I noticed that Rosie was really tiny when you got her, was she the runt of the litter ? Usually they tend to be the most intelligent and grow the quickest. They often have a strong desire to keep up with their siblings. She is absolutely one of the most stunning Whippets I’ve ever seen. Show quality. Gorgeous gal, Louie is a beauty too. I wish I could get one, but they are so rare these days because of Covid. No rescues or puppies to be had. Quite a commitment. Rosie is super special, we had a puppy named Tawny. She was the runt, smallest of a litter of 4. The only female and was rejected by her mother. The males were furry and lovely, Tawny was scrawny, still lovely. The breeders let her go at 2 and a half weeks. She ate through an eye dropper and then Pablum. Was the size of a guinea pig. Grew into a beautiful pet. Lo and behold the mother dog was hit by a car and the breeders wanted our little gal back so they could breed her. Not happening, furthermore she was spayed. Lessons learned by the greedy breeders who also rejected her. Bittersweet. We had Tawny for 14 glorious years. Best dog ever. Like Rosie, she was trained immediately and we did not do anything special. She was just an all around smarty, that caught on quickly. Sorry for the long post, but I wanted to share.

Rosie is a little dream puppy! I think most people I know who have whippets would say that isn't typical, they can be like Tasmanian Devils for the first year. Mine was like a kite with ADHD for the first 8 months, no focus or concentration and no impulse control. She's wonderful now at almost 8 but it was such hard work that I'd still think twice about having another puppy!

Great video!! Good to hear that little Rosie has been no trouble. We are getting another whippet puppy in December to join our whippet Peggy who is 1.5 years old. I hope that she will be as good with the new puppy as Louie has been with Rosie! Peggy was certainly a handful as a puppy so we hope it will be easier this time around. Louis looks so much like my Danny, too, but Daniel was not eager to please like your Ali. We were novice dog owners, and he knew it. He knew his basic commands, but he wasn’t going to do them unless there was a treat in it for him. Unfortunately, I’ve developed a dog allergy and asthma, so having another one isn’t in the cards. Now and then I like to live vicariously through others. 😉 Thank you for sharing your dogs with us. I stumbled upon your channel, and it’s given me a chance to reminisce about my boys. Hi Dave enjoyed that video. I'm guessing that beach was Runswick bay ? I have spent quite a bit of time over that way and we have a place in Ugthorpe which won't be too far away from you I guess. Ironically we have a 2 year Whippet called Franco he is a lovely dog and very similar markings to your Louie which we re-homed and we have also just got a 2nd Whippet Luna, she is just 9 weeks old now and doing well, completely agree about them being intelligent dogs so far it's been plain sailing
You've moved to a beautiful part of the country. Louie is so good with little Rosie, and typically tells her off when she gets in his face, lol. All whippet's don't like that. But he's enjoying having aa cute little sister. I think all whippet's are very intelligent. Having an older dog is the best way for them to learn quickly. Like you, I couldn't find a rescue last time, and ended up with two pups, not one. Never had two dogs at once, never mind two pups. Boy, oh boy, did they keep me on my toes, haha. And both being pups, they get very naughty, together. Anyway, Rosie is beautiful, and has exactly the same white blaze down her face as my whippy girl. Btw, Lilipeeps do made-to-measure coats of all kinds for sight hounds. But as you stated, wait until the growth stops, as it can be very expensive. Louie is a great, calm, kind teacher. And Rosie is a fast learner. What's not to love? You're all having a great life up there. Nice to see you all enjoying it.

Ive been watching the videos to take some tips for my 18 month old boy Reggie. He is almost the opposite to both of your dogs. He was an awful pup, it took him 8 months to stop pooing in the house! He has definitely gotten better over time but 18 months down the line and he is still awful off the lead. He runs after any dog he see’s and gets unbelievably excited. He will run after a ball but wont bring it back. He will also find all kinds of poo (dog, sheep, horse etc) and eat it. We’ve tried everything, is it a matter of time? Its important to note he is good as gold in the house and a beautiful little boy, just has some really bad habits!
Hi Patrick I’m no expert I’ve just learnt my skills and tricks as I’ve gone through having a number of dogs in the past but Rosie is our first puppy Is Reggie your first dog / puppy? If so you may need to go to some training classes! However dogs are like people all different and have the different ways but consistency and being the leader of the pack ! !!! my whippet pup (vala). i swear she's super intelligent. she will sit and watch whatever i do. ready to learn. learned her name within a day or two. understood how to sit within a few minutes really. she knows human food is not hers. so she will sleep behind me on the sofa when i eat dinner. today is the first day shes had to be alone for an extended period of time due to my job. and she never even peed or pooped. though i swear when she finally got out to pee it was like a fire hydrant. the only. and i do mean. the ONLY bad trait she has is that she's prone to be dramatic. cries when shes bored. which is somehow often.
to anyone who may have a whippet pup and is considering purchasing clothes for it. it is seriously very easy to make your own. use an arm off an old sweater you never wear to begin with. i do recomand buying a coat in a somewhat bigger size than the pup needs though. might look like a potato with legs but they grow into it FAST. you do not have to dress up your dog whenever you go out. entirely depends on temperature and how long you plan to stay out. if its a pee break. dont make it a hassle. i have a harness., two actually but i never use them. i have a rather strange collar. a bit wider than normal ones. to me its easier to put on, won't mess up her walk (whippets have elegant walks, and with the wrong harness it can be altered sadly).
Whippets are highly intelligent, don’t forget they have terrier in them. Terriers are intelligent. Hounds can be too. Rosie is an absolute beauty. I think a lot has to do with trust and Dave I don’t know you, but you seem to have a way with pets and they most certainly sense when you care about them. If you had Louie from a puppy would have been the same, Louie is lovely. Had to figure it out on his own, three homes so you say. I’d say he is a gifted boy.

Mine grew up soo fast, I had the same with mine they was soo intelligent from a few days of having them, I didn’t have to use treats etc they picked there name up quickly. I recon is love from you Dave and Jo :) that’s what another whippet owner said to me ♥️ I have two small ones and two large whippets :) always would love to get another whippet :) Love the beach soo beautiful :) I love my girls it is hard having 4 at times over cost etc but I rather give up things for my self to give them something :) It’s really good Rosie is learning from lord Louie ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️🐾🐾🐾🐾 Hopefully one day my Crystal, Sapphire, Pearl and jasmine can meet Louie and Rosie ♥️♥️

We have a 6 month old whippet (also called Louie) and we have tried Tails, Ava, Burns and Laughing Dog. The Laughing Dog is best value, but his wind is much more pungent!! Loving your videos. I had a whippet x greyhound puppy who was just like Rosie in that she learnt so incredibly quickly. She was housetrained straight away, never ran off and was perfect on the lead. Again like Rosie, I think she learnt a lot from my older greyhound. I have a question. I'm planning on getting a whippet puppy in the spring. I've had greyhounds and lurchers but never a pedigree whippet. I have heard people talking about 'show' whippets and 'working' whippets. Personally I'd prefer a slightly larger one, like Louie and I'm wondering if you can shed any light on these different types?
Hi there you will love having a whippet with your Experience 👍 yes come across them comments to and really don’t stand it myself to be honest the best thing to do is what we did it’s Decide what sort of size with you want and if it’s a puppy look at the both the parents and generally speaking The puppy will grow to match them we was looking to get a small whippet and a female so Rosie’s Parents are both small whippets I do think tho it also depends on what exercise they get and the type of exercise We do lots of walking and up and down lots of hills this build up the muscles but they both love to run free too A good balance diet is also key as you will know from your other dogs Hope that helps 👍🐾😀

Anglo Saxon Sentinel , thank you for that, it’s very helpful. I had assumed (I don’t know why) that show whippets are the very tiny shivery ones. I love them all and although I’d slightly prefer not to have a tiny shivery one, it doesn’t worry me too much. I’ve also realised that Italian greyhounds are very finely put together so I’m possibly getting confused between them and whippets.
I want to get a whippet puppy. I have experience raising smaller dogs from birth and getting them trained without much trouble, however it seems that here in the north east USA the breeders want you to have a PhD in dogs to be allowed to even attempt to purchase a puppy. It is honorable to see they want the dogs treated right but some of these breeders are asking for way to much in terms of past experience and promises for the puppies.

Bitch! 😂😂😂 l'm sorry l coundn't help myself😂😂😂 I'm not suprised that you haven't needed to really train her. The trick is to spend a lot of time with them. Go out for daily long walks & have clear commands, all of which you did. In my experience this is all you need to do. She looking fab & posh...so it Louie 😊

Hi Dave enjoyed that video. I'm guessing that beach was Runswick bay ? I have spent quite a bit of time over that way and we have a place in Ugthorpe which won't be too far away from you I guess. Ironically we have a 2 year Whippet called Franco he is a lovely dog and very similar markings to your Louie which we re-homed and we have also just got a 2nd Whippet Luna, she is just 9 weeks old now and doing well, completely agree about them being intelligent dogs so far it's been plain sailing

You've moved to a beautiful part of the country. Louie is so good with little Rosie, and typically tells her off when she gets in his face, lol. All whippet's don't like that. But he's enjoying having aa cute little sister. I think all whippet's are very intelligent. Having an older dog is the best way for them to learn quickly. Like you, I couldn't find a rescue last time, and ended up with two pups, not one. Never had two dogs at once, never mind two pups. Boy, oh boy, did they keep me on my toes, haha. And both being pups, they get very naughty, together. Anyway, Rosie is beautiful, and has exactly the same white blaze down her face as my whippy girl. Btw, Lilipeeps do made-to-measure coats of all kinds for sight hounds. But as you stated, wait until the growth stops, as it can be very expensive. Louie is a great, calm, kind teacher. And Rosie is a fast learner. What's not to love? You're all having a great life up there. Nice to see you all enjoying it.

Ive been watching the videos to take some tips for my 18 month old boy Reggie. He is almost the opposite to both of your dogs. He was an awful pup, it took him 8 months to stop pooing in the house! He has definitely gotten better over time but 18 months down the line and he is still awful off the lead. He runs after any dog he see’s and gets unbelievably excited. He will run after a ball but wont bring it back. He will also find all kinds of poo (dog, sheep, horse etc) and eat it. We’ve tried everything, is it a matter of time? Its important to note he is good as gold in the house and a beautiful little boy, just has some really bad habits!

Is Reggie your first dog / puppy?
If so you may need to go to some training classes!
However dogs are like people all different and have the different ways but consistency and being the leader of the pack ! Are my two highest tips and in time it will get a lot better

!!! my whippet pup (vala). i swear she's super intelligent. she will sit and watch whatever i do. ready to learn. learned her name within a day or two. understood how to sit within a few minutes really. she knows human food is not hers. so she will sleep behind me on the sofa when i eat dinner. today is the first day shes had to be alone for an extended period of time due to my job. and she never even peed or pooped. though i swear when she finally got out to pee it was like a fire hydrant. the only. and i do mean. the ONLY bad trait she has is that she's prone to be dramatic. cries when shes bored. which is somehow often.
to anyone who may have a whippet pup and is considering purchasing clothes for it. it is seriously very easy to make your own. use an arm off an old sweater you never wear to begin with. i do recomand buying a coat in a somewhat bigger size than the pup needs though. might look like a potato with legs but they grow into it FAST. you do not have to dress up your dog whenever you go out. entirely depends on temperature and how long you plan to stay out. if its a pee break. dont make it a hassle. i have a harness., two actually but i never use them. i have a rather strange collar. a bit wider than normal ones. to me its easier to put on, won't mess up her walk (whippets have elegant walks, and with the wrong harness it can be altered sadly).

Whippets are highly intelligent, don’t forget they have terrier in them. Terriers are intelligent. Hounds can be too.
Rosie is an absolute beauty.
I think a lot has to do with trust and Dave I don’t know you, but you seem to have a way with pets and they most certainly sense when you care about them.
If you had Louie from a puppy would have been the same, Louie is lovely. Had to figure it out on his own, three homes so you say. I’d say he is a gifted boy.

Mine grew up soo fast, I had the same with mine they was soo intelligent from a few days of having them, I didn’t have to use treats etc they picked there name up quickly. Enjoying your videos immensely, thank you. In one of them, you mentioned food. Do you have any recommendations? We have a 6 month old whippet (also called Louie) and we have tried Tails, Ava, Burns and Laughing Dog. The Laughing Dog is best value, but his wind is much more pungent!!

Hi Charles and thank you 🙏 re food we only now use Pooch and Mutt (not the cheapest but top quality) both Louie and Rosie a little of the wet in a morning and dry in the afternoon the good thing about the dry is when they eat it and drink it swells slightly in the stomach helps them feel fuller hope that helps

Loving your videos. I had a whippet x greyhound puppy who was just like Rosie in that she learnt so incredibly quickly. She was housetrained straight away, never ran off and was perfect on the lead. Again like Rosie, I think she learnt a lot from my older greyhound. I have a question. I'm planning on getting a whippet puppy in the spring. I've had greyhounds and lurchers but never a pedigree whippet. I have heard people talking about 'show' whippets and 'working' whippets. Personally I'd prefer a slightly larger one, like Louie and I'm wondering if you can shed any light on these different types?
Hi there you will love having a whippet with your Experience 👍 yes come across them comments to and really don’t stand it myself to be honest the best thing to do is what we did it’s Decide what sort of size with you want and if it’s a puppy look at the both the parents and generally speaking The puppy will grow to match them we was looking to get a small whippet and a female so Rosie’s
Parents are both small whippets
I do think tho it also depends on what exercise they get and the type of exercise
We do lots of walking and up and down lots of hills this build up the muscles but they both love to run free too
A good balance diet is also key as you will know from your other dogs

Anglo Saxon Sentinel , thank you for that, it’s very helpful. I had assumed (I don’t know why) that show whippets are the very tiny shivery ones. I love them all and although I’d slightly prefer not to have a tiny shivery one, it doesn’t worry me too much. I’ve also realised that Italian greyhounds are very finely put together so I’m possibly getting confused between them and whippets.
I want to get a whippet puppy. I have experience raising smaller dogs from birth and getting them trained without much trouble, however it seems that here in the north east USA the breeders want you to have a PhD in dogs to be allowed to even attempt to purchase a puppy. It is honorable to see they want the dogs treated right but some of these breeders are asking for way to much in terms of past experience and promises for the puppies.

I'm not suprised that you haven't needed to really train her. The trick is to spend a lot of time with them. Go out for daily long walks & have clear commands, all of which you did. In my experience this is all you need to do. She looking fab & posh...so it Louie 😊
