I was going to suggest to everyone. That when swapping if the huge starter from the original engine works. It is most likely strong enough to act as a electric reverse. . Using .a large car battery for it and to start the gas engine. and only using it to back from a parking space . . .
As an Electrician, I got mad respect for you moving that electric start key. Might seem simple but I've seen so many people not do that and it's so easy 😂😂
Put the original belt back on, disable the automatic governer and idle up then engine to 700rpm and you will be good to go. The reason its running when at idle is that engine is set to idle above the throw in point of the clutch.
Sitting down deeper than the driven clutch does not affect top-end speed, you lose low-end torque. Your speed comes from when the belt rides all the way down in the driven and up on the driver pulley. The additional Speed gains you saw with the wider belt was due to riding further out on the driver pulley. You have the right idea but reversed.
I kind of had done the same thing as you but with 7hp duromax engine have the same problem with top speed mine is an 1980 ezgo golf cart the motor sits almost on top the rear end also I put on a 20 series comet clutch because to a sumetic belt instead a 40 series being asumetric type clutch need to put a sumetic belt for the driven clutch that is why I went with a 20 series comet clutch
i tried the 40 series clutch too didnt work so i got one for a 1 inch belt sold at go Powersports and vegas carts for throttle its easy attach to the arm and losen the nut so theres minimal resistance and or add a return spring
I have the same cart heavily modified I used a honda gx 420cc and swapped the rear end with a yamaha g2 as you lost reverse I used a comet c94 duster clutch and the belt size is 1/3/16
I got the same clutch set up on my 01 G16 thought I got it all finished to take a test drive minus moving the key to the dash. I went to start it and do a test lap around the house I flipped the seat to started it and it took off. my crippled ass wasn't going to be able to run hop on the seat so I jumped over the right armrest to steer it up a hill where it stalled out. what my plan for now anyway is to move the key switch and just ware down the sides of the belt until it idles then when I need to replace the belt get the 7/8 wide longer replacement then order a comet clutch so that i can use the wider belt. I don't really care about speed right now i just need it moving and able to stop and idle at stop lights and signs. then ill work on speed. I'm planning on driving my cart from NB to BC for charity and to demonstrate how old golf carts can be rebuilt into a practical mobility aid. being 27 retired and crippled I'm way too young for an old lady scooter. being hemiplegic I got my cart to get around at the local dirt track then just started using it on the streets got pulled over a few times cops being cops and all but I fought it every time and eventually, the judge told the cops if im in one more time hed charge them with harassment. which didn't stop them. so i moved and this time got approval from the local government to use it they said ok we will make an exception to the bylaw you can ride it on the sidewalks but if im on the streets im subject to the motor vehicle act. i heard that news thought great that's a win. then I go out front and realize there's no sidewalk on my street. but I got a plan you don't need license or insurance to ride a moped here and a cart is pretty much just a 4 wheeled moped
The drive clutch you are looking for that will fit a 1" keyed shaft would be a comet 780. MFG Supply had the best price on them I could find. They use a 1 -3/16" belt. If you can find an adapter for the old clutch that's probably cheaper, but barring that, the 780 is what you were looking for. Do not buy the Comet Duster 94C. That uses the same size belt, but is intended for a tapered shaft, (probably the clutch you already have).
impretzel Do not get the comet duster 94 c It’s designed to go to a motor that turn a lot more rpm and they don’t make springs that is soft enough to make it work right
I have the same set up, with a 780 front driver pulley and stock rear pulley [not sure if that's the right name for it but the thing on the rear end the belt spins on] and I'm not getting the speed I want. Do I need to make stock rear end one smaller? Please help lol
Change the rear pulley to one compatible with the drive belt. Or you could put a torque converter on it and change it to chain drive, but the belt with the proper size rear pulley would probably be lower maintenance.
Badass! Did you happen to document the build on a forum? Any additional info on how you mounted the motor to the swing arm would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks for watching! No, there isn't a forum build. I removed the original engine mount frame piece and discarded it. I welded a piece of plate steel to the bottom of the round frame tubes. The engine was mounted to that by drilling holes through the plate steel.
Easy enough! I don't have access to a welder at the moment but am thinking I could reuse the original mount with a GX390 clone? Not as big as the duromax. Which model clutch were you supposed to buy?
I'm doing a predator engine swap on my golf cart and the belt I have for mine does not fit it is too small is there any specific size or length I need to buy and where can I get it please I need answers
There’s a formula for determining belt length that you can find if you google it. You have to have corresponding primary and secondary clutches. Meaning they must use the same belt width. I learned this through trial and error. If you search the forums you may find the answers you’re looking for. Thanks for watching the video!
Go power sports or Vegas carts has a 780 drive clutch to fit 1" straight shaft 4 strokes matches the golf cart it is a 780 driven clutch Vegas cart has kits to do the complete conversion motor plate drive clutch belt all parts to convert
Pulling on the governor arm eh? You're getting great acceleration because you're surpassing 3600rpm...I can hear it when you peel out of the garage. These motors can probably handle it tho.
Kind of late now, you already have that engine but generator engines have tapered shafts. Could have just found a used generator engine, usually pick him up pretty cheap because they really can't be used for anything else without modifying the shaft.
Thanks for the info! I am about to do a swap on my G1 cart, knowing that a generator motor would have a tapered shaft helps as I want to re-use my primary and driven clutches
Edit! Got a 13HP Dewalt generator motor and the stock clutch off and cant seem to figure out how to mount it on the new motor?! Any tips or tricks here? Couldn't get the starter / generator pully removed!
Benjamin Bridges not without seeing it, engines with tapered shafts can be funny since they are pressed fit. If the shaft is to small you can shim it, if to big it will still work as long as it goes partway in/on... but not always if the size difference is to much.
Dude, my golf cart does burnouts and your ranger doesn't even run yet! Want me to make a video on "How to finish your square body ranger project"? haha!
9:23 what I was looking for

Dude,that's awesome,burning rubber on a golf cart
It sure was fun!
That things a beast I want a v twin powered one but hopes and dreams. That has tons of power
How is that motor holding up?..im thinking of buying one for my newest kart build?

Thanks for the information!
The comet 94c comes in a few verities, two different tapers, and one for a 1" keyed straight shaft.
impretzel
Do not get the comet duster 94 c
It’s designed to go to a motor that turn a lot more rpm and they don’t make springs that is soft enough to make it work right
Hey I just put a 18hp duromax in my g1. Your video helped alot
Awesome!
Cool vid. I’d like to see one with a DURAMAX haha
Haha! I think I'd need to beef up the suspension!
ts6034 oh definitely… It would absolutely be a bit more work than a durOmax ha ha if the frame would even hold it
Wear did you get your belt from I need a longer belt like yours. I need a 40 inch belt .
I have the same set up, with a 780 front driver pulley and stock rear pulley [not sure if that's the right name for it but the thing on the rear end the belt spins on] and I'm not getting the speed I want. Do I need to make stock rear end one smaller? Please help lol

Where did you find that motor for under $300??? I need one.
Nice where can I get a clutch to fit that engine
Nice, what size drive belt? Mine rise above clutch . I have a 44 series magnum
Where did you get your belt and what's the part number
no reverse? can you make it reverse ? also what did this cost ? thanks
Top speed?
absolutely amazing !!!
Thanks for watching

Hey I’d like to copy this set up with my G1 , do you have a link for the clutch you bought for this, or more detail
Maxspeedingrods.com
40 series
Hey friend what clutch did you use for it, i need a 1 inch belt clutch
The comet 40 is a 1" shaft go power sports watch red beard garage he does tons of swap stuff
Change primary springs. Won't creep
Got some oomph
I'm doing a predator engine swap on my golf cart and the belt I have for mine does not fit it is too small is there any specific size or length I need to buy and where can I get it please I need answers

A 780 front driver pulley is what you need instead of the 40 series driver
I want to make mine as quiet as possible. I have this same motor but 18 hp
Where did you get your belt?
Can’t find belt long enough anywhere?

Cartspartsplus.com search tapered clutch adapter, says will hook a golf cart clutch up to any 1" straight shaft.... $49.95

What length belt did u use?
I don’t remember. I spotted the holes a bit to allow for belt adjustment. If you google it, there’s a way to measure for belt length.
Awesome!
Thanks!
Johndeer mule clutch
Sure aint no Ranger ;P
Dude, my golf cart does burnouts and your ranger doesn't even run yet! Want me to make a video on "How to finish your square body ranger project"? haha!
I am 30+ hours from my shop and truck... I mean I know I am well endowed and all, but......
Use a 70series clutch... Gopowersports.com has them in stock..
780 clutch
A comet 780 clutch would work better.
👍😎
That 16hp is probably a 12hp. False information from the duromax company.
hi there are a lot of
780 clutch
