    Marbles work really nice to make sure your hop bag sinks and all hops touch the beer during dry hoping.

    I loved it when you couldn't find the scissors then stepped on the auto siphon. That pretty much describes my typical brew day. It's encouraging to know I'm fairly normal.

    • @phrerix
      @phrerix 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      No harm in asking but! Conversion quick cheat guide: pounds to kilograms-divide by 2 (close enough, 1kg=2.2lbs), ounces to grams - multiply by 30 (close enough, 1oz=28.34g), now Fahrenheit to Celsius is a little tricky but for brewing mashing always happens around 66C which is 151F and every delta 1C is roughly delta 2F (close enough, delta 5C = delta 9F). This is what I do for a rough idea when listening to things.

    • @aesonvirus
      @aesonvirus 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      My first IPA is now on tap and I'm extremely happy with the outcome. One of my best beers yet. Just prepare yourself for the long heat up times. I'm now going to start using my propane burner and backup kettle to get the water to temp and then transfer to this system. Everything runs super smooth and easy once up and running but the heat up times add about 1-2 hours (depending on mash schedule) to a brew day and that doesn't always work for me.

    • @johnnyvestal1509
      @johnnyvestal1509 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You already have the new 240v controller?

    • @aesonvirus
      @aesonvirus 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Johnny Vestal nope :( If you have the 240v system coming, I'm staying tuned for your thoughts on it. The 110v is great once up to temp but getting there takes a while.

    • @linuxbozo
      @linuxbozo 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is a huge difference between 120v and 220v setups. I have the original system, and did a 220v conversion myself. Typical brew day went from about 6.5 to 7 hours on 120v to about 4.5 to 5. While I didn't provide a huge amount of detail, I outlined what I did so others could try to do the same: instagram.com/p/BjvlhtaFM61/?

    First you back a dump truck full of hops up to your garage door wondering how you are going to manage to fit all of that into your 10 gallon kettle. Lol. I really used to like the hoppy stuff years ago but eventually I found my way back to beer, and I don't miss the hop bombs (undrinkable swill) one bit.

When should i add the dry hops and for how long? Should i bottle immediately after taking out the dry hops? How long should it sit in the bottles at room temp? Nice video!

    Why do you want to clarify the IPA? It should stay a bit cloudy, especially double IPA.

    • @ClawhammerSupply
      @ClawhammerSupply  6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I only like my NEIPA style IPA's cloudy-- I like a nice clear IPA otherwise. That is the beauty of homebrewing-- no need to clear it up if that is not your thing.

    • @garethpritchard7012
      @garethpritchard7012 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      IPAs should be clear unless you're specifically making a New England IPA. Even if you're making a neipa you'd still use whirfloc in the boil to help the trub drop to the bottom. It'll still be hazy with all the protein rich adjuncts in the grist.

    I notice that you do not sparge in some of your videos. Do you typically not have to sparge with this type of system? I have yet to find any definitive literature that says sparging is/[is not] required with a brewing system that recirculates the wort during the mashing process. Thanks ahead of time.

      Ours is generally 73% for low to medium ABV beers. It drops with bigger beers if we don't sparge, but we generally have to sparge when the grain bill approaches 20lbs. Yep, we splurged and bought a canner! We really like it. Oktober Designs is the brand.
