Had about 200 hours when I got in a 44 for the first time. Took about 50 hours to stop rocking it a bit in the hover due to those damn (practically zero feedback) hydraulics. Did my last BFR in an R44 Cadet. First time in one of those. Glass cockpit, air conditioning, really nice chopper.
Good video and getting back to the basics! I will definitely incorporate the landing before turning 90 degrees into my student’s Square Pattern work. Gavin can make any student feel comfortable flying the R44!
for now i just have a flight simulator .... with a Xbox gamepad 😅 and i am a full beginner ! i'm trying to hover and for now, i can't even succeed to keep it stable but i'm convinced this is a pretty good challenge, to be able to hover and maneuver a helicopter with just the fingers.
Great stuff, and excellent advice about practicing the square pattern with all the pick ups and set downs. Love it!
Thank you Amy!
Great lessons! Awesome footage and updates to HOGS!

Love the new videos and the hover pattern work is such a benefit to students👍🚁
Not just students! I’m a current PPL(H) and still devour stuff like this, especially as it’s so well done.
Thanks for the feedback! Your correct, this is great for anyone wanting to hone their hover skills!
Great stuff Kenny and fantastically clear footage. 👍Gavin sounds like a great instructor too.
Thank you Stu! Gavin is very laid back and articulate! I will definitely fly with Gavin again!

Glad it was helpful!
in Abbotsford we have a figure 8 which is really fun to go around in circles at very low altitudes

Use to tell my students , delicately hold the cyclic (no death grip) and just ‘think’ the direction you want to go, no large control inputs…………relax
That's a great tip, thanks for sharing!
Fly R 44 it feels like Bell 47........ !
Thanks for the feedback.
