Hi Ron thanks a bunch for the motorcycle tire info, I've been wondering about that for a long time. We have a 1968 Bombi SW-48 with the snowplow, It's been sitting for a while now waiting for me to finish other projects. It has the original flathead ford, someone made nice aluminum doors for it and it has new track belts. I picked up the electronic ignition kit and new coil for it as I was having issues with the coil. We also got two new sprockets off a guy in Montreal as well as a new brake band, this doesn't sound fun to replace. ha ha. I noticed that when I came across the cycle tire size being 150/80B16. Do you know what the B stands for as it doesn't come up when I search for that size? Thanks again and cheers from Iron Rock Nova Scotia population about 7 he he he he he haw!
MMM? I am not sure about the B, keep me up to date on the brake band project I have to do it sometime or if at all? post some videos on your channel? good luck, hope all is well in Nova Scotia! Covid would not be good with a population of 7 (:
@@sizzlersshop Hi, Sorry I don't follow you? Finally, I could take the whole spindle carriage from my father's old trailer so I did not change the spindle itself. Also, as far as I can remember, officially you need a press of 80 tons to change the spindle and I have access to only 20 tons... But I got MANY parts from Prinoh in Grandby.
Well. I didnt know you could change a J5 with one of those tire changers. I have one. But never tried it. Great! Also what kind if inner tube would you use? One from a motorcycle as well?
+Rhyan Matthews Ya it will work, be ready for a work out, I have used a motorcycle tube. I did this on a Sunday and I had to use one from tractor supply www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/traveller-implement-inner-tube-400-500-15-16-with-tr-15-valve-stem?cm_vc=-10005 I have two of this type on the J5, seems to work ok.
+Rhyan Matthews the bombardier B12 is in the same family, check this out go down 2 or 3 pages of the page and the manual says 30 to 35. I would think you would have problems with that? I am running 45 until others tell me different. www.northerntracks.com/forum/index.php?topic=42.0
I changed mine by hand not using any other device than a couple of spoons. I bought 2 motorcycle tires. Gonna buy 2 more. Size id 120/90 16. Anything wider might cause problems. Factory tires look like 90/90 16. Couldnt find anything cheap in those sizes. Cant find where the track splits so I did it with the track on and loosened. Hard on the body is right.
Do you have extra tubes.? And tires for spares?
I have a brand new belt for a J-5. I think it's 1/2" holes. Would have to check.
the ties are motorcycle tires and tubes are off the shelf.
also need to know if its possible to remove tires without removing the track. thanks. great vid
Yes you can? and I have its just hard you your body, still have to loosen track, not fun as you can see (:
Normal stock tires run 100 psi.
Not sure how these hold up at that pressure .
Carrying a Spare is maybe a good plan.
Ya I am running 40 psi

Hi, Have you ever replaced a spindle? Thanks.
I have not, looks to be a pain to do.
Do they have spindles? Mine has bearing races inside each wheel and the bearings fit snug on a straight shaft. No taper, no spindle.

I thought these all had solid rubber tires?
Yes very hard rubber but they do take a tube, a pain to change.
wood it b a good idea to foam fill em or not?
Not a bad Idea, have to look into it. Thanks.
what size are the tires?
thanks
150/80B16 Motor cycle tires, I was told that they would work, I have 4 of them on the J5, seem to work fine.

+Rhyan Matthews All I could find online was 35 but I run 45.
