For the final battle when you're Oni, you're supposed to be using the dodge mechanic to quick-step sideways and keep up the fire rate, while also quick-stepping back when the statue tramples forward. You're not meant to actually run, it's why Oni's dodges are so much quicker and in rapid succession. You can also auto-fire the gun a whole lot faster.
