I was just going through the Lockdown playlist, listening to a few favorites and then this one came up....and suddenly, I am missing my wife, who passed away Nov 30, 2022, from COVID-related causes. The song captures what it felt like, so beautifully. Thank you.

I love this group, but the Tom Waits version is the one I want played at my memorial service after I die. The song has special meaning to me . . . "Clouds are like headlines on a new frontpage sky..." I was a newspaper reporter for several years before quitting that and becoming a U.S. Coast Guard licensed captain, a job I did for more than 20 years which included sailing across the Atlantic in '91. Now, at 78 years old I live anchored full-time on a small sailboat off Anna Maria Island, Florida

I'm sure all we ukesters look forwards each week to the next in this series of lockdown performances. Must also say, all the individual tours of personal collections of ukes is proving to be really interesting. Many thanks to everyone concerned - including Doug and Laura. This is such a delight! I love the extra visual effects by little hands just barely offscreen, waving fish, birds, ships and some sort of sea monster. Lovely voice, Hester! Loved seeing your daughter during the "water's my daughter" line. Even now that the lockdowns are over, it's a wonderful and lighthearted rendition of a soulful song.
Hester does a fantastic job with this Tom Waits classic. The arrangement as with all the Ukes covers, adds something very special and unique to a well known track. It's hard to define what they do, but whatever it is, the song instantly becomes a UOGB number, rather than a cover version. I'd love to know who does the arrangements, as they always seem to hit the right note!

She has told me that she wants this at her funeral sometime, hopefully distant in the future. So there were no dry eyes left after hearing this. Stay safe and keep up your fabulous work! I've lost count of the number of times I've played this, everything about it is just brilliant. Hester's singing, the musical arrangement, the special effects :-) and a great song from Tom Waits combine to produce 4 minutes of absolute joy.

My initial reaction was "Oh what silliness", but my funnybone quickly turned to tears, thinking about all the effort it took to put this together, and of how much all that silliness meant to so many. ---I'm adding my Thanx for this visit.
When the tune opened, I began to grin. By the end the smile wouldn’t leave my face. Thank you for making my day bright. My world better. And making me a kid again, if only for a few minutes. It. Means. So . Much!!!
The first time I saw you perform was in kufstein in Austria in a fire station, it was freezing cold but we had an amazing time. They played this song and I have loved it ever since. What joy you bring!
