
1990

One Day

Great to know Mark can knock out a fantastic pop ballad if he feels like it. One of my fave Fall trax. Reflective, superlative.
One of the most beautiful songs ever written. RIP Mark. A wayward, uncompromising, wonderful genius.
yeah,beautiful
One of the best songs ever written. Tragic, elagiac brilliance
This song is like a long, comforting hug when you're feeling like shit..
No it is not. It is an expression of joy when everything is perfect.
dunbustin My comment was not an interpretation. This expression of joy makes me feel better when I'm down. I have other subjective opinions if you'd like to point-blank negate those too?... (rhetorical).
Yeah. You play it, and you remember that there's still love and tenderness in the world, and even a mean old reprobate like Mark E. Smith can feel it.
So much so. And I need it right now. I WOULD say the world needs it, but it's rather too personal a song for that. It' a song to comfort individuals; not nations. It's a song to comfort you and me.

He would've hated every minute. Southern fairy.
Extricate is my fave as well, for many reasons, and balls to certain Northern types who think they own The Fall!
@@byrontonks1314 who is the southern Fairy mate???

Great comment. ❤
I second that.
Yeah
Nailed it.
aye
What a great song. I remember it from college. It makes me feel fuzzy, nostalgic, and dark.
Only MES would write his heart out to a tune that would make the world whistle n call it 'Bill is Dead' ... Bless yr Naked Lunch, yr legs are so cool ...
Always brings a tear. The sheer brilliance of MES in the clearest possible light.
Happy 2024.
This still sounds amazing.
RIP Mark.... thanks for all the good times....

I think i have to agree, a truly inspired song both musically and lyrically
One of the best songs ever written. RIP M.E.S a true legend.
"Freezing, Wheezing, got pasted in a bar" That resonates so much, memories of drinking in Manchester in my 20s!
this is the greatest times of my life. the fall rules forever. I love this song

Without a doubt one of The Fall’s best songs and their most beautiful I reckon.
It is indeed one of their best - tied with Birthday Song for their most beautiful, since you're asking.
RIP big man. These are the finest times of my life
Farewell my friend. Never change but never stay the same.
🎶🥴👍🏻💞
I'd say RIP, but I think it would bore him. Mark was never one to go for rest or peace. I'm going to miss him!
Mark washing his hand at the start. An example to us all.
Came twice; you thrice. Wash your hands for 40 seconds; potentially 60. Scenes.
I like the sniffing and rubbing the nose coming out of the toilets, wonder what you're doing there Mark?
"Look at me, too much sp-speed"
🎶🥴💞
Ha ha
Doubt he'd have been a covid hysteric though

Oh absolutely. It's their only really sweet and tender song; and it's gorgeous. Of course it should have been a hit.
cosmicdrifter287 The Fall should've been a massive hit
They never released it as a single. This video was purely done for Snub TV - a BBC2 show. Peel himself expressed surprise that it topped his 50.

This is good stuff! I think the lowest album from The Fall is probably Bend Sinister, and even that is enjoyable.
Lowest? That's a great album, us 80s 90s etc
