i watched Playtime first and it didn't do much for me. months later i watched Mon Oncle and thought it was brilliant. after that i sort of understood Tati's style better and when i watched Playtime again it really came together for me.

Tati makes a specific form of movie that is purely his own. Jour de Fete is a lesser film but Hulot is typical Tati. Give Mon Oncle a try and you should start to get it.
