The horseshoe is attached by nails through the hoof. The nails poke out the top of the hoof and he hammers them loose so he can pull the old horseshoe off.

They kind of do but it's mostly afterwards when they're walking again but no this doesn't hurt them their hooves have no nerve endings also idk why it looks like a coconut lol

The idea of a farriers nail is to exit the hoof wall then we clench the nail down. It acts like a crimp holding the shoe on tighter
What did you tap into the end of the shoe on the one side after you cooled the shoe?
It looked like a stud for traction, serving the same purpose as borium, for example.

The hoof doesn't repair the nail holes, they just grow out.
