I've sawn allot of old harwood homestead trees planted here in Idaho he 1870s and on. Most were walnut, butternut, and white oak. Outstanding piece, and I appreciate your video. Also, that saw is fine...fine!! Thanks again!

YEARS ago I gave a cabinet builder friend of mine several 6 ft. Sycamore Logs I had laying around for a while and he made a beautiful China Cabinet and Kitchen Table with them. Furniture made with Often “Not Used Woods” make REALLY NICE Furniture. Magnolia and Honey Locust are two other good light colored woods to use to.

Do you really know how moving some of your videos are? You are freeling the soul of these woods! I'll never forget sitting with Homer Ledford in the basement of his Lexington Ky house watching him put the first strings on my new Black Walnut Ledford Dulcimer and then tuning it up. Excuse me while I wipe away these sentimental tears! Cut away!

I think I might have shed a tear for those colors. Not many things can compete with the beauty of an old logs inner story.

Of course your video is on what you do, and part of what you do beyond slabbing, you produce videos. I must say, that song was very beautiful and you did recognize it as such. New to your channel love it! sure someone has said this but don't judge a book by it's cover is what I learned here. I would of cut that log up for firewood but after seeing this, I will be milling anything that looks big enough and solid enough, I don't have a Wood Mizer, just a woodland mills HM 130 but it does what I want it, building my cabin. Thanks!

I live in the foothills of N.C. Your area looks like home. Work never kills anyone, lack of it does. Enjoy every day of work, as life is short. Beautiful piece of wood, we took down a massive black walunt off a farm in north Ontario back in the 70's when I was a kid, was the nicest wood I ever seen.

When u use that mill put shims in after every 10"s of cut in between layers to hold up on the wood and not generate heat friction that will wear down ur band blade and have something to run the blade through to keep it cool so the hardness of the teeth will stay. Best advice I can give other than that keep up the good work

The timberking I ust to run the blade was water cooled. Had a 5 gallon jug that sat atop The carriage with a drip hose that ran down to the blade. The green end of that thing will make you a man or beat you down one of the two. With 2 guys we would saw about 4000 feet a day. All by hand

I didn't appreciate the beauty of walnut back then(70's) but my dad and his friend would oooh and awwe over it all day long.

My father was a wood worker I remember him telling us kids if you look long enough on a cut grains of a wood it's will start talking to you it will tell you about years of plenty and years of not so, it will remember bad storms and wild fires it being an unforgettable time when he teaches us how to read the wood grains remember everything just like yesterday, after many years passed since. I grew up in central Europe in former Soviet union country called Belarus my father being drafted by government to help evacuate people from Chernobyl after nuclear explosion in mid 80 unfortunately it kill him in his prime years but tables, chairs, window frames, little baby rocking beds he make still around today , log you sawing could lay and rot but you give it a new life it will bring joy and satisfaction to a people eyes for many more decades my respect to you .

I once bought a fixer-upper-grandma house born in 1908 in Houlton Maine. There was a cut-and-sanded walnut plank in the dungeon (er, basement). I used it for a shelf above my new sink when remodeling the bathroom. Walnut smells heavenly to me, so I didn''t ever stain it. A touch of water, sniff, and have a good mood.

Use shade cloth to help cut down outside glare. Hang down loose be easy to get by when moving wood.

FYI. i was told by an old timer many years ago, that all the rifle stocks used by the allies in WWl were made from black walnut from Lambton County, Ontario, Canada.
He's full of shit. Maybe 5% of walnut will make a gun stock. They used walnut from absolutely anywhere they could get it.

I’ve never seen wood look so pretty like that. I watch a lot of wood working videos and while part of me is like “that would look good as this that or the other” it’s almost pretty enough just to frame. Bet that would make a gorgeous wood + resin table, though.

This is why you finish wood - real lacquer, a few coats polyurethane varnish (dilute the first 2 coats), or even just wax. You get the look of the wet wood. Unless you normally air dry the wood for long enough that it doesn't matter, you should wipe it down with mineral spirits to show the true nature of the wood instead of using water. Water raises the grain, so you have to wait until it is fully dry to use it. Mineral spirits don't. Nor does acetone, but that stuff flashes off too fast. People may not like clear polyurethane varnish (it's plastic, after all), but I love the stuff. It shows the true beauty of the wood and protects it from damage. I wish I were a woodworker with enough skill to use the slabs you cut from this awesome trunk!

Mister- You displayed one of the “Absolute Videos” I’ve ever seen on TH-cam. You took the time and didn’t rush anything you did. I used chainsaws and a great 31 ton log splitter fo almost 25 years back in Wayne Co. and Monroe Co. NY. There’s just something about felling trees and the smell of fresh cut wood. You either like it or you don’t. That wood you cut was “gorgeous”. I cut down a huge “curly maple” once. A wood worker took it immediately and made some great furniture from it. I’ll be looking for more of your videos. Thank You for putting them on for us..
