It's really interesting to hear the viewpoint of someone who is from London and living in Southampton. I have lived here all my life and one thing I would say to anyone of colour is that this is one of the safest cities around. I can remember going out of Southampton to Winchester and Eastleigh and those are places where you really do feel your colour. Living in Southampton people are aware of your culture and respect you regardless of your ethnicity. Unfortunately, it is not a planned city so you have parks right slap bang in the middle of the city. There are loadsa of nightlife here! especially in around the marine area its all built new. Overall a great place to live. My kids are in Uni in other cities and literally miss the city because the vibe isn't the same.
all female students should be warned about walking through the city parks late at night. Why they aren't better lit with 24hr CCTV, or patrolled constantly after all the attacks i don't know. As a dad it really worries me. never use them as a short cut.
Went to this university 5 years ago to do my undergraduate degree in History some ups and downs here and left quite disillusioned but looking back things weren't all that bad. Now I am doing my masters which I am enjoying so much more and just got my first graduate role at my company. Hope you are enjoying your time at Southampton. One thing I miss about the uni is that the campus is beautiful!
Brilliant insights, loved the video! Currently thinking of choosing between University of Nottingham and University of Southampton as a postgraduate exchange student. Might go with Southampton because of the people, diversity and nicer weather! Thank you!
As one who lives in Soton (but is also white, that's important to note) Soton is pretty diverse, just the immediate areas around the uni less so, so for example, there's a lot of polish people living in shirley area and down by St Denys is pretty diverse, Bassett, less so unfortunately

this was sooo helpful! I've been looking for so long for more information about Southampton because I'm applying to come next year and couldn't find anything. i put the uni as main choice and i was starting to regret bc I literally didn't know anything else about this city besides its close to Portsmouth and Bournemouth beaches(which I love) and somehow close to London. Are people who aren't students allowed to ride the unilink bus too, the one you have free acess too or is it only students? I especially love that it's not as busy as London, I'm coming from a busy city too and I can't wait to get rid of the traffic and all that. What are some nice places to hang out outside there? Is it sunnier than in Manchester or London for example? The weather seems good, is it really rainy and gloomy? Thank you
Marie heyy and I’m glad you found it helpful. If you live in the student accommodation provided by the Uni, you get a free unilink bus pass, which means you can get on the busses for free for a year. Even if you aren’t a student you can still use unilink buses they are open to the public. Southampton is generally dry and sunny, sometimes we get rain but I’d say it’s not as frequent as London or Manchester c
There’s loads of things to do, especially in the city centre, there’s a lot of fancy restaurants and bars, there’s ice skating, cinema, bowling etc

Hello, thank you very much for this. I applied for a subject in this University, I find it very modern and in a cool city. I like south England. I was in Bournemouth and I enjoyed it :) I can tell Southampton has the good stuff - great location, sunny days, chilled vibes and clean area. oooo sorry just seen this comment, there is a lot of nice restaurants to eat at, especially near West Quay South. My faves are Cosmo, L'Osteria, Shanghai etc. Hope you enjoy xx

@@ellenacollinson4448 Hi! I know I'm late, but could you tell me why the Winchester Campus is so disconnected? And could you tell me about the fashion marketing and branding major? Are they a good major at Southampton?
@@Nina-sn6xi Hi there, a lot of people at the Southampton campuses honestly don't even seem to know WSA exists. Chris Arkit if recommend self-catered because it is good value for money, you have a decent kitchen. Part-catered can be very expensive, you share a small kitchen with like 13+ other ppl. Tbh it’s preference
@@virtueigbokwuwe thank you...in self catered how many ppl will share a kitchen?...my course will be in highfield campus and I will be joining for masters, so which halls and room category is convenient?
Chris Arkit ahh, self-catered is normally 6-7 per kitchen. I’d say for post-grad Mayflower or parr’s of Glen Eyre is really good :)
@@virtueigbokwuwe thanks a lot :)
Which University accommodation is close to engineering faculty.
And is there room cleaning service .
I'd say Wessex Lane and Glen Eyre halls and no there is not room cleaning service
I am considering an MSc in global health at the University of Southampton. Is global health in Southampton prestigious?
I'm not really sure sorry, I do know Southampton is a prestigious university in general.
Good video
Thank you!!
hi soutampton vs dmu which would u choose, love ur videos btw
Princess Orire personally I would choose Southampton :)
Are there electric scooters to rent?
How does the lecturers treat black people? I saw some really bad comments pertaining to race. It really has me second guessing if I should apply or not
erm personally I haven't had any bad experiences with lectures and same as my friends, but of course I can't speak for everyone's experience.
I’m coming down to Southampton with my boyfriend next month, would you be able to recommend a few cute places to go to? Xx
oooo sorry just seen this comment, there is a lot of nice restaurants to eat at, especially near West Quay South. My faves are Cosmo, L'Osteria, Shanghai etc. Hope you enjoy xx
Could you please suggest about part time job while studying in University of Southampton?
Yes I have a video explaining ways of getting money at uni, as well as jobs.th-cam.com/video/CbJqAAYdcv0/w-d-xo.html

@@virtueigbokwuwe what about Afrobeats
Southampton is a good university ...They rejected me ...so they aren't stupid.
I’m looking at university of Southampton, is there much of an ethnic community and diversity in students particularly African/Caribbean students?
No!
It's riddled with racists here. Why, just the other day the uni was stormed by skinheads and everyone got yeeted
@@iagree6677 r there alot of south asians or muslims??
I cant believe you didnt mention Southampton FC, the Titanic museum and the boat show..
and there are TWO universities.
if you added a short tour video and commented, it would have been even better, however good job.
James Bond ah yh there’s a lot I didn’t include but I made this in first year. But thanks :)
@@virtueigbokwuwe I see it's been a while then, but keep updating your work whenever you get a chance, coz people will keep on visiting even for years to come, you can just name it part 1 and part 2 for example, just a little tip, unless you lost interest, but well done.
Never mind just found this vid 🤣x

Best city in the south
Facts!
are there a fair amount of asian (brown) people there. or is it not much
Honestly, there are not a lot, well compared to London or other cities there’s a significant difference
Lived here 45 years and there is a big asian community, try living in St Marys if you want to live in in Asian community, i walk through there alone and never have any bother any time of day or night and really friendly shop keepers and many Asian shops.
@@virtueigbokwuwe That is not a correct statement, look at Londons population v Little Southampton!! You need to stop going to west quay restaurants lol and get out and about in different areas there is a big Asian community and a great asset to the city. Enjoy Southampton, it's a friendly place if common sense is applied.
I find your question very racist? What did ever brown ppl do to you?
thx a lot
Jesus loves you
Believe in him and repent !

+1 Respect

Bruh what about the campus in Winchester 🥺
Ellena Collinson oh sorry, you are right, it’s a very pretty campus, just haven’t been there ☹️
no worries! I was just worried the Winchester campus was so disconnected that people didn’t even know it was there 😣
Ellena Collinson it is
@@ellenacollinson4448 Hi!
And there's a free shuttle from WSA to Southampton but it doesn't run late enough to take part fully in societies. the Society fare was also lame as heck at WSA lol, it made have been because of Covid though. I also had SO much trouble getting into halls in southampton (rather than Winchester) because I studied in Winchester, so WSA students are kinda doomed to being a bit out of the loop. Sorry I don't know much about the fashion marketing and branding course, I'm studying Graphic Arts :) I think it's a good campus, there are just downsides to it being in Winchester.
Is there any racism?
Yeah there's racism everywhere
