Beloved is one of the best classics I have ever read!! The chapter monologues from mother and daughters is some of the best literature I’ve read ❤️❤️❤️
@@kurlykaitlyn I recently finished sula and absolutely LOVED it. It made me sob like multiple times. She really is such an absolutely phenomenal writer. Can’t wait to read beloved
Ah, I felt that way about On the Road too - I only gave it 3 stars but it lives in my head rent free. I’ve since read The Dharma Bums and loved that. There’s something really meditative about Kerouac’s writing.
@@jay_poet good to hear that you enjoyed the dharma bums! I’ve been interested in potentially picking something else up by him but don’t know where to start. Big Sur Had my attention but would you recommend the Dharma Bums??
@@mckenziekate Absolutely! It’s more philosophical than OTR I think, with some really beautiful writing and a bit less dude-bro. Big Sur sounds amazing too.
I felt the same when I read "On the Road", but it has stayed with me. Now I need to reread it. I have been wanting to, but I also have lots of books to get to. The dilemma is real.
Hello! A book I've recently read and rated five stars is Poor Deer by Claire Oshetsky. I'm awful at summarizing, so I just recommend you look up the synopsis yourself, but it's such a quiet yet emotional novel about guilt and forgiveness. Beautiful, beautiful book. A book that gives me similar feelings is What Beauty There Is by Cory Anderson. It's also another quiet yet stunning book, and I wish both of them were more popular.
@@mm34815 thank you for the recommendation! I read chouette by Claire oshetsky a few years ago and adored it so I will definitely have to check out poor deer!
Yes, mental health needs to be foregrounded more often, doesn't it? We need to be honest about vulnerability without being melodramatic, a difficult balance at times. I often write & vlog about it on my channel. Poetry is my first love, after my ex-racer, rescue greyhound - so much to love.
@@apoetreadstowrite yes it absolutely does. I will have to check out your channel as it sounds very interesting ⭐️ I hope you are having a beautiful day
@@mckenziekate I wanted to read like 5 books this summer, while taking a summer class, practice 1 hour of Spanish a day, get a summer job and watch an old movie once or twice a week. The first thing I did was get sick for a month though, aghhhhhhhhh! I’m still bitter about that, I really fell off omg
@@mckenziekate I actually am, but it’s so hard to get myself motivated now that I’ve wasted so much time lol. I’m reading Plato’s the Republic right now though, then I want to read Pedro Paramo by Juan Rulfo and maybe one more book idk. I need to get back on my movie grind though, but I think being in college is just going to help a lot with that. Do you have any recommendations for classics to read?
@@cassiopeiathew7406 wow! How are you getting on with the republic? I have been wanting to dive into that as well. I did a very shallow reading of it about three-four years ago and didn’t retain much of anything haha And omg it IS hard to get back in the swing of things after taking time off but I believe in you haha just a little bit every day to build the habit. And Middlemarch by George Eliot is my favorite book so if ur feeling it I would definitely recommend that one. Also, plays can be a great place to start. The orestia is phenomenal in my opinion. ⭐️
