I just got fired from Target over a small incident with an angry customer and hours they gave me that I was not aware of. I was a quiet and kind worker with everyone and they didn't appreciate it. If a union did exist I would of not been fired after just barely a week. Bunch of corporate scumbags.

I applied at target when I was 19 and interviewed and I didn't get the job. It was a blessing in disguise because when I got the call that I got rejected I was sad but then I applied, and interviewed, and got a heavy machinery job for the city I'm living in. I started out as a digger, then traffic controller, and eventually I got that heavy machinery operator job... And today I make great money great benefits doing easy working and I'm a heavy machinery teacher and tester... And I'm also part of a union, so thanks target. :)

As a employee I have found that they almost always make me work 5 hours and 45 minutes or less if they can because if they have me work 6 or more they have to give me another 15 minute break and a unpaid 30 minute break.

How about capping health insurance costs or providing affordable health care for everyone? How about improving safety instead of ignoring it? On the way back from break, I was stopped by a customer in Plumbing who needed help finding something. I helped her, she bought the product she was looking for, and went away happy. It took about 3 minutes. When I got back to my department, my manager told me I was late from break. I explained that I was helping a customer in plumbing. He told me that I work in Electrical, not Plumbing, and threatened to "write me up" (whatever that means) if it happened again.

I don't work for Target but another company. Before the union was brought in I maybe got a 50 cent raise every few years. Since the Union came in I've had $3.00 raise in 2 years. Yeah, they charge 1.5x an hourly wage every 2 weeks. But this video has convinced me to tell the union to take a hike. I'll just go back to 8.75/hr instead of $12.35/hr. Who needs 'em. They didn't mention it here but the union also gets $500/employee from the company. I doubt they were thrilled about that. That's just my company. I don't about anywhere else.
Never worked at Target, but have been in a retail position before, and I can safely say it is not fun helping in departments you do not work in. Often I did not have the training or experience to work in that department, customers were less than understanding when I couldn't answer their question instantly, and it was more responsibilities thrown upon me for the same pay. It is not fun having to singlehandedly run multiple departments and sometimes that is what associates are expected to do. I would vote for a union just for that alone, just as John Oliver said.

I work for the drywall union and lemme tell ya, non union we had to fight for 2 dollars, while the owners kid just got hired on as a superintendent and gets a brand new truck. Unions are the only way to make a guaranteed nice living as an employee. My union dues are 35 dollars a month but I also make 50 dollars an hour, compared to 25 dollars an hour I used to make . 1 hour a month covers my dues.. I don’t even feel it .
Delta once put up signs about how a union will cost the worker 700 a year. What they didn’t say is unions increase pay significantly and would raise wages 700 a month. So even with dues you are still profiting. 😂

American Unions are weird. I work in a store in Australia, and we can work in any department we want. Not to mention they're still on the closed shop system
Unions do suck, but they fail to tell you the real reasons why. If they succeed in forcing the company to pay higher wages, those losses of profit will be pushed onto the customer in the form of price rises. They could even fire the staff and replace them with robots in the future.

They say everyone is cross trained but I'm not trained to do register. But my team lead says I need to be registered trained. And I keep telling them that I need to be registered trained. But they keep forgetting it or putting it off. I been there for almost 2 years of not being registered trained. And the open door policy does not work if it did I would be registered trained by now because I been open with them about training me for the register but it has not been done. Imo I think it's because the team leads have more things to worry about and they keep forgetting or whatever no it is.

No worker wants to pay dues for rights they already have. So go back to selling cheap goods at Target that were made in East Asian sweatshops where they have not yet acquired those same rights. I just want respect. Target listed a lot of reasons to have a union, but the only reason I want a union is so I can get respect. asset protection and the security manager work as professional intimidators. They tolerate no mistakes, use vulgar language and they discipline the employees so management won’t have to do anything. Target has the most effective method ever used in history to stomp out unions. Supervisors and Human Resources staff occasionally are demoted for a day to do entry level work when things get busy, so they have lunch with the regular small employees, they basically work as spies to stomp out any talk of a union. You can’t complain about supervisors because if you turn around you may see that their joining your lunch table. Everyone keeps to themselves and they hate new people. This job was so depressing I decided I’d rather go back to working at regular grocery stores where my co workers don’t want to snitch on me for a promotion.

Unions are a business like the corporation but the union also negotiates wages benefits and standard work conditions that government doesnt set out. Corporations lime this here would probably pay minimum wage and 3hr shift to not pay for breaks. Pros and cons
A union is a business which is why private sector workers should be free to join one or form their own independent or non-cross-company ones. A labor union for private sector workers is part of free enterprise. The only troubles have to do with mismanaged unions such as the ones led by corrupt executives or incompetent ones who got into power through nepotism. Also, the members need to be more active in electing better leaders.
Unions are bad because they value seniority (which is discrimination!!) But don't worry! Anyone can be a store manager! If you just work hard and stick at it for the next two decades... anything is possible!

I work for the drywall union and lemme tell ya, non union we had to fight for 2 dollars, while the owners kid just got hired on as a superintendent and gets a brand new truck.
Unions are the only way to make a guaranteed nice living as an employee.
My union dues are 35 dollars a month but I also make 50 dollars an hour, compared to 25 dollars an hour I used to make .
1 hour a month covers my dues.. I don’t even feel it .
Thank god mark dayton took the corporate suits out back and beat them behind the woodshed. Now they start out at $13 an hour nationwide

Delta once put up signs about how a union will cost the worker 700 a year. What they didn’t say is unions increase pay significantly and would raise wages 700 a month. So even with dues you are still profiting. 😂

So stupid....they seem to know all about the unions but don’t mention the higher pay, low cost or free health care, retirement pensions, a voice to not be treated unfairly or taken advantage of......I’ve work union, 99 UFCW & now Teamsters, way better that what a non union Target store will ever offer me

If they succeed in forcing the company to pay higher wages, those losses of profit will be pushed onto the customer in the form of price rises.
They could even fire the staff and replace them with robots in the future.

They say everyone is cross trained but I'm not trained to do register. But my team lead says I need to be registered trained. And I keep telling them that I need to be registered trained. But they keep forgetting it or putting it off. I been there for almost 2 years of not being registered trained. And the open door policy does not work if it did I would be registered trained by now because I been open with them about training me for the register but it has not been done. Imo I think it's because the team leads have more things to worry about and they keep forgetting or whatever no it is.
And of course cross training means more pay right?
Proud union 174!!! On a side note majority these retail store and fast food restaurants suck ass. Worked at target hated every bit of it. Got my CDL joined a union job. Five years later my car is paid off, own a home. Love unions!!!
No worker wants to pay dues for rights they already have. So go back to selling cheap goods at Target that were made in East Asian sweatshops where they have not yet acquired those same rights. The fact that you have to work at Target into your eighties because all of the good union-backed manufacturing jobs are gone either to automation (invested in with the surplus value they scraped from the employees they replaced) or sent overseas to the very factories producing the substandard products that you now drag across a laser scanner for $7 an hour. Until your job is replaced by a self-checkout machine, that is.

I just want respect. Target listed a lot of reasons to have a union, but the only reason I want a union is so I can get respect. asset protection and the security manager work as professional intimidators. They tolerate no mistakes, use vulgar language and they discipline the employees so management won’t have to do anything. Target has the most effective method ever used in history to stomp out unions. Supervisors and Human Resources staff occasionally are demoted for a day to do entry level work when things get busy, so they have lunch with the regular small employees, they basically work as spies to stomp out any talk of a union. You can’t complain about supervisors because if you turn around you may see that their joining your lunch table. Everyone keeps to themselves and they hate new people. This job was so depressing I decided I’d rather go back to working at regular grocery stores where my co workers don’t want to snitch on me for a promotion.

Unions are a business like the corporation but the union also negotiates wages benefits and standard work conditions that government doesnt set out. Corporations lime this here would probably pay minimum wage and 3hr shift to not pay for breaks. Pros and cons
A union is a business which is why private sector workers should be free to join one or form their own independent or non-cross-company ones. A labor union for private sector workers is part of free enterprise.
The only troubles have to do with mismanaged unions such as the ones led by corrupt executives or incompetent ones who got into power through nepotism. Also, the members need to be more active in electing better leaders.
I wonder what they are up to now.
