Your best bet for updating blocks you edited in separate projects is to use "write block". Its similar to save as in which you give blocks a name and save it to your library. You can save over old blocks by simply finding it through browse and replacing it.

I have two different separate blocks which were created by someone else. They have different names but their attributes are the same, such as Part Number, Descriptions, etc. When I try to rename one of the blocks to the same name as the other I get a message that the new name is the same as an existing block and it won't let me rename it. Is there a way to rename one block to be the same as the other or maybe merge one block with another block? Thanks.

Use write block instead of block. After that enter insert command. Go to browse. Click on the location ( desktop or whatever u have given).. Finally bring the drawing into ur user interface.

Victor Vieira you can use PURGE command to delete a block or other named objects as well
