    I just found one of these being thrown away. It's a 130 but a bit longer. The viewed had a lens missing it looked like the sun had melted it and it had dropped out. A year earlier a friend of mine was throwing away an old rusty telescope and he gave me the eyepiece. I cleaned the mirrors, they are far from perfect but the new eyepiece made it work. Pretty impressive!

    A little known fact you might be interested in if you are not aware of it. At 13:36 you show a shot of your lens cover. On the cover there are two knob looking sort of things. This is for looking at the Moon and possibly Venus. It reduces the aperture down greatly so the Moon is not so bright in your eye. You remove the cover from the top knob and you can stick it on the bottom knob so you don't lose it.

    • @reviewsbydave8417

      Hi Rod, glad you watched it, it's usual for the image to be upside down, some lenses are desinged to correct that so the 20mm one is designed this way. perhaps you were using a stronger lense at the time. You can order an erecting eye peice from Amazon which when combined with a lense flips the image back by 180 deg. better for terrestrial viewing. For the motor I'm unsure as not used one as yet, try this chaps video th-cam.com/video/ya_F6mmD7fE/w-d-xo.html

      I had 2 disks one was just the instruction in electronic format the other was a good software for PC - Starry Night Application that seems quite good, I need to do a video on it really as its quite in depth. Mine was a UK release scope so not sure if they always come with it.

      Just below the back of your telescope should be a bolt you can turn on a long screw, turn that clockwise (lift the front up gently to help) you should be able to raise the front back up to the sky. (Its the equatorial mount screw at the back).

    Hello,
    Watched both reviews on this particular series. Great!
    I'm planning to buy one,but bit confused between astromaster 114eq and 130eq.
    One confusing specification is the greater focal length of 114eq.
    Please guide.
    Thanks.

    • @adilshah7844
      @adilshah7844 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      114 (mm) = 4.5 inch, 130 = 5 inch. The bigger, the better. I got the 130, coming today. Can't sleep...lol. EQ stands for equatorial mount.

      They are both very good telescope - The FOCAL LENGTH is effectively the length of the telescope. It is measured as the distance from the main optic to the point where the image is formed. A short focal length will give a wide field of view but the objects in the field of view will appear small. A long focal length will give a narrow field of view (small area of sky) but the objects in view will appear larger. Short focal lengths are best for looking at star fields and larger objects. Long focal lengths are most suitable for small objects and studying fine detail, for example on the Moon and the planets. So the 130EQ is adapted to view planets and deep space large objects , distant galaxies the 114 eq is more for Moon and planets.
      Hope this helps.

    Hi, I have a quick question!
    I never know where to stand when looking through the red dot finder.
    If i adjust my body angle slightly to the right it'll make the red dot appear to the left and if I adjust my body angle slightly to the left the dot will appear to the right. Do you have any tips to be able to line up or how / where to stand when viewing through the red dot?

    • @reviewsbydave8417
      @reviewsbydave8417  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A good question, it does take a while to be positioned correctly behind it and you have to kind of approach it from a distance then move inwards, I'll have a play and maybe add some help on the next telescope video. For now, try standing further back and try to keep dot in view as you bring your eye to the finderscope.

    • @reviewsbydave8417
      @reviewsbydave8417  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Bhuvanwsha I am awaiting good weather, but hope to get some more footage soon, Yes you can view Saturn although atmospheric conditions will need to be good to see the rings, It's just a case of being patient and finding a place with very little light polution.
      Barlow lenses will help see the rings but you will ned to keep it very steady, there is a motor drive you can add to it that keeps it alighned with the Earths rotation, That saves having to keep making small adjustments with the slow motion controller.
      Thanks for watchintg and commenting,
