90MPH+ Coaster & Amtrak Trains @ Carlsbad CA. // December 20th 2021 ft. Coaster F59PHI 3002

- All of these clips were recorded on December 20th 2021 in Carlsbad Village CA. and at Cannon Rd. in Carlsbad CA. At Cannon Rd., I caught my first 90MPH Coaster train and multiple Amtrak trains consistently moving just over 90MPH tracking at around 91-92 Range.
3002 Was also running the system today as apart of the schedule increases on the 25th of October, and it was a treat watching it run again. Enjoy!
So....we're just going to ignore the fact that PTC puts the train into Penalty at 5 over? You might want to get your speed gun checked ;)
Good comment, I was thinking about this; It is exactly why I put a range in the last clip. 91-95 instead of just keeping it at 95. I do understand PTC has limits before they put trains into penalty. I still keep 95 there because it should be noted that the speed gun even received A CHANCE to spike that high in speed. 99% of the time it sticks to 88-90mph if a train is sitting around that speed. And *most* of the time it is within 2-3mph of Amtrak Train Tracker.
@@JointedRail2024 The regular Speedo and the ptc are usually off by a few mph at those speeds. BUT, the ptc is almost always the more accurate of the two. If that were the case, then naturally it would be screaming at the engineer and making a braking enforcement. Realistically, your speed gun probably is a little off at that end of the speed spectrum, which isn't unusual. Maybe the train was going 91 or 92 and your gun read 95. But who knows.
@@michlo3393 The thing is, I’ve seen only one going 95. But they can get over 93mph only when there is a ptc issue
@@UPandBNSFrailfan6907 Unless track speed is 95, then you didn't see a train going 95 where the MAS is 90. This isn't the good ole days where oldheads ran hot everywhere. PTC has pussy-whipped people into running scared. And, most places treat running without PTC as running in non-signalled territory IE, 59 mph for passenger and 49 for freight. Add to the fact that Amtrak only hires nerdy, teachers-pet engineers who worship the rule book as if they are members of a cult; so they for damn sure aren't even going to try going ONE over, much less three or five.

3001 Finally returned to service about a month ago, seen it a couple of times and seems to be running great.

They have to climb over around a 2 percent grade which can lower the amount of speed on a train

@@blose774 I saw 588 go 90+ a couple of weeks back, and it was passing only a minute after it was scheduled to depart oceanside, but the engineer was on full attack. I got a video of it on my channel
@@basictransportenthusiast4386 I saw 774 a few weeks ago and it was going only 15-20mph through carlsbad village.I also saw 774 today and it was going high speed at 85-90mph and 581 at 90mph.Ive also seen slow northbound surfliners in the past.
