    One of the first steps into understanding what to do, watch the ABX Audiophile video linked in the description. Join the ABX Audiophile discord, then go to the abx-baffle and open-baffle channel in Discord. Before purchasing anything, join the discord and listen to the other member's implementations and check out their designs.
    Be sure to watch this entire video before asking questions. There are measurements and design considerations near the end.

    35:53 yes!!! This is the magic side effect that good diy OB speakers really does (when you use a design like these) it shifts your systems budget to allow for a maximized amp, preamp and source aka less compromises because you are not spending 10k plus to get a commercially made speaker to acheive this level of transparency.
    Great video man! ❤

    Through my HP laptop with a dongle DAC and MEZE headphones, this sounds just stunning! There is a peak somewhere in the treble somewhere (not in the 8-10Khz) because it doesn't sound bright, but maybe higher up as sometimes I notice too much energy above that range. I can't hear beyond 17k, so it isn't there either. Danny at GR can figure it out.
    Regardless, this has to be one of the largest (sound stage), impactful and transparent high-end systems ever through the (sonic limitations) of TH-cam. At a truly fraction of todays $400-$900k systems at the shows! Simply WOW!

    Thank you for giving this video to the public. I am really excited about building the ABX style of speaker. Also thank you for laying the groundwork first by demonstrating that your room is well treated and the measurement sweeps show a beautiful line. Now I know that what I'm hearing is the true sound character these drivers are capable of producing.
    You kept the LaDolce 15" driver (but did not slot load it), the tweeter (albeit 2 and with a flare), the original value cap, and the L pad. That's fine. We are hearing everything that the ABX version uses, minus the LaDolce 18" driver, but are instead treated with two towers of Rythmik open baffle servo drivers mounted in H-frames via GR Research.
    I have a few follow up questions if I may be so bold. I think I may know the reason for some of your choices, but that may be presumptuous of me.
    1. Why two tweeters and why the flare?
    2. What brand of cap are you using and did you try others?
    3. What frequencies are being done by the subs and what slope did you like best?
    4. Did you have any other issues that you had to work around with dsp?
    5. Your speaker design and finish looks audio show worthy of a room. They appear to have semi enclosures in the back. How important are they in sound quality or was it aesthetics? Again, beautiful.

    • @TimbreDynamics
      @TimbreDynamics  4 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      1. Two tweeters is not necessary. One works just fine. This is something I'm working on with a partner. The two tweeter horn adapter should be available later this year. It's still in the prototype phase. Start with 1 and add another when this is ready.
      2. You can get my external crossover 3D model with links to all the XOver parts here: www.thingiverse.com/thing:6670319
      3. The subs are taking over at 120Hz. Sub slopes and other adjustments are very room specific, so sharing them here is useless for anyone. The GR research servo subs are just amazing and cost around $4k to make in a DIY kit. However, if you visit the ABX audiophile discord, you will see many people building these with the LaDolce 18'' sub bass drivers with good results.
      4. I do not use DSP, never have. I have worked really hard on dialing in my room. Your room is your biggest speaker. Most people ignore it, but it's probably more important than many other things people spend money on. It's taken me 3 years to get here. I am no room acoustics expert, I only achieved this through trial and error.
      5. No semi-enclosures in back. They are mounted straight to the baffle. The case you see on the back of the 15, is a crossover case (See #2 above)
      One other note, I am using front loading on the 15. I am using a 9'' hole. Most people on the discord are using a 9 or 10'' hole for the 15. The group is using a similar technique on the 18 bass driver. Again, before purchasing anything, join the discord and listen to the other member's implementations and check out their designs.
      Peace and happy listening.

    OK SO there's beautiful plate reverb on Plas Johnson's PInk Panther tenor sax - not a concert hall recording IE genuine delays of the track - and yes it sounds amazing even over YT - I would listen for reverb on RvG recordings or on Snatana Borboletta -Mahavishnu - HevyWeather by Weather Report - precisely to hear the speakers play the reverbs - or Echoplex repeats (often cretaed by Carlos sanatna crouching on the floor)

Currently open baffle speakers are becoming more talked about, in which the sound quality can be customized to your room without costing much. The sound is fabulous! I'm hooked. I'm intrigued by the use of two tweeters and look forward to your video on this aspect of the design and build. Conventional wisdom says that concentric midrange/tweeter provides the best imaging. Did you find any downside by placing the tweeters a considerable distance above the midrange?

    • @TimbreDynamics
      @TimbreDynamics  4 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Everything is a trade off. I much prefer the tweeter outside the coax in this case. It measures so much better out than in. Perhaps a small loss in imaging, but sounds oh so much better to me. So smooth outside. Incredibly flat and less peaky response IMO. I’m going off the deep end next. 15’’ MTM. Is it possible? I think it just might be. We’ll see.

      What’s playing are the GR Research triple threat servo subs (120hz and down) and the Elysiums (floating wood baffles). The compression horn tweeters are not a main brand anyone would know. They actually come from the competition car audio industry. More to come on those later.

    Amazing job. I am listening to it on my own home-built, home-designed system. I am frustrated with the recording though - calibrated measurement mics are definitely not the go when it comes to showing off the capabilities of your sound system. You want dual, sensitive condenser mics (Shure SM27 Professional Large Diaphragm), each slightly off-axis on the opposite side of each speaker (25 degrees), but only 800mm from each channel (at mid-height, of course). Of course, levels need to be set appropriately. That recording then needs to be EQ'd to match the in-person response of your speakers (by ear, by the builder is fine).
    But amazing job. Despite the recording, I can still hear the detail and spaciousness.

      @TimbreDynamics  8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yes and yes. To get a 20k signal from the seating position, it takes a lot of treble output. Who can hear that high anyway? However, it’s there if you want it. That’s the beauty. Again I normally listen at about 60 percent of that output. The larger the room the more open you want that lpad. These speakers should scale to a large room with no issues.

    To get a good understanding of how good speakers are we need to hear how they deal with complex passages.
    Yes they sound nice (a little bright for my taste, but nice) when you throw them an underarm slow ball that they can belt out of the park but how do they go dealing with busy passages of music?
    Most speakers sound decent playing a well recorded simple 3 piece band and a vocal with plenty of space in the mix, its only when speakers have to deal with multiple instruments occupying the same range that they turn to mush, but nobody ever does a sound demo with challenging music.
    It's the equivalent of testing a racecar by driving it conservatively in a straight line i'm sure it purrs but how does it go under hard throttle, hard braking, exiting and approach tight turns, inclines, when strong forces are applied?

      I plan on it. I've deviated quite a bit due to my use case. I've discovered some unbelievable driver values. I currently have another pair of 15s on their way to try as well as new tweeter diaphragms. IMO, speaker manufacturers that try to build a one and done, are going to be a thing of the past. With the modern technology available to everyone and your ability to create just about anything relatively easy, I think the DIY community is about to explode. A good listening experience is a marriage between the room and your gear. The more you can tweak your gear, the happier you will be and your system purchases will translate to different use cases as you grow, move, or whatever. Open Baffle and DIY just can't be beat. @@mikegoppert4177 yeah that top heavy sound is impressive for about 10 minutes for me! I like a warmer presentation where the highs kinda twinkle like stars. I can listen for hours like that. They are impressive though and that tweeter arrangement is interesting. Looking forward to more vids. I am considering doing Terry's ten inch driver open baffle and a dipole sub. Love the tv mount idea. The swivel tilt options are very cool. I noticed your tweeters are dipole too. It's that customized?

    • @mikegoppert4177
      @mikegoppert4177 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@Phlooredthat’s the cool thing with these builds. There are so many ways to dial the sound to your liking. Speaker building is a marriage of the speaker to the room, not a one and done thing. These tweeters are car audio competition drivers. They are extremely well behaved. I have opened them up. They already came with an exposed inner diaphragm so it was relatively easy to do. Typically open baffles will yield a more thin sound than a typical box speaker; however, with tilting the lpad down, you get a much warmer less detailed sound. You can then change out tweeter diaphragms to match your taste in treble. I’ve gone through 5 or so different diaphragms trying to find one that matches my taste. I have another pair arriving next week. Those I believe will be a beautiful fit for my taste based on other users feedback. Terry will lead you right at the start and give you a great foundation to build upon. You can then tweak over time. Peace and happy listening.

      @@mikegoppert4177 I for one like the top end. Doesn't sound bright to me, just flat and very extended. Most people haven't hear clean and clear 20 Khz and a normal reaction is that it is "too much". Most 'audiophiles' don't like horn speakers, compression drivers, or pro audio sound either - they think it's not musical and believe it is just 'too much information'.

      @@keithbrandson6293 so true. I think most people haven’t really heard the full frequency range, especially at the sitting position. However in understand their view.
