    Loved your area, your fortunate to be able to do this yourself n have help from a partner. Im 67 disabled n would love many things, but don't have anyone to do for me or help me. Nor have the monies to pay someone to do it. But yours looks grand! Personally I would have made it larger and in that area put a lounging area n put the dining area in the bigger part in front of where you made that but it is very nice

    Pavers with gravel in between are the worst possible choice for a dining area! The chair legs are going to get caught on the edge of the pavers sliding them in and out front the table. I'm a practicing interior designer. My clients would end up and sue me if I recommended this installation. This type of install would be appropriate for an exterior entry (although I would caution clients to be aware of high heel shoes and potential for falls (liability issue). Would also work in an area with lounge seating. I wouldn't recommend this for around a pool because ultimately some gravel will end up on the pavers and be like stepping on Legos barefoot coming out of the pool. I've done a couple homes where we installed large format exterior pavers with artificial turf in between, as well as a driveway with poured concrete in a large grid pattern and installed artificial turf in between.

      Cool story Tina. It's their home and they do what they want. I'm sure they thought of those issues but ultimately it's what they can do and or are suggesting others do on a budget. Not everyone is "sue happy".

    On a budget, like to know what your budget was, and how much was spent, it would give me a better idea of what you consider budget friendly.

    Looks lovely but I would be concerned about the gravel with those chair legs. Any issues?

    • @Hometalk
      @Hometalk  ปีที่แล้ว

      So far they are good. Because most of the legs are on the pavers, there aren't too many issues yet!

      Those chair legs are going to scratch those pavers up !

    Was waiting for the covering...awning...umbrella or something. Very cute

    • @Hometalk
      @Hometalk  ปีที่แล้ว

      Our backyard is heavily shaded by trees so a covering would be wasted here. An fun umbrella would be cute if your area needed it!

    I absolutely Love what you did here, and I would Love to do this. How much did this project cost?

    • @Hometalk
      @Hometalk  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      We were really set on using these limestone pavers from a flooring store. The pavers were $25 a piece which is higher than normal pavers you can find at a home improvement store. That made the project on the pricier side, but you could really cut cost by using more basic pavers and getting your gravel mass delivered from a local landscaping company. Looking back, we wish we would have thought of that sooner! When we priced it out, it was a third of what we spend on buying individual bags. Hope those tips help!

    How did you encompass the gravelled area? To prevent grass encroaching

    • @Hometalk
      @Hometalk  ปีที่แล้ว

      We used a metal border that we hammered into the ground to define the space.

    So neither channel the guy down pebble rocks and then poured a glue over them(outdoor stuff) and all the rocks actually stuck together and it was weather proof and the rocks never kicked out of the way.

    Let's see here. Bags of pea pebbles are about $5 a bag. I counted 13 bags. So, that's $65. Decomposed granite is about $30 for 0.25 cubic feet. I counted 22 bags. So, that's $660. To rent a plate compactor for 4 hours is roughly $70. Paver sand is roughly $5 a bag. Couldn’t see how many bags they had. I saw at least 8. So, that’s $40. A roll of weed barrier is about $40. Gravel is about $6 a bag. She said they used “a dozen or so bags”. That’s $72. So, cost of materials is roughly $947. That doesn’t include the “oversized limestone pavers”. I couldn’t find “oversized limestone pavers” so can’t estimate the cost of those. Then the cost of the furniture. Which wasn’t in their budget because Overstock sponsored the video. Yeah...this is not budget friendly.

    may I ask how much did it cost? without the furniture and decor, just the patio :)

    • @Hometalk
      @Hometalk  ปีที่แล้ว

      The cost really depends on your space and the type of materials you chose! This patio was a few hundred dollars, but they chose to splurge on more expensive pavers.

    Good job, but youre not done What's missing is potted trees to define space, a fountain for ambient effect, ambient lighting, and art. Wall art in the form of a photo mural would be marvelous, don't you agree?

    • @Hometalk
      @Hometalk  ปีที่แล้ว

      A fountain would be the perfect touch!

    If there was a patio cover I would consider this a "build". The furniture was pre-assembled. Nice ground work though.
