This brought a smile to my face, these people were fantastic this is the most original version of Silver Machine I've heard, thank you for making this old fart smile.
I saw Hawkwind at the Paget Rooms in Penarth. This song was about the only song I remember as I got zonked staring at the strobes and woke up later still staring at the strobes! That's my story and I'm sticking to it! Hearing the UKOGB doing it years later took me back to a hippy dippy era of fun and frolics; just like uke concerts always are. Thanks for keeping me relatively sane during lock down, but got to leave London to pick up my child in Durham ;) (as any responsible parent would).
As a lifelong Hawkwind fan can I say this is a truly epic performance. Dave brock and Robert Calvert would be very proud of this tribute. Made me laugh out loud and I particularly love the whooshing noises. 10/10 for effort chaps!
Thanks to you all I now have just bought a Ukulele , loved all your music but to hear Hawkwinds Silver machine a favorite group of mine, brought both a smile and a profound even bigger respect to you all ,brilliant :)
I appreciate all the artists who are putting out videos to help us through the lock down, but I haven't enjoyed any of them as much as yours. Thanks for the music!
My admiration for Dave increases each time I see him in a video. Everyone artist in this group is wonderful, but for me he stands out, just for being the fun guy.
Over the last 18 months these wonderful clips from UOGB have provided a very welcome escape. (I've found that they also go very well with 'Toyah and Robert's Sunday Lunch'). Thank you :)
Great stuff! And great fun! Came from Hawkwind and now have clicked through good part of your work here. Your are REAL ARTISTS, not allowing any stupid virus to prevent you from being creative ... the opposite. I bet when the virus will see this is will give up its mission. Thank you so much!
Hokay ! I feel the need to comment.. I've been subscribed for 8-9 years on TH-cam. Love pretty much everything. Liked, subscribed, and have hammered the hell outta that bell over the years. My Bonifides? I've a ukulele and an internet connection ! THIS video however: SILVER MACHINE ? I laughed and occasionally snorted so hard, that the Orchestra owes me a new keyboard ! Brilliant ! 'strong' golf clap, and kudos all around. Seriously....stupid funny. 'Hey boys and girls, what can you do on your day off during the pandemic?'
I love what you did. Talented group putting crazy but funny ways to sing and play Silver Machine! Peter, are you playing scarecrow in the field? Sorry Peter...I just can't help but notice.
This is one of the greatest things to come out of the pandemic. I don’t think I would have heard of Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain withouth these covers. Thank you! Keep up the great work of bringing joy to people and creating incredible impressive covers. (By the way, have you already done ”Smoke on the Water”? 🤘)
"Silver Machine" with a touch of "Hassan I Sahba" (if i'm not mistaken) In the introduction. That really was in the spirit of Hawkwind! Best arrangement i've heard you lot do of this tune. Maybe you should ask Dave Brock to guest on a Uke'.
Extremly intelligent and delightful music! Actually it was pure chance that a stubled across the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain. Usually I prefer Renaissance and Baroque music - Bach, Handel, Monteverdi, Schein, Scheidt, Schütz, Corelli, Sainte-Colombe (uups: seven strings) - and it was the Handel piece that caught my attention. Brilliant - simply brilliant, and of course some reminiscence of the music of my youth. So, to sum it up: intelligent, brilliant, delightful!
All these great videos, it's got me reminiscing on my 6 months in Newmarket, England, starting Oct. 1963 (I was 12, my father was in the USAF, stationed at Lakenheath). Lovely little town, we had a flat in what was the Carlton Hotel on High Street, walked a few blocks, around the roundabout to our bus stop for school, and would throw snowballs and jeer at the Alconbury bus as it went by. :-P We'd rented a TV and watched Fireball XL5. That was a fun show, and I still remembered the lyrics after all these years! Do you think you might ever go to Hilo, Hawaii to perform? The UH Hilo Performing Arts Center and the Palace Theater have had such wonderful performances - and I trust they will continue in the future, soon. How about Oregon? I don't like to go to Portland (don't like really big, crowded cities, or the driving there), but I would go to see you.
Erneut eine gelungene Darstellung, Performance des Ukulele Orchesters of Great Britain! Hoffe sie bald wieder in meiner Nähe Live sehen zukönnen. Bleibt gesund!! Grüße aus der Pfalz.
Lucky to have visit your konsert in Gävle before the Covid-19 came and locked us in, it was a great performance and your videos are just super. Keep on playing for us :)
The first time I saw UOGB (more years ago than I care to remember) was in Bury St. Edmunds... this was the opening track. I'd persuaded some friends to come along, slightly worried what they'd make of the ukes. By halfway through this opener they were hooked!
Awesome just the lift you need each week. The song is great the sound of the group is wonderful then then images of you all being a little ( or more) off the wall. There is so much going on you must watch it a few times to get it ..well the majority of it. Great work again . The first concert when you are all together will be magical. The lucky ones will remember it. I hope its Edinburgh!! Being selfish.. Thanks for the smiles. Keep well and safe.Amacf
The behaviour in the video looks to me, like a little tribute to the band "Hawkwind", celebrating their alternative approach to life and their psychedelic/science fiction stage shows....
@@UkuleleOrchestra I thought for just a second there that someone managed to make a uke out of an old bedpan and I thought, well, now I need a uke made out of an old bedpan.

That was fabulous. I'll be watching it again. Nice job. I really enjoy playing my ukulele and you all inspire me to work harder & get better in spite of carrying it around & not playing it. I know it's odd. 🤪 Be safe. 👍☮️🌞🦠😷
Abb - Soe - Lootly Brilliant. Best so far. When we're finally free of Covid, I hope the Ukes put on a tour which will include these fabulous versions of songs. Hopefully, by the time it's over, we won't be up to Lockdown Upload 30+. But they DO give us something to look forwards to every week and to wonder what they heck they're going to tackle next. Great job folks - wonderful. Now where's my silver tinsel . . . ????? Just had a thought, it would be fascinating to see a Ukementary about how these safely-distanced masterpieces are timed, recorded and then stitched together by Doug and Laura
If somebody's mentioned this, I admit I didn't read all the way down the comments, but nonetheless: look at 2:11 and 2:38 -- did the band know that the song is a tripped-out extension of an absurdist article about riding through space ... on a bicycle -- the titular silver machine? You could look it up! Those shots are instinctive brilliance in addition to the technical/conceptual brilliance of this video.
I watched Hawkwind do this live back whenever. I think that your version is probably better! Thank you again for the creative effort which keeps us entertained and puts a smile on our faces.
Finding you has placed the word Joyful back in my Lexicon. Much needed after being diagnosed with PTSD. I have just recommended you to my Grand children as 2 of them have or do play the Ukelele at school. Great cover of Silver Machine I could almost see Stacia dancing behind the lawnmower :-)
Well done! A jolly fine performance....Thoroughly enjoyed it! (Dave Brock, Hawkwind)
Pleased you enjoyed it, we definitely enjoy performing it. Great song!
