- Spend the day with me in Newmarket as we join Kanane Francis, a jockey who I first interviewed back in 2021! We follow his day in the life of a jockey as he rides three sets of horses and gives us an insight into his life in racing. Isn't he just. I'm so glad we got the GoPro footage, it really gives an insight into how he is with the horses.
I got into racing a similar way to Kanane, being from Birmingham, no experience in a yard, turning up to the racing school full of fear. It’s so true how he says that there’s a job for anyone in racing, doing all sorts of stuff. Once you’re inside racing you meet so many people from so many backgrounds, rarely born into it. The wider media does a horrible job on highlighting it so I hope a video like this can help more people have a go.
Thank you so much for sharing, this is so lovely to hear. I think you're absolutely right, I was worried people would be upset that I even made this video, but I do think it shows a different side to the industry and that not everyone is how the media portrays racing to be

Really enjoyed this video Rhi 😁 Kanane seems a really genuine and grateful young man. He came across and showed how much he loves the horses he rides and enjoying his experience at the yard he's at. I wish him well and it would be great if you could film his first ever race 😁
Living in Cambridgeshire I have been lucky enough to see some of the horses being exercised on the gallops and it is well worth seeing. Also visiting the Stud farm in March time to see the new foals that have been born into the racing world.
