Fun fact: UN Village (pronounced like U.N. Village -- like United Nations -- UN. Not unvillage.) is a real place in Korea. It's a ritzy, trendy neighborhood in Korea where some of the top celebrities and idols live. For example, some of the members of BigBang and SHINee have, or used to have, apartments/condos in UN Village. The area is known for its cool architecture and landscapes, and I think some of this MV was either shot in UN Village or, at the very least, the sets were meant to emulate the look of UN Village. So Baekhyun has said that the song is supposed to make listens feel like they want to take their date to UN Village and wander through the streets and buildings while whispering words of love in their ear, etc. "UN Village" and this album City Lights is Baekhyun's solo debut. He kind of surprised all of us with this one. Before the song was released, we all were trying to guess what kind of style and sound his first album was going to have. And, although this style totally makes sense for him, I don't think many were anticipating it would be quite this soulful. However, since then, all of Baekhyun's albums have been heavily R&B based. Also, as you may know, Baekhyun's superpower is the ability to control light. So, although "UN Village" is a love song and he is singing to and about a girl and about her light, the lyrics are also referencing the fact that his superpower is the ability to control light. The lyrics have a double meaning -- it's about love, but it's also about how he can literally turn off the street lights with his powers. That is why this MV has so many references to spotlights and shadows and light and dark and why you see the shadow of lamps with bare light bulbs, and why it's in black and white, etc. Hence, one reason why the album is called City Lights, which obviously also references his power. LOL As with almost everything EXO does, the red light is thought to represent the Red Force and blue represents EXO. So the scenes that are red could be instances where the Red Force is in control and the scenes in blue are when Baekhyun has the upper hand. Also take note of the giant map he is looking at hanging on the wall in this MV. When you eventually get to watch EXO-CBX's MV for their song "Horololo," you will see what many think is that same map hanging on the wall in the office Chen, Baekhyun and Xiumin are in in their "Horololo" MV. The scene with Baekhyun laying on the table still hasn't been explained, but it is thought that it will eventually become important to connect something to do with EXO's storyline in the future. As you know, everything EXO does is connected to the group's concept and storyline. This song and MV is an example of how even EXO's solo projects are part of the story. Even as soloists, they can't escape the fact that they are members of EXO. So, "UN Village" and City Lights is supposed to have an evening theme and his follow up song "Candy" and Delight repackaged album, is supposed to be daytime/daylight. It all is meant to play off of each other. :D The two albums are as different as night and day. You should check out Baekhyun's dance practice for "Candy" next, there is a reason why he is considered one of EXO's top dancers even though he isn't part of the dance line.

I had the privilege of hearing Baekhyun sing this live while on tour with Super M. It was my first K-pop concert, and it was amazing of course. The most fitted is… EXO lol. Baekhyun collaborated with Prive Alliance to create a line of streetwear (as seen in Candy). Kai is the global Gucci ambassador. Chanyeol is probably the most fashionable on the daily, and has posed Prada as a brand ambassador. Suho is also very interested in fashion. Sehun is the global ambassador for Dior.

@@BrianMeetsWorld An EXO concert anywhere near the U.S. would cause a glitch in the matrix lol As far as I know, EXO has never toured as a group to the West; I think they played a show in NYC many years ago. They they stay in Asia, but have toured South America. Their label is problematic, but who knows! This ahjumma hopes to see them over here in the future. If you get a chance to see any K-pop show near your city, I highly recommend checking it out.
The more you listen you realize why they’re in a big group, the company didn’t want to drop any of them cause they are all so talented vocally 😅 so they made em one. I can’t pick the best in the group. They are like a remedy for my different emotions so I listen to certain members depending on my mood, I’ve stuck with baekhyun because his music the most but Kai is my bias and I love his music as well so yeah it just depends, I can’t choose😂
