    Friendly FYI. There's a discrepancy between the video recipe and the recipe in the description. Follow what Kenji does in the video and only use *one* clove of garlic, *not two* as it says in the description. I made the recipe last night and followed the description and I ended up with Garlic sauce instead of ranch dressing. All the other ingredient measurements are good :)

    I, as a Belgian, have never had ranch before, because I don't think we have it here. I've looked it up couple a times but never really got to try and make it because it usually was in (to) small batches, to really make it for a group. I did however wanna try to make it for myself with one of the first recipes I found online but decided afterwards to not try to give it to my guests the day after. However you seem to give me a complete different idea of what I first read and will most likely try this again soon! I've been stoked to taste this most beloved American condiment. I'll try this and maybe a buttermilk 'original' version of this! I'll keep my thoughts posyed here!

    So I tried this recipe at home, but I didn't have yogurt so I used sour cream, and I only had miracle whip. I thinned it out with a bit of milk. Also, I didn't have a lime, so I used rice wine vinegar, and I don't have fresh dill and chives, so I replaced that with italian seasoning and dried basil.
    I have to say, omg, best dressing ever! I immediately threw away my blue cheese dressing, ranch dressing, cesar dressing, honey mustard dressing, and italian dressing, and will be using this fresh stuff from now on. Thank you!1!!!11!!
    /s
    but no seriously, I did do all that stuff, your philosophy and method inspired me to try to making my own dressing, not to be any one type of dressing, but to be something I would like. I added cautiously and tasted as I went, and you know, it was really good!
    Thanks, Kenji.

    Knowing stuff like this really comes in handy. I had some really lame chicken tenders from the supermarket -- no spiciness at all -- and I added a few drops of Cholula and something else (can't remember) and heated them up in the oven. They were much tastier. So I said to my gf, I can make some sorta fake ranch dressing to go with this and whipped it up in about 2 minutes using mayo and some evaporated milk. It worked just fine. I came back here to refresh my memory: dill, garlic and black pepper, and other ingredients to taste.

    Hidden valley ranch in the bottle, in my opinion, is trash. My favorite flavor of ranch is from wingstop. I’m sure all they do is use ranch packets with buttercream and mayo, but man, it just hits different.

  • @EllissDee4you4me
    @EllissDee4you4me 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I just absulutely love that he is not scared of MSG. I hear so often how bad MSG is for you but this is just not true. Any ingredient rich in glutamides like tomatoes, cooked with added table salt, changes the glutamides into monosodium glutamate, aka MSG. I.E, any time you cook a tomatoe with salt you create MSG. It really gets a bad rep for no reason. Not all salts taste salty. Romans loved lead acetate which has a nice sweet taste despite it's toxicity. MSG is simply a salt with an umami flavor. Ideally you want to make it naturally in a dish but added MSG is great for fish fries, dry rubs, sauces, and really anything. It is a salt, so too much of it is bad for you, as is regular table salt, but MSG in reasonable amounts is a perfectly fine secret ingredient in many great dishes. I wish more people would come around to this.

    A warning for people making this: the 2 tablespoons of dried dill in the recipe is a ton, your dressing will be full of dill and it's gonna be a really pushy front taste. I'd choose to use fresh dill if possible as well. Otherwise: great stuff!

    I just made this and I am a very bad cook. I thought it was quite "dill-y", was that because I got out a 1/4 measuring cup and kept putting minced dill in until it got to the top? Additionally, the strong dill flavor might be because my ranch dressing looked a little more firm and less of an amount overall than Kenji's. Did he actually add more than 1/2 cup yogurt and 1/4 cup mayo? I even added an extra heaping spoonful like he does in the video but mine still seemed to be less of an amount overall and much less pourable as he does into the jar. I even used the same Fage yogurt. I'm a terrible cook and it's unfortunate that even mirroring (I bought the same Magnum pepper mill, grinded it out, picked up the ground pepper and put it in the teaspoon so it was exact even) the recipe, I some how managed to screw it up! Arrrrghhhh!!!

    I never used ranch dressing until I was 28... My ex wife dipped her crust in it.. She is from Hawaii... I'm 42 now and I'm hooked.

    Look at Kenji’s videos all growing up! Tracked text, his own outro, and a new logo to boot!!! Can’t wait to see where the channel goes in the future.

    Dear Kenji, For me (Puerto Rican living in Mexico) Valle Escondida is closer to Dark Valley.. Here in Oaxaca we have a Puerto Escondido (HIdden Port) so for su I think it would translate Valle Escondido. If in Peruvian Spanish itis indeed Valle Oscura I will defer becausee Standard American (the continent) Spanish always gravitates to Peruvian usage. Love your vids Jim Oaxaca Retired

    Thank you for this awesome recipe! I’ve made this a dozen time and love it. I have switched to using cream instead of yogurt for the texture and wonder if you had a reason for using the yogurt over cream? Thanks so much for all the work you put into each video!

    Ranch was invented in Alaska by a retired Plumber and his wife, who then moved to Cali and bought Hidden Valley Ranch.

    Hidden Valley Ranch is the best, but you have to buy the packet and make it as per the directions. Not the store bot bottle.
