Thank you so much for making this video! I just stumbled across this and am passing this along - this is a perfect and very thorough walkthrough of the differences between the 1st Edition (AU) and the new edition (USA) versions of the deck! Hehe, it's funny to see what had to be changed to suit the US bookstores and a wider audience. Both are great decks and I agree with you - it's worth having both if you are a completist/collector (I also have the Japanese version - too cool!)
Interesting. I didn't know that there could be this big of a difference in cards between two countries. I'm dutch and our version is the same as the Australian edition. While the closeup are nice, I think it removes some of the details in the orginal card means as well as changing a darker theme to a much lighter one. But I see that a lot this days with other releases of things like games, comic, ect in the US. But even with the changes I would still love this deck to pieces. Thank you for the lovely video.
Glad👌🏻to see such a thorough🎠comparison. I have thee USA vsn & just purchased thee Australia vsn as well as the full colour hardcover 📖 Wisdom of the shadows & light book. Thanks 🙏 💀
You're very welcome MsMorningglory23 :) I like the close-ups of the US deck, but I also like the more raw feeling to the original aussie deck. So, glad I have both :) Still, both are wonderful decks to work with!
Thank you so much for this comparison. I think the one change I'm unhappy about is the different message of the Sewer Mermaid in the American version. In all other aspects I prefer the American version, so I'll see if I can find the message from the Australian guidebook online somehow, copy it out and put it between the pages of the American guidebook when I buy it.
Thank you so much for the review comparison! Looking at it, Im glad I got the american version! I was a bit worried though that I was missing out but I much prefer the one I have now! thanks again!
Hi NiniTVOnline, the Australian version of the Oracle of the Shapeshifters has already been out for about nine months, and is also readily available in the UK. When the US version comes out, I'll get that and do another comparative review ;) As I understand it, we may see another deck from Jasmine Becket-Griffith out this year in Oz version - a vampire oracle ;D
To be honest, I've used my US version a lot less than the original, so I can't personally comment on the how well the card stock holds up. Certainly, it feels flimsier to the touch, and I've also heard people complain about its wearing. However, I've also heard that it's hard to get hold of the original now, so it depends how much you want the deck...
:D Mine is tiny right now--I did just order the Dark Angels Tarot and the Oracle of the Dragonfae--do you have either? Also recently got D. Virtue's Romance Angels Oracle--the artwork is beautiful!
As you say, Carla, in this deck, the changes to the images are consistent and not at all bad. I think I was a bit less impressed with the changes to the book, but that probably matters less anyway :) Hope you enjoy it!
Interesting, I just bought the Australian version 2021, printed 2019 and the card stock is matte. Seems good and strong. But I am a tad disappointed that its not glossy card because I think the colours would pop more. But it is what it is. Does anyone have suggestions on a great tart deck to use in conjunction with this oracle?
🔮🃏✨ Yes, I got thee “Beautiful Creatures” Tarot by Jay R. Rivera✍🏻& Jasmine Beckett-Griffith🎨 to pair with mine. It has gorgeous purple gilded edges! 🤲🏻
I don't like the Dark Angels as much as I had hoped, but it's a decent deck. The Oracle of the Dragonfae is a bit hit and miss, as the artwork is by different artists. Still, some of the cards are amazing, and Lucy Cavendish's companion book is good. I haven't go the Romance Angels - will have to take a look :)
I've had the first edition since it was released and had no idea a second edition was released for the US. Mine are 6 years old and have held up well with TLC. How would you say the 2nd edition card stock is compared to the first?
Hi Kerry, I have watched your video a couple of times now and I have decided I actually like the US version best. That's the one I have just ordered, and as someone below says, I was afraid I might be missing out, but I can see that I actually prefer the close-ups and I don't mind about the 'cleaning up' references to bad old sex and alcohol, ha ha. Can't wait to see it in real life.
The censorship of the US is so stupidly hypocritical and inconsistent. I just bought the US version thinking not much will be different... I'm disappointed that the Absinthe Fairy won't be included... I want to buy the Australian version as well now.
Hi, I am reading reviews about the US version card stock being flimsy and not holding up well for readings. I am not sure if I should get a copy if the cards won't hold up. What is your opinion on getting the US version?
I know - they made the artist change several images in the Wildwood Tarot, too, because they were too naked! I guess maybe they think a young audience is cooler and has more buying power, either directly or through their parents? Dunno. I'm 41 and I love her art, too :D
How about the cardstock? the Shapeshifter version from America is very thin.I wish they would cell the diffrent version to everyone.Holland gets the American version and the Ausie version in Dutch were the writing is horrible usally so im not even gonna try that
Yanks and their aversion to nipples! LOL I wonder who made the decision that this deck would be (or should be) more attractive to a younger audience. I'm 42 and I think both versions are BRILLIANT! Thanks again :D
I have the Dutch version of this deck. All images are the same as the Australian version. And the text is one on one copied from the Australian text. Parential control is very, read to strick, in the U.S.. My opinion, forbidden fruiits are more intersting to explore for young people.

This was so helpful. Thank you very much!

Great comparison! I just got the US edition, and now I know I will buy the AUS edition as well!

Thank you for letting me know you did this, and thank you so much for the comparison!! I SO need to get the Oz version---:D

Do you have decks you recommend? I was really wanting one "dark" deck, but wasn't committed to the Vampyre one or the Gothic one...hmm.
I used to have the Australian version years ago. No wonder when I looked at the US version which I plan to buy it felt slightly different.
Hi pracillalunalove, thank you, I'm delighted that you found the comparison interesting :)
WOW...I LOVE THIS DECK..VERY NICE...ADORE!
It is gorgeous! BB

Second Editon btw 😉
Sorry to hear you lost your copy, AutumnAngelx3! Hope you manage to get your hands on another. At least now you can choose between the two versions ;)
Hmm, I'm sure you could get it somewhere if you tried... But both editions are lovely, in any case :)
wonderful review ii want the au vs for sure
Hi Jasmine, glad you liked the comparative review :) I didn't realise there was a Japanese version, though... *wanders off to search the interwebs* ;D
I think Ian Daniels' Tarot of Vampyres is my favourite, but the Bohemian Gothic is also very good :)
Well, they are both lovely. Hope you enjoy it! :)
P.S. I've put a link in the video description above to the review I posted of the Australian version of the Oracle of the Shapeshifters :)

Thanks for your review! I ended up getting the American deck. :P
I know, I can't wait for the Vampire Oracle, either ;D

Hiya MsMorningglory23, haven't seen any new info on this for a while, hope it's still going ahead...
i like the AU better then the US. it was worth the extra money. thanks for doing this video i no longer have any wondering of what i didnt get:)
A woman after my own heart :D Would love to compare collections one day...
I know - they made the artist change several images in the Wildwood Tarot, too, because they were too naked! I guess maybe they think a young audience is cooler and has more buying power, either directly or through their parents? Dunno. I'm 41 and I love her art, too :D
May I ask where I can find more info on this upcoming "vampire oracle"? thanks! :)

never knew , I have the deck to the right, but mine is bought in UK
Good job! thanks
I wondered why mine looked different from everyone else's....mine is the Australia ones
Yanks and their aversion to nipples! LOL I wonder who made the decision that this deck would be (or should be) more attractive to a younger audience. I'm 42 and I think both versions are BRILLIANT! Thanks again :D

thanks for sharing. I also do deck reviews if you'd like to stop over sometime. xoxo
The artwork is completely out of balance with out the details in many cards for the U.S. deks. Too Bad,,,,
