Yes, it does make a difference. The Dragonfly managed to fly 535 miles with a consumption of 75 miles to the gallon (16.5 miles to the litre) in a recent rally. It also makes folding the trike to go inside the car easier as well.
With the 9 litre tank you can stay in the air for 2.5 to 4 hours, with the 20 litre tank you can stay airborn for 5 to 8 hours depending on your weight. Cruise speed is 35 - 37 mph (56 to 60 kph)
I used to fly hang-gliders and cosmos trikes. This seems like it brings the two together well. I only wish I could afford one. A minimalistic two seater with retractible wheels would be tops.
Ah brilliant , cool video , brought a smile to my face , beceause with the wheels up i could see the DNA of the doodlebug underlying . The doodlebug lives on in spirit.
Yes, it soars very easily without the engine and is as easy to keep in the air as most contemporary hang gliders. Because of the automatic choke, engine restarts are just a press of the button, has to be the easiest microlight engine for starting.
The Target might just be able to support an 80 kg pilot with a no fairing Dragonfly and full fuel. I think the max payload for the reinforced Target 16 is 130 kg although this is not a tested figure. The wing would have to have the strengthening mods done to it: 3 mm side wires. Power uprights for the control frame. Reinforced keel and hang bracket. I believe all these are available from Aeros. If they are, Flylight can get them for you.
if you go to flylight's web site, given at the end of the film, and go into Flexwings on the menu bar and then Dragonfly, you can then see all the prices and ordering information.
@superjezz lol no I wish! I am a speed freak however and things sticking out from your plane train or automobile create drag and slow you down. increase fuel consumption ect.
Good idea with this wheels coz better areodynamic, but looks better with three wheels out in air. Anywah this is slow aircraft so don`t need good aerodynamic, Anyway 5 stars for the music. Ave Maryja
A propellor behind the pilot is a dangerous design. The trajectory of a broken propellor is forward. It could cut the pilot or the cable of the glider and cause a crash. Put the propellor in front of the nose of the glider is better.
Disproportionate battery weight for such a light aircraft. Also, electric aircraft are not all that silent.A surprising amount of noise comes from the prop.
I have 2 questions: 1) Does retracting the wheels make a considerable efficiency difference taking into account the rear LG strut and wheels are thin and small enough to begin with. 2) Is there any chance that retracting the tail LG would get ever stuck? Looks like there is not much damping on the rear LG. I think I would rather have the rear LG permanently there to minimize crash landing risk if Option 2 does indeed ever happen. I'm not nuch for style when it compromises safety.
I would like one of these to fly down to the Kentucky Derby convention with some friends in Indianapolis Motorcycle clubs for fun. It looks we would have a lot of fun. it would be an interesting investment for a flying club hear in Indianapolis as the first flying innovation to the 500 trike sports club. GO, Moore
Hello Ben, I am the Belgian who Visiten you in your plant more than 10 years ago. I was interested in your motorised deltas. Now I am retired 6 years ago and left paralysed due to a stroke. So trikeflying I can forget I suppose, even if I can use only my right hand to steer. My left foot I can use for 50% ; I can bike again, but My left hand stays completely paralysed. What can you advise me? Thanks
I want to learn to fly one, then buy one, then fly around the uk, then fly around europe, then fly around Australia and then the world! Now how much would this cost me?
While your waiting for the cad files for the Dragonfly to arrive, give Bill Gates a call, ask him to send over the Windows code,I'm going to make my own operating system for all my friends and family, thanks in advance, tell Bill, thanks too.
The music was probably the best way to describe that experience!
Absolutely awesome. I want to learn to fly an ultralight so much. Ultimately, I'd love to own a Dragonfly.
Agree with your sentiments.
Absolutely beautiful - both the Dragonfly and the whole video. I think I will become a dragonflier in the future :-)
This is one of the best videos I have seen in TH-cam!! Thanks
wow nice! I never though I'd see a trike with retractable gear :D

KEEP IT SIMPLE.. clean, nice design, just what one want to take off oan fly... :)
beautiful thank you

I am pretty sure it's a regular hand thrown parachute, similar to parachutes used with hang gliders and paragliders.
ingeniuos little trike...very clever engineering
Trike should be electric, It´s time to go silent. It can be done now. Fantastic !
Great video, very cool
Qu']Allah [ protège cette femme pilote .......👍💌🇩🇿
Nice one, Had a look at these at the NEC.....I want
The plane is the Dragonfly by Flylight Airsports Ltd.
The contact details are at the end of the video.
@superjezz im sure it does make a difference even if it just 20 % less drag= longer flight time less wind buffeting and so on.
if you go to flylight's web site, given at the end of the film, and go into Flexwings on the menu bar and then Dragonfly, you can then see all the prices and ordering information.
Prices are on Flylight Airsports Ltd web site.
Address is on the film.
Go to the flexwing part of the site.
Thank you.
great video and Bach is the best

VERY BEAUTIFULL............... THIS IS .......ICARO DREAM..............

Yes you do need a pilot's license for the UK.
Wow is very nice
don't forget to put the gear down. lovely trike!
@stodd32 Not really, they just go up to make them look better to a potential buyer, "look at our product, it does this fancy thing".
Looks small, but if one likes it, that's good.
We have, go and look at the film on the electric version, just type in e-dragon and you will see it.
A propellor behind the pilot is a dangerous design. The trajectory of a broken propellor is forward. It could cut the pilot or the cable of the glider and cause a crash. Put the propellor in front of the nose of the glider is better.
Love how the landing gear goes up. how much is it?(in american dollars)
love it. Any improvement in this flying technology?
Electric flight is the future. Right now, energy density and cost of the batteries are the limiting factors.
its nice if you attach it with an Atos so you can thermal.
Yep, OK , you got me there.
Why do you lift the wheels do they put that much drag on it just wondering great video

nice design.. what do you do, if you run out of battery? can you land on your feet?
Does the landing gear really add enough drag to warrant the weight of the electric servos and other extra parts?
Do you get that much drag that folding wheels make that much difference?
Cheers?
Hitman BloodMoney themesong,i like it..
yes great video, sort that music Ben

what if those retractable undercarriage is stuck and you have to land...
where can I get one like the one on 2:10 red , I live in California .....
Donatillo Arteaga did you buy one?
How much money and where can you bye one
How much money is on of those
I want to learn to fly one, then buy one, then fly around the uk, then fly around europe, then fly around Australia and then the world! Now how much would this cost me?
Actually, I have done it 5 times now and still not damaged the plane or burned my butt.
It is very much an anti climax.
up up and away
Those are Ultra Light Trikes
What happens if the wheels won't come back down?

where can you buy those i want one!!!
Comes off at about 25 mph.
@6bettyboo9 You obviously bought one then?....
Give me the web how do I buy it,thanks
At what speed does it get off the ground?
How far can you fly..or how long can you fly on one tank of gas?
Qto custa ?
While your waiting for the cad files for the Dragonfly to arrive, give Bill Gates a call, ask him to send over the Windows code,I'm going to make my own operating system for all my friends and family, thanks in advance, tell Bill, thanks too.
@6bettyboo9 No it doesn't.
following regulation, ultralight category aircrafts have to have a fixed landing gear have not they?
What's the point of having a retractable landing gear here?
Drag reduction with retractable landing gear is insignificant at these speeds, but they look cool!
Very nice! Is this a 103 legal vehicle?
Thanks
Bob
Yes.
so did you have to have a private pilots licence for this? or did you just have some flying lessons or?
the video was good. put the music did not match with the flight.
Nelson
Send please drawings of your "dragonfly" I want to make it
lemme guess, you'd rather him played justin bieber in the video?
Musica da funeral...
O video é muito bom mais a musica......em nome do pai do filho e do espirito santo........rsrsr
