I've always wondered: In the configuration with liftable axles, don't the tires that aren't lifted wear out faster that the lifted ones? And does it really have any advantage to have a liftable axle? Especially when it's sometimes the 2nd axle and somethimes the 3rd one. Or when one axle has smaller wheels. Thank you
In addition to less tire wear, the advantage of liftable axles is a higher axle load only when it is needed. more grip on the road when needed (especially with driven axles) when maneuvering, the axles are lifted to have a smaller turning circle because there is no need to push over both rear axles.
