NAMM 2024: Korg MicroKorg 2 - No Talking

- Jim Heywood from @EarmonkeyMusic spent some time with the recently announced microKorg 2 - which offers a new synthesis engine, more effects and a looper.
The pre-production model here did not have a full compliment of presets on board yet.

I’m feeling very m’eh about the sounds, and the styling tbh … They could have given the S more voices and a better colour scheme, and I would be more interested …
Yeah they only had 8 presets ready, and the interface is really different from the OG so it will take time to come up with better stuff. I think it's pretty capable. But we'll see what it can do when they get some good sound design going.

If I am honest the Micro Freak is above this on my want list.
I'm digging its new look & light show. So many synths lack cool lights & style. That needs to come back. Remember how beautiful the original Access Virus Indigo looked? Stunningly GLORIOUS!

Troll? My dude, some of us are sensitive to light, bright white and blue LEDs are a no no for me, but I just cover them with electrical tape. Won't stop me from buying something.
More synths should offer the ability to completely turn off the lights on them. The white LEDs on my Cobalt 5s were unbearable until I covered them....so bright I couldn't even read the text around them.

The first microkorg was a beast, so I think this one with few more options like the looper is really great.

They should’ve taken a cue from Akai and included real imitation wood sides.
Needs more knobs
As the one who did this video, I agree. That was one of my gripes with the first Microkorg.
Such a waste of space with the big genre selection knob.....yes Korg...we know you want to pay respsct to the original.....but this is silly...customers will appreciate the enhanced functionality of more knobs!

Yes, as many knobs as the MS2000.

Obviously there's way more presets on the way then these 8, but JEEZ really expected a little more with the first impression.🙄🙄 So far this video is just giving me more reassurance that I'll still be fine with my OG model. The extra features are cool, but still....And honestly 8 voices is a step up, but super disappointing. Would it really be have been that hard to give it 16 here in 2024??
The bean counters did the math, and this is how they predict they squeeze out the max profit with the least amount of output. But they could have pushed it too far this time.

Psst.. for 700 bucks, you're better off saving on a Minilogue XD, Minifreak, Deepmind or if you really want this editing layout an Access Virus, Ultranova, Blofeld, or Hydrasynth.. This thing looks and sounds half the expected retail price. Better off with a decent VST and midi controller.
Waste of money! There's the minifreak and hydra explorer in the same price range and are far more superior. I'd go for the hydra if I was into budget synths.
