In Japanese culture people do not hug - but when you hug them they often become overwhelmed with emotions, like they are desperate for it.

Oddly enough, when I saw this piece today I had just finished re-reading "Killing Commendatore" by the the great contemporary Japanese novelist, Haruki Murakami. The protagonist is a portrait artist who ultimately realizes that the goal of portraiture is self-knowledge.
The passion is off the charts.They made her year she was so emotional.❤
There's a special moment when an artist shows their artwork to a person and their eyes light up because they can instantly recognize themselves or someone else in the artwork because the artist has captured their likeness so well and really, that first initial twinkle in their eyes only lasts maybe 2 to 3 seconds but god it's an incredible feeling and makes the process of creating the art so worth it. That feeling is completely consuming this woman in the video and it's so wholesome.
