First time seeing this bow and I’m super impressed with all the stuff they’ve thrown in there, restringing it in the field, sharpening broadheads, broadheads wrenches, bow hanger, carry handle, that would be insane if big brands like Hoyt and Mathews incorporated stuff like that instead of 700 dollar stabilizers
I've got this bow! I shoot at 70 pounds with a 480 grain arrow and the performance is still there, I get between 330 to 340 FPS. I love this bow and I can't say enough about APA, they even sent me a free camera mount and free carry bag, I was late getting my warranty card back to them and they still gave me my warranty, super nice people man. So, if you can afford it and you are looking to get a new bow check them out, you won't regret it!
Do you think its really doable to get this as a 1st compound bow like he says in the video? Or is that just asking for trouble? I can shoot a 70lb recurve just fine. No idea what to expect from a compound though since I have only ever fired half a dozen shots from one. I also haven't even held a compound bow in around 20 years. I just dont want to waste money on something i will only want to upgrade from later. Could this bow be something I could shoot exclusively and just hold onto for decades?
@@alexcrowder1673 100 percent you can get this bow as a first bow. In fact, if someone had the money to spend on a bow like this, I would certainly encourage it. I think you can get this bow as low as 55lbs draw weight, so you don't have to get it at 70 pounds. I believe if you get it at 55 pounds you can call them to get a module to increase the pounds as you get used to it, but you would have to call and double check on that. It also has a 80% let off, so once you get to the back of the draw you're not holding back the full 70 pounds. It is very user-friendly, very easily tuned. If you're not very knowledgeable with tuning a bow, they have a youtube channel that can walk you through all the tuning. And the ability to be able to lock the cams is very valuable because you don't need to take it to a bow shop and have them put it on a bow or you don't have to spend money on a bow press yourself. So changing the strings, moving the D loop, or changing out your peep sight is super easy. It's such a high quality bow I'm telling you, unless you're a person who just wants the latest and greatest thing on the market, you will never look at this bow and say I need a new bow. I can't look at this bow and say, "I wish this bow had this or that." Maybe someone can look and find something that I can't but as far as I'm concerned, this will be the last bow I'll ever need.
When I was younger I loved heavy poundage and yes it takes practice. You are correct if you fatigue yourself chasing elk you would have trouble drawing 60#. The whole mountain climbing experience is a full year training just for cardio. As I have had many injuries and gotten older not sure I want to shoot 80# even though my bow trips at 82#. But watching you shoot has made me want to try a new King Cobra. What I learned on lighter poundage bows you need to be accurate on your range finder. The longer yardage shots you have to avoid because of lack of energy. awesome review
Prob the best review of this brute I've watched. Back in 2018 I shot a 150 plus buck with a 70 lb, 100 grain expandable setup. A hard quartering shot forward at 15 yards . He shook it off and walked away . Went back next morning tracked spot blood for 200 yards. backed out for 6 hours , went back added another 300 yards. That encounter and loss led me to NAP FOC 170 grain 3 inch 2 blade expandable broadheads. That led me to find the most powerful bow to shoot a heavier arrow . Have had a 80 lb KC since 2019 . 23 deer, 2 coyotes , 2 turkey later as of Nov 29 22 and I wouldn't change a thing. That KC is launching 470 grain's at 322-324 fps net through chrono. Best advice for owning this thing is to get everything set perfect ( sight in ) etc. Know your ability with it and then set it in the corner like that 30-06 rifle because just like that 30-06 , it aint fun to shoot so sight it in , don't draw down until your ready to shoot ( within 10 seconds ) and watch that 170 grain FOC smash through whatever you aimed at. I've never lost a deer since. Those FOC's have 2 thick blades and NAP says they are for crossbows but whatever . Only broken 2 heads { a blade each } out of 27 game kills. That's pretty dang good Imo. Just sharpen the blades and keep rocking. The power, devastation and short recoveries are addictive especially on late afternoon hunts when you don't want to be tracking in the dark. Is it fun to shoot ? nope. Does it get the job done ? extremely well. Just some insight from someone who's hunted and fed this monster since 2019 season.

He’s really taken off with Dr. Ashby’s studies on heavy arrows, extreme FOX, and their penetration with 2 blade single bevel fixed heads. You’ll learn that you don’t need 80 or 90 lbs to get extreme penetration. Then you can actually enjoy your bow and shoot more to ensure well placed shots.
This is a bow for a big strong man. Such a nice review. You are brave to shoot 80 pound speed bow. No wonder on the chrono you had different numbers . This is the real beast . If you want the most power and speed this is it . 350 feed per second at 450 grain arrow is super fast. I like how you shot 335 with 500 grain arrow.

I’m keen to try this bow as I have a really short DL of 26-26.5. I live in Saskatchewan so I plan to go to biggar in the next few months and try one out.
I really want to hit the triple digit gang someday with a 100#’er. So I’m fairly certain I’m gonna order this bow this year with 80 # limbs, and order a set of 90’s and 100’s spare. When I think I can go up, I’ll add 10 until I get to 100. Right now I shoot a Bowtech rpm 360 at 70 with 718 grain darts. They are by far the best shooting arrows I’ve ever used. Sirius Orion 200’s with 370 grain insert/point. I had a hit on the Rinehart 100 steel buck last year at 60, the shaft survived and I just had to replace the insert/point.
Hey Brandon! Love the content!. I'm new to compound bow archery. Very interested in APA. It would be really cool if you could do a vid on setting up both the black mamba and the king cobra. Like an unboxing with setup.
I started shooting an 80lb Xpedition X30 last year and I was amazed at how smooth it was.. The draw was very close to my Triax at 70lbs.. So I decided to hunt with it since I could get that 515gr to over 290fps. Granted the BH is 6.25" so not as short as that beast you are shooting. I'm getting around 295fps with a 515gr arrow at 29"DL.. I also shot all my 3D shoots with that bow last year. Zero shoulder issues, but getting some back pain that I'm pretty sure is coming from it so I'm switching back to a 70lb for my 3D's this year. You can hear the power difference in an 80lb bow and especially that one you reviewed. Great review man!
Sad...my 100lb King cobra got cracked limbs and stuck upper axle after only less than 1500 shots. Shot 680 grain arrows and never dry fired. Asked my local bow shop to communicate with APA and hopefully they can fix the problem. Now I got Hoyt VTM 34 with 80lb draw weight...draw effortlessly like a toy compared to 100lb king cobra

I'm getting a 110lb from them i think she said for custom i could if im not mistaken, I'll let you know. I mainly shoot 107lb longbows. My 84lb elite energy feels like a kids bow these days. My lightest arrow is 688 grains though. Moose I use 950 grain setups. I appreciate your review though overall helped me verify I'm getting one. But you also got to remember the average compound bow hunter is fat, weak, and lazy these days. Back in the day men were half the size and pulling 150lb and 200lb war bows. I'm impressed by that crap. I haven't got a chance to see if I can do a 200lb war bow lol.
@@BackyardBows it's not required to have a bow of 100lbs to shoot big game animals but if you make less then a perfect shot or hit ribs, or shoulder, or some bone that's when its nice to have a heavy fix blade arrow with some lbs behind it.
I had a KC handful of years ago. Shot it at 50# that was a great setup. I live in the west, hunt the west and shoot 60# all you need. Guys need to really think about these newer speed bows and go lighter DW. Unless your heading to the Dark continent.
Check out Ranch Fairy and the Dr. Ed Ashby studies. You don’t need all this gruesome weight to get excellent penetration on very large game. There are people shooting under 50# and getting full penetration on Cape buffalo. There’s a reason all these major bow manufacturers aren’t developing bows with blazing speeds. They’ve been there, done that. It’s not worth the tuning issues, shoulder problems, etc. Bowtech made the RPM 360 a few years ago. It didn’t last long and they were back to the 330-340 fps range. This isn’t some new breakthrough technology on this bow. It’s old technology with extreme reflex risers and very short brace heights. Add a few gimmicky things to it that increases the noise and vibration and here we are.
I find the same thing with APA... they feel like the old Hoyts from 2010 ish. They don't like sitting still. When I switched to PSE this year... I was in awe at the valley haha.
Would be cool to see what the speeds are if you back the 80# down to 70#. We've done that with several of my 80s and the efficiency and performance is still there, usually loose about 10-15 fps for the 10lbs on mine. Great video, keep doing them 👍

It takes a while to get used to the pull back when I come back from break after the bow season for whitetail. But I'm willing to put up with it for all the stuff they offer with the bow! I hope this bow gets the recognition it deserves.
Thanks for the reviews! Being from Alberta I really wanted to buy an APA to support local, but shooting it next to a ventum pro it became a no brainer to buy the Hoyt. I really like the concept of APA, but they’re just not very fun to shoot. The comfort and performance of the VP blew it out of the water IMO

I had the 2020 king cobra 70 pound and my PSE xpedite was way faster testing them side.by side and the apa always lost its tune it was a pain to tune got rid of it
Guys, I‘m about 6,4 185 and pretty strong. I got a draw lenght of 30,5 to 31 but this bow only has like a 30 draw lenght. Would you say its possible to do something about it?
I don’t ever see myself drawing that much weight but I have always been curious about it, I see myself going the other way in the future maybe 65 lbs eventually
@Backyard Bows like for minute or two? You're holding nearly 30 lbs in the back wall. So probably more of snap shot like a recurve if you got good at it. It would be interesting to see what would happen if you dedicated a 6 months to shooting it. I never liked the full throttles short valley though, and it really is not that fun to shoot compared to comfort bows. The Mathew Safari at 85lbs is so much nicer than the Kjng Cobra as a bow....
You don't ever need that sort of poundage or speed. I bet when you are jacked up on adrenaline and fatigue you won't make a good shot. A smooth drawing 60-70lb bow will blow a hole in anything. The secret is whats up front and a correct arrow weight. He calls it brutal and rough. Not for me ever.
Good looking bow but not ideal for the average person. Everything I see about the draw cycle is terrible! Bow needs let off adjustment and twin limb for me to even consider.
What a disservice of a review. Arrow speeds all over the place because you were so overbowed, you could not even settle into the wall and stabelze before the shot. Should have done at 70 and generated some useful info. In relation to the bm31 and other bows.
Disservice would be telling the consumer this is a pleasant, smooth, comfortable bow. The speeds give u a general picture which is all that’s needed when your well over 300fps. The bow is what it is. And I would say they are lucky I didn’t order a 90lb limb I settled with a reasonable /realistic option. If your going to advertise something I’m going to review it.

There are crossbows that won’t even touch this bow. I’m sure you can shoot any broadhead with a 80 pound king cobra.

Sounded like a professional tennis serve, I have friends who will shoot 3d with lower draw weights and then bump it up come season

I shoot a much slower bow at 80# and it blew through a deer. Absolutely overkill. Never found the arrow.

I shoot a 80lb black mamba 33 with 32in draw. They are speed demons 400taw is doing 360 my hunting setup is 630taw doing 296.

@@sascha20706 usually bows with a longer axle to axle (which iOS the measurement from center cam to center cam) will allow for longer draw lengths

What was the hand shock like from this thing? That’s one of the main complaints I’ve seen about APA over the years.
Definitely feel the vibration, think I anticipated more with it being 80lbs, both Apa bows ove reviewed there is a little aftershock
There are easy 80lb bows, and then there is the King Cobra at 80lb, totally different experience....

@Backyard Bows like for minute or two? You're holding nearly 30 lbs in the back wall. So probably more of snap shot like a recurve if you got good at it. It would be interesting to see what would happen if you dedicated a 6 months to shooting it. I never liked the full throttles short valley though, and it really is not that fun to shoot compared to comfort bows. The Mathew Safari at 85lbs is so much nicer than the Kjng Cobra as a bow....
If you had to choose between the king cobra and Elites Omnia? Which one of the two was quieter?

You don't ever need that sort of poundage or speed. I bet when you are jacked up on adrenaline and fatigue you won't make a good shot.
A smooth drawing 60-70lb bow will blow a hole in anything. The secret is whats up front and a correct arrow weight.
He calls it brutal and rough. Not for me ever.

Good looking bow but not ideal for the average person. Everything I see about the draw cycle is terrible! Bow needs let off adjustment and twin limb for me to even consider.
What a disservice of a review. Arrow speeds all over the place because you were so overbowed, you could not even settle into the wall and stabelze before the shot. Should have done at 70 and generated some useful info. In relation to the bm31 and other bows.
Disservice would be telling the consumer this is a pleasant, smooth, comfortable bow. The speeds give u a general picture which is all that’s needed when your well over 300fps. The bow is what it is. And I would say they are lucky I didn’t order a 90lb limb I settled with a reasonable /realistic option. If your going to advertise something I’m going to review it.
@@BackyardBows this reply shows you're a class act. 👍 After the holidays, I'll be shooting my #65 King Cobra DG at about 58-60#. The ease of set up was a big plus for me.
