      Hi, Gary. Put me in for second place! Question,. I don't have old soil or fish emulsion. I planted my seeds in Coco coir & worm castings. Can I water with worm casting tea instead? I have that!

    I'm now going down the coco coir rabbit hole and I've learned that not all coco coir is made/sold the same way.
    So it's entirely possible to add some bad coco coir to your soil (or make new soil with it) and harm your plants.
    Unfortunately, I don't know if there's a way to know this beforehand, but based on what people are saying, they do recommend good brands and higher cost coir as a possible way to avoid that. In other words, if you found some cheap brand or product of coco coir, there might be a reason for it.

    Get information! I just got some coco coir and I’m excited to use it! I heard that I need to wash it and with certain water? Do you have any tips?

      When purchasing the coco coir check if it's been already washed by the manufacturer. Usually quality coco coir mix are triple washed, low EC and the PH, and they usually provide a data sheet about the product itself with all these information and more.
      If you don't have any of this info provided it's probably a cheap product and to be sure you'll have to wash multiple times by yourself, and also sterilize it with boiling water.
      I've purchased Coco and Coir products, they sell different kind of sizes and version of coco coir blocks to be rehydrated.
      They provide all the info about their product.
      Actually, I'm about to use it for the first time today :)

    What about drainage? Do I need to add perlite?

    • @pershop4950
      @pershop4950 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      if you were starting with just the coir, you can add perlite. in the case of this video, Gary adds it to some existing old potting mix.

    I killed my 12 tomato seedlings when I used a 50:50 mix with this stuff. The plants completely wilted and died within 2 days. My 1 st aid attempts were useless. Now with about 10 bricks Im afraid to use this without hearing from others success with it.
