Rush Hour Trains at: Tamworth, WCML/XC Route, 12/08/22

- A superb evening spent at Tamworth on the West Coast Mainline and Cross Country route where we see countless services from Avanti West Coast, London Northwestern Railway, Cross Country and freight from Freightliner, GBRF, DB Cargo UK, Royal Mail and DRS.
Tamworth station was opened by the Birmingham and Derby Junction Railway in 1839. The station was built on the existing line connecting Derby to Hampton-in-Arden where the London and Birmingham Railway would be reached.
In 1847 the Trent Valley section of the West Coast Mainline was completed by the London and North Western Railway which allowed for a joint station to be constructed connecting the two lines.
In 1924 the station was given official low and High level names, this was because at the time of constructing the station hadn't been envisaged to have long distance trains stopping. It was built purely for local stopping trains at the time.
Tamworth has always been a fan favourite of train spotters and this rings true right through to when steam engines were thundering through the station. This was because at the time Tamworth was the closest station to Birmingham where you would be able to see the bigger steam engines giving it the full beans as they head north and south. Of course you still had the pulling power of the freight trains coming through across both levels. You would typically find them standing in a nearby field that is now sadly a large housing estate. But you still get great views from both levels of the station either way.
The old station was demolished 1961 and rebuilt in 1962 following the electrification of the Trent Valley Line, this in turn meant that the higher level platforms had to be raised up to give enough clearance.

Always nice to see a hst especially at speed, still looks great even at 47 years old if memory serves correct but they can't keep going forever. Also nice to see voyagers at speed haven't actually seen them 'giving it the beans' too often and a very nice variety of loco hauled trains, great video
This was one of my best visits to Tamworth without any doubt! There was so much variety to be seen along with the trains really giving it what for throughout!
11:46 I’ve seen this train before the next stop for this train would’ve been Lichfield Trent Valley this train doesn’t call at Crewe whatsoever after Lichfield this train continues to Warrington BQ

Sounds like your hat did the trick once again as there were great tones throughout the film, but my favourites were the 2-tone that 221133 gave at 12:17 and the 2-tone that 43357 gave at 34:22. Great stuff. Tamworth is always a good location for train watching although when you get to my age the steps to the high level platforms can feel very steep! Was any train on time and was this your 1st pigeon free video?

Hello Tornado922! I have to say Tamworth is a good place for catching high speed trains giving it the beans. It it always nice to visit this station, maybe next station can you go to Lichfield Trent Valley?

The freight train that you weren't completely sure of worked by the DB 60 was from to Kingsbury Oil Sidings from Humber Oil Refinery, so the Colas working with the 70 was from to Lindsey Oil Refinery from Kingsbury Oil Sidings. I think you also forgot to put Colas in the description box! Certainly a lot of variety it must be said! I reckon the Cross Country service that you said was going to Derby though was probably bound for Nottingham but cancelled in between Derby and Nottingham. Lucky that you got that service as the driver gave you a toot! I'm sure you won't mind a little bit of luck any day!

I think it may have been the noise coming from the bottom of the platform before the freight train went past. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
Nice one mate. Tamworth is a great station for a rush hour period great that you catch double 67s head to Wembley and a CrossCountry HST working 1E63 to Leeds 👍.

How can you see the numbers buddy
If he's using Realtime Trains, then it has the numbers for Avanti West Coast and CrossCountry services on the site. (Not to take anything away from his powers of eyesight though.)
@@thanostheclub I don't use real time trains for getting the train numbers when they are passing me. I only use RTT if a train has passed me and I need to double check on what the number of the passing train was. Other than that I just have incredibly good eyesight XD (sometimes)
