So I wanted to try some extra damage on my Storm Brand Inquisitor and I tried Winter Orb. Nowadays, I mostly just run about with Winter Orb on a 4L because it's enough for tier 5 maps (where I am) and rarely need to brand anything but bosses .. I can only imagine the damage output of this thing with a proper build. Great guide Nathan!! Thanks!
I had so little time to play PoE this league so I´m 90 worb. I followed some guide, but your looks much cooler. With cast speed it looks so smooth. Thanks for the video
With the change of the skill tree and infused channeling I think we got a buff for Winter Orb. Also did a build guide about this in both 3.5 and 3.6, but im not doing it quite the same way. Tryied cold to fire under optimal conditions in pob and you are probobly better of using an other gem. Also conc effect is going to make the overlapping of dmg much less likely to happen, yes it will pump up your pob numbers but in reality its not. Would love some feedback:) Thanks for the video.
Cold to fire definitely seems like a good choice IMO and lets herald of ash actually do some work (I really don't think any other gem comes close, but feel free to show me otherwise). I also think we can get away with conc effect because of how much AoE we get on the tree, but controlled destruction would be a good alternative if you are worried about your AoEs not overlapping enough.
Interesting take on the WORB, but i am not "sold" on cast speed. You can always hit less often but much harder. The gear in PoB also has some astronomical values and very expensive gear. Much much expensive than in my build for example. Non-crit is also pretty bad dps for any non-dot spells.. (my opinion) Still interesting to see alternative variation! And holy shit dude the editing and your speech are just so good. An absolute pleasure to watch and listen!

Hey Nathan - I went for Gooby's build based on your recommendation. I'm finding some of the gear reqs to break my balls. This would have been a pretty tidy mid way point, but i feel like im not too far into to turn back. I like your take on it I think, and would def be cheaper to run, and looks to be performing quite highly at end game!
Why cold to fire, exactly? And not like other more typical stuff like Hypothermia or something? Also, why HoA as well? I see "most" builds using HoI and HoT (sometimes not even HoT) with Ice Bite on HoI and curse on hit warlords or wahtever on the HoT? What are your thoughts on that?
Cold to fire is more damage for this build. Maybe people just want to shatter more reliably with the pure cold version, but running cold to fire allows to us use herald of ash (it would do literally nothing for this build otherwise) which is a significant damage boost. Ice bite with herald of ice is fine but unnecessary especially when you get the green nightmare. Warlord's mark with herald of thunder is fine but you'd need to not use temp chains or figure out how to fit +1 curse in. All the changes you suggested are viable- I just didn't think of or choose to use them myself.
@@nathanbrotherbob According to the pob and my build setup , I find that running Hypothermia has higher dps compare to Cold to Fire + ash (it also saves me 22% mana reservation so I can run Zealoustry). Maybe is because I run Circle of Fear on my left ring instead of using the typical Mark of the Shaper (honestly Circle of Fear is very op with no requirement whatsoever. You can even try to get an op implicit base through synthesis that has elemental % damage bonus), so my build benefit more from cold dm.
@@nathanbrotherbob That's fair. I haven't gotten to try HoA + C2F just yet, as my sockets are acting up, but I guess I'll try it myself to see how it feels. Thanks for recommending Faster Casting gem in the link. Checked the Pob, compare to cold pen, I only lose around 10k damage, but now my cast time to get 10 stack of wo is even faster, plus they're firing more rapidly = trigger my on hit heal more frequently. Abit suggestion here, you can try using the new unique ring that buff Herald effect (60%cold damage and 100% herald of ice effect, even more powerful than Mark of the Shaper) , so now you can use a shaper ring to get on hit heal for spell. It is even more useful than leeching against bosses. Also yes, I stop using warlord mark ring because it is not needed, and has other source of leeching from other stuffs. I can run curse on hit Enfeeble/ Temp chain instead for even more safety.
Tried angry roleplayer's Worb buildguide that prob has more endgame dps (dont know yet, but it was critbased and 1mil dps on PoB) but it felt very clunky and slow for mid game, didnt have duration nodes so had to stop all the time, then respecced to this one and its sooooo much faster at least in mid game with mediocre gear. thanks for this!
Seems about right, don’t forget that he built the char in standard with GG gear in all slots. Crit get better than non crit yes, but you need a lot of investment into gear for it to feel good.
Definitely a build I'll have to give a try, once the PS4 version launches tomorrow. This guide is quite helpful, very much appreciated. Liked and subbed. I what beginner weapons and armor do you recommend to begin with when first starting?
I guess it's the standard: 2xLifesprig, Wanderlust/Victario's Flight, Tabula Rasa, Asenath's Mark, Lochtonial Caress. Bated Breath at level 22 if ES, else Belt of the Deceiver.
I've seen a lot of people use cold to fire in this build and i don't understand why, isn't it better to focus on 1 elemental damage type and get penetration for it?
It's because this build is played as an Elementalist and the ascendancy node Mastermind of Discord gives you 25% damage penetration of each element, assuming you are using the 3 elemental heralds, which you are in this case. So Cold to Fire is definitely worth it.
Great guide man. Fastest I've ever leveled any character by far. What piece of gear should I drop the first chunk of currency on? Should I grab the inpulsa's and try to 6L it or get the ammy and the other rare gear first?
Hey Nathan, thanks fror the guide! i used it to kill UE for the first time, but im really struggeling to make it tanky for a solid 100 push. Some advice on that or a follow up video would be wonderful! thanks!
Elementalist only offers dps which winter orb already has. Trickster and occultist are both less dps but much much more survivability (trickster is also faster moves peed cast speed and free frenzy and power charges on bosses which you can't do with elementalist) Ascendant isn't really an option with slayer ascendancy nerf.
Doesn't matter where you have it, and according to PoB I only have 18% mana unreserved, which is more than enough considering the mana cost of winter orb after the proper "- total mana of skills" crafts is literally zero.
@@nathanbrotherbob it def reserves more mana if you have gems inside the gear, on my gloves as is, it reserves 22% mana and if i put in a lvl 20 inc duration it goes to 31% mana reserved for aspect of the spider
I m using a shaper glove with built in Faster Casting and Slower projectiles, no wonder i felt the ice projectiles shooting half slower than yours/other people's Winter Orb. I m a total noob in mechanics but how different does this differ to your setup with the last gem being different (concentrated effect vs Slower projectiles)?
Well conc effect is way more damage in PoB, but I think many people don't use it because they are concerned with the AoE's not overlapping enough. I personally don't think that's an issue if you invest enough in AoE on the tree or are elementalist (this build has both), but if you want a middle ground between slower proj and conc effect you can use controlled destruction which is another viable option.
@@nathanbrotherbob I think you don't need that much more dps in mapping, so conc is not needed. The bigger aoe is better for mapping in general. Just put in as reserved gem and swap in when fighting against tough bosses. (probably swap out control destruction)
hmm why go for herald of thunder besides the flashy effects?, i checked on PoB and you only get 1k dps out of it, you could drop it and ease up on the mana cost reduction rings but i guess the lightning bolts will help with clearspeed, also why go the pendulum route 1st over conflux is it to go triple herald asap and clear as fast as possible?
If I can squeeze a Pyre ring into this would it be beneficial enough to justify the ring slot? I figure it'd be great for Herald of Ash / non-chaos as extra chaos , but enough to justify idk.
Looks fun, but as a POE beginner who plays rather casually I'm just not getting it. What gear am I supposed to put all that gems in? Whereever most of the showed gems fit at once? The leveling process is rather tedious when your setup just doesn't let you use the stuff the guides are talking about. Let's say, what's the minimum gear to use winter orb at level 28 without it being a pain in the butt? Or is everything in poe just about paining through to endgame? A build requiring tabula rasa isn't really beginner friendly. O.o
on the contrary, tabula is incredibly beginner friendly, its easily target farmed over a few hours in Blood Aquaducts. It's one of the most accessible uniques in the game!
@@gamercorehop Well, seems I gotta take another look into this kind of (obviously) basic stuff. I'm still kinda overwhelmed and try to find my way around. Maybe I'm trying too hard to replicate endgame setups, so that I get frustrated too early.
@@epischewurststullederverda1483 you only need a 4 link to progress all the way to maps. If you want you can farm the blood aqeduct for tabula divination cards but its not necessary.
Hey Nathan, Great video, I just switched to this build and it feels way smoother than the way I had it set up before. I have a question though. I'm at the point where I can buy one or more of the more expensive uniques. Would you recommend Grabbing an Inpulsa's first or the combo or Solstice Vigil and Dying sun? I have enough currency to do one or the other and I don't know what the better option would be. Currently running a tabula rasa. Also, if I could only 5-link the Inpulsa's, which of the support gems for WO is least important? Thanks
@@sirmoke9646 Thanks "Sir", incredibly helpful response! Glad you saw through my small error to leave this informative, detailed, yet concise pearl of wisdom from which I will no doubt learn to lead a better life. Really, kudos for your input, you're a star, man.
@Nathan Walker New player here. Great guide! I didnt understand why your build uses the passive Blood Drinker? Specifcally how does the 0.4% of Attack Damage Leeched as Life benefit the build? Im sure Im missing something and hopefully I can learn something! Thanks!
Awesome guide! Could you touch a bit on why you run cold to fire? Beeb following random people on poe.ninja and most run hypothermia. Running a 5l inpulsa for the time being, what would you recommend as the 5 to prioritize? Thanks, will try switching some things up when I get home
Great video. Love the build. My only concern/suggestion is changing out infused channeling as 99% of the time, I wont be channeling long enough to activate the perk. I know its largely for the damage reduction as well as decent damage buff, but if I'm mobile most of the time I dont need to worry about the reduced damage and there are better gems for extra dps. Thoughts?
I'm yet to try Winter Orb. The thing is, it feels a bit to much automated. Does Winter Orb really do everything for you? And how do you rate your build against g00fy_goober's Winter Orb?
So I heard your argument on Faster Casting and can see how that would be beneficial. Why cold to fire over something like Hypothermia? I figured Hypothermia is one of the best damage supports for WO. I thought it applied to the first hit so mobs don't have to be chilled first to gain the damage? Also freezing. I assume you use CTF for the benefit to conversion to chaos and herald of ash so I don't really know what is best but Hypothermia just seems so good
Cold to fire is significantly more damage if you are using herald of ash and stack a fair amount of flat cold damage (both of which this build aims to do). Hypothermia does have the nice defensive benefit of freezing more often, but elementalist already gives us enough of that IMO. I would almost assuredly run hypothermia with any and every other ascendancy, but in this case it's the best choice for DPS by a pretty hefty margin.
I’m having a shitty league so far, I was thinking about rerolling for Winter Orb since I didn’t play it last league, I guess your video is a sign of what I must do, thanks!
It's kinda expensive to max out, but it's very cheap to start, meaning you don't have to invest much to get to a point where you can comfortably farm your way up to the expensive parts.
I can't activate herald of ice, herald of thunder, herald of ash and temporal chains same time what should I do Im just new player can anyone help me pls ? and thank you

I guess it's the standard: 2xLifesprig, Wanderlust/Victario's Flight, Tabula Rasa, Asenath's Mark, Lochtonial Caress. Bated Breath at level 22 if ES, else Belt of the Deceiver.
Just started POE. Loving it so far. Just one question, do you duel wield wands because of the duel wield passive in the skill tree?
That, and it's just more damage than using a shield instead
This is amazing. Would this still work for Legion? I was thinking of doing this one as a league starter with a few tweeks
What items would you recommend to get first from the recommended list? dying sun, inpulsa, or solstice?
Dying sun for sure.
How can i fix the fps problems? I run another games with more than 100 fps but in poe cant reach 30 and idk why
depends not only on upload but your latency speed. mobas usually require a decent latency of 75 or better
Awesome video, subscribed
Great guide man. Fastest I've ever leveled any character by far. What piece of gear should I drop the first chunk of currency on? Should I grab the inpulsa's and try to 6L it or get the ammy and the other rare gear first?
I'd honestly prioritize the flask, amulet, and gloves. But up to you!
How can you run all 3 heralds + aspect of spider? Heralds reserve 19% with ascendancy and aspect of spider reserve 45% -> 19*3+45=102%
Aspect of the Spider reserves 25%, unless you are supporting it with a support gem on the gear you've crafted it on, which isn't necessary.
Hey why does my winter orb only fire 1 projectiila when i have greater mutiple projectilla any 1 know why? Thanks for answering
Are they socketed in the same gear. and are the sockets linked to each other?
@@JorgeChang550 i found it by trail and erorr noob her
A Black Hole or Celestial effect for the Orb would be really nice. It would mesh better with some of the herald explosion effects.
Hey Nathan, thanks fror the guide! i used it to kill UE for the first time, but im really struggeling to make it tanky for a solid 100 push. Some advice on that or a follow up video would be wonderful! thanks!
Could you recommend a good chest as a substitute for Inpulsa's until I get it please?
Tabula, and if you feel squishy, just a corrupted rare 6L with the colors you need and a lot of life- that should run you about 50-100c tops
Nathan Walker nice one mate thank you for the reply, will take the advice
Can you buy winter orb from a vendor? have not had one drop yet (level 48)
i am VERY new so be gentle
Yes, it's a quest reward in act 3 for the quest "sever the right hand" I believe and can also be purchased from Lily Roth in act 6
Elementalist only offers dps which winter orb already has. Trickster and occultist are both less dps but much much more survivability (trickster is also faster moves peed cast speed and free frenzy and power charges on bosses which you can't do with elementalist) Ascendant isn't really an option with slayer ascendancy nerf.
am i missing something? how are you fitting in aspect of the spider with x3 heralds, you would have 8% mana unreserved
nvm, i guess you have to have it on a ring, not gloves like i had for my previous character
Doesn't matter where you have it, and according to PoB I only have 18% mana unreserved, which is more than enough considering the mana cost of winter orb after the proper "- total mana of skills" crafts is literally zero.
@@nathanbrotherbob it def reserves more mana if you have gems inside the gear, on my gloves as is, it reserves 22% mana and if i put in a lvl 20 inc duration it goes to 31% mana reserved for aspect of the spider
added in acane surge with inc duration it's now 39% mana reserve
so you ideally want it on a ring or your belt.
Nathan when you show the gems on the screen it would be really nice if you also had their name displayed as well
You're not the first person to suggest this, I'll be sure to do so next time.
How do you have such a high upkeep of the orb? And it doesn't seem like you have to stop and cast. How?
Lots of cast speed makes charging take like half a second to hit max stacks
@@nathanbrotherbob Awesome thanks for the reply! Really appreciate your video man. It helps a bunch.
sorry if i missed it but what is you're opinion on the pandemonius neck?
Bad for this version of the build (we deal mostly fire damage) but definitely good for others.
@@nathanbrotherbob kk ty
How are you able to get these explosions while casting? Is it one lf these gems?
Believe that's Herald proc-ing and he's got the MTX for it as well.
I figure it'd be great for Herald of Ash / non-chaos as extra chaos , but enough to justify idk.
what is the effect the enemies have when they die? looking great (im a kinda poe noobie)
herald (of fire, ice lightning) mtx :) mtx = cash shop graphics for costumes, skills, etc.
If you want you can farm the blood aqeduct for tabula divination cards but its not necessary.
would it work with a trickster instead of elementalist for a tankier version?
was wondering too, esp the quality of life Trickster brings to self cast this season.
Yeah for sure I'd focus on crit and pure cold tho to shatter more so the build would be kinda different
hey nathan what is your opinion on wearing 2 x legacy snakepit ring ( 10% increase cast speed, 40% cold spell, Spell fires an additional projectile. )
Probably fine, tho you'd have to figure out leech from somewhere else.
. My first build. It is still avaible in 3.9 after past nerfs? For endgame? I hate how slow and short duration WO have now
What do you think about shade of solaris? does it worth it?
Hey Nathan,
Great video, I just switched to this build and it feels way smoother than the way I had it set up before.
Thanks
Is there a point in running Herald of Fire before you have cold to fire conversion?
You mean herald of ash? Yes. Being elementalist and all...
Thanks!
14% max life for 2 points.
Awesome guide! Could you touch a bit on why you run cold to fire? Beeb following random people on poe.ninja and most run hypothermia. Running a 5l inpulsa for the time being, what would you recommend as the 5 to prioritize?
Thanks, will try switching some things up when I get home
It's just more damage with herald of ash, and I would probably drop conc effect as your 5L.
New Poe player here. What builds can run ele and phys dmg reflect maps? Every build I look at seems to have one, or both of those as a con.
Damage over time builds like essence drain/bane/soulrend, totem builds, and some minion builds can run reflect maps fairly reliably.
Thoughts?
how do you move so fast?? and what causes those purple explosions?? great job.
The purple explosions come from the celestial herald mtx.
@@ShiroKarasu120 t/y, so i can buy this in transaction store?
Good job 👌
I'm yet to try Winter Orb. The thing is, it feels a bit to much automated. Does Winter Orb really do everything for you? And how do you rate your build against g00fy_goober's Winter Orb?
Still need to dodge things :(
Dude, you pump magic into a giant snowball that shoots rapid fire snowballs at monsters. It's incredible
I think the Occultist CI Crit version beats this build in every category but cost(unless you use the Lightning chest) and skill duration.
link to how to make that mace? I started playing on ps4. There is so much I am kind of lost
I’m having a shitty league so far, I was thinking about rerolling for Winter Orb since I didn’t play it last league, I guess your video is a sign of what I must do, thanks!
is Spine of the first claimant iron sceptre good for winter orb build?
What are your cosmetics and skill effects?
please and thanks :D
I'm lvling up, and struggle for low mana. What I should drop one of heralds or temporal chains?
Dropt TC, i've used it after i got Solstice Vigil =) u got more dmg with herolds
in the passive tree make sure not to take Heartseeker, because Elemental Overload cancels its effect
I just double checked my tree, and it looks like I didn't take heartseeker (which you're right, would have been a mistake)
Is this a budget build because I'm half way invested into this build but my friend says its expensive to max out? I'm new to path of exile on ps4.
It's kinda expensive to max out, but it's very cheap to start, meaning you don't have to invest much to get to a point where you can comfortably farm your way up to the expensive parts.
@@nathanbrotherbob ok thanks, I'll stick to you're build and give it a try.
Great build , I was lucky to drop tabula rasa and I'm owning lol . What God's I should chose at pantheon?
Doesn't matter at all, pantheon choices are largely personal preference/encounter specific.
I love aesthetics of winter orb, but I also love spell totems, would it be very different from many spell totems builds?
Question. Why not ele damage on the belt?
I can't activate herald of ice, herald of thunder, herald of ash and temporal chains same time what should I do Im just new player can anyone help me pls ? and thank you
