    I like how during the conversation in the forest, Garmadon mentions how he got bitten by a snake. Which in the show: a snake bite was what turned him evil in the first place.

      And said snake was later entoumbed, grew to be a kaiju, was released by a madman, went on a rampage, and then was promptly killed by the very man that it bit.
      Ok, gonna be honest, the Ultra Dragon Vs Great Devourer fight is one of my favorites and the most important fight scene of the entire show to me, as it was the scene that got me into the show. And aside from that, despite being brief, it’s awesome and actually pretty heartbreaking once you get to Season 8 (Sons Of Garmadon).
      God I love this show, and Day Of The Great Devourer remains my favorite episode to this day.

    I'm a huge fan of the original show but I also love the movie to death. It's quite clear that the movie and show are from 2 separate universes. Sure there's some overlap and influence but the two are really entirely separate entities, like how comic books and movie adaptions are similar yet different.
    Overall the Lego Ninjago movie looked great, was absolutely hilarious, and had lots of heart. I thought it had beautiful animation and an even more beautiful message. Plus, the movie only resulted in more awesome Ninjago content. As a hard core fan how can I complain?

    The problem for me was they focused way too much on the father son dynamic and neglected the rest of the cast for almost the entire movie. There were small glimpses of what could’ve been and you could see the chemistry in the group but they didn’t go anywhere with it. As far as the tv series goes the movie is it’s own standalone thing and didn’t retcon anything, however they did change the design of the characters to look like the movie versions so they would be more recognizable to the general public.

    As a member of the “Ninjago community” I guess, you’re 100% right that it’s touchy to adapt the movie from the show, but in my opinion, the movie design changes in the show ROCK. The show’s hit a new peak, even if the designs do mess up continuity a bit. I guess it kinda worked out in the end? Ah well. I like this movie, and I like this show, for two different movies. This isn’t really Ninjago-Ninjago, but I like it anyway. Also, cool to see you reviewing this.

      Svetlin Paunov the upside of the movie designs is that they accentuate aspects of the ninja’s personalities really well, because they got less screen time. That helps the visuals in the show too.

      Again very true, a small chunk of the community still does not accept the new designs, which never seizes to amaze me me as they have already been here for two years and if they cannot get behind this and enjoy the show for the story it tells, then I am not sure if they can really be called “fans” of ninjago. Fortunately the rest of the community is made up of people just like you, who no matter what would enjoy the show for the story it conveys and not for the main characters’ visual designs. This is actually one of my favorite movies. I actually love the way he comes to terms with his horrible father- because his father doesn't change. That kind of realism in a kids movie was kinda mindblowing. This is Lloyd's story and Lloyd has to let his very legitimate feelings go for his own peace. As an adult child of an absentee father, this was certainly very refreshing after being told by every movie of my own childhood that "your father still loves you very much." No he didn't. Lots of kids have fathers who just don't know how to love them. I can't think of another movie that addresses this. Some children have crap parents and they just have to figure out how to navigate that without losing their minds. Bravo Lego. Seriously your best movie.

    I kinda wish you had watched the show before hand to add wins for the subtle references to Morro and the Great Devouror for this, but i'm just glad you're finally doing it! Even though it's the worst of the three LEGO Films, it's still great as far as kids movies are concerned and deserves some more love.
    Like you mentioned it's a shame they cut out so much lore form the show. Two bits that I think were absolutely necessary were Spinjitzu (because it's the name of the show!) and S1-5 Samurai X Nya instead of S5+ Water Ninja Nya, because not only is Sam X way cooler we even saw her (granted for like 3 frames) in the first film. Hell, LEGO Baman had both Robin and Nightwing, they could've done both.
    The whole "record all the VAs in the same room" thing was actually in the TV show as well, and was a big part of its drama and comedy. It's also a shame that Garmadon went from being one of the most sympathetic villains in history in the show to being one of the least after translated for the film.

    The LEGO Ninjago Movie gets way more hate than it deserves. Although it may not be as good as the TV show, my entire family agrees that it truly is an incredible, smart, hilarious and heartwarming story. Sure it has a few cliches, but they are all used perfectly. I cry openly during five separate scenes. The way Lloyd forgives his father but doesn't necessarily change him is beautiful to me. Garmadon still has a long way to go before he is truly a good guy, unlike in the show where the change is immediate. The casting was great, too. Probably my biggest complaint is that Fred Armisen didn't get enough lines as Cole. He's a funny guy who could have done more with the character.
    The biggest complaint with this movie is that it isn't part of the show's cannon, but honestly, that's for the best. If they had tried to make this movie with the character's we're familiar with, it may have gotten just as much hate, if not more. I, like most other fans, was ticked when I saw the character redesigns, but I grew to love them, and I actually love how they look like that in the show now.
    But my all-time favorite part of this movie has to be Olivia Munn as Misako. This movie fixed a lot of problems I had with her TV show character, like how she looks way too old to be Lloyd's mother, she made some terrible choices when it came to how to raise her son (as in not raising him and leaving him at Darkley's), and she's just not that good of a character in general. Koko is the appropriate age to mother a teenager, she took care of Lloyd and raised him to be a great young man, and is all-in-all just an incredible woman. She also proves that you can be beautiful, smart, independent and powerful without being an OP, SJW femiNazi (I'm looking at you, Rey). I share Nya's obsession with her. I've got minifigures of both Koko and Lady Iron Dragon, I have a framed picture of her on my bedside table, and a collage of pictures in my locker at school. She's just awesome in general.
    So yeah. It's my favorite movie. Followed closely by Creed 2, Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse, Avengers: Infinity War, and The Greatest Showman.

    Thank you for this video, it really helps me appreciate this movie a lot more. As a diehard fan of the show my dislike of the movie has grown over the years, but after seeing and hearing all of these really great things about it, I think it might be time for a rewatch. I've only seen it three, maybe four times. My father left us a few months after this movie was released and I haven't been able to watch it since. The heart-to-heart scene with the cat brought me to tears every time I watched it, and even for those few seconds you mention it.... my eyes got moist. Few films have hit me on such a deep personal level, so no matter how much I say I hate this movie for wrecking the love of Ninjago, it's forced its way into my heart. It really is a beautiful movie, visually and emotionally. 💛

    0:50 correction, the lore was never changed but rather adapted to look and kinda Fuze in with the movie. And by that I only mean that the characters changed designs and Lloyd had a change of voice actor.
    But in the show it's a time gap that aged our heroes, nothing else of it.
    Hope this cleared out a couple things.
    (The show is still amazing even after the film release.)
    Edit: the reason why Lloyd now has green eyes in the show has to do with the fact his power grew within him so much that the green is visable through his eyes!

  • @pinkpeppers5580
    @pinkpeppers5580 6 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    Yep, the entire cast had a character style change, but it is reference in the universe of the show to make it somewhat makes sense, Jay and Cole are talking, and they say that they could look completely different and not know it, and then Cole replies but we don't, I found that really clever, the show writers are doing their very best with the hand they've been dealt

    • @jbcatz5
      @jbcatz5 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      pinkpeppers55 For context, the show had just done a time travel season, or rather the macguffins allowed control of time. Time travel happened, and was used to hand wave the change to the character’s appearances.

    As a fan of the Ninjago TV show, the biggest problems that the change to be similar to the movie is the change in Lloyd's voice actor, and the sort-of retcon to them being still teenagers (they had only been referred to as "young men" and "boys" before) when in Season 3, they were helping Sensei Wu as teachers at his new school. Outside of the change of designs, nothing too radical happened.

    • @cringecentral5345
      @cringecentral5345 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Lloyd’s voice wasn’t changed because of the movie, it was changed because the Hageman brothers (the writers) wanted a more mature version of Lloyd and felt a voice change was necessary for that. And they’ve just always been teenagers according to the writers.

I'd assume you have to be at least 18-19 for that, so maybe they're just very late teenagers? That's the only fitting way I see they could still be teenagers, without undermining the amount of time that passed between the entire series

But looking back, there were a few subtle similarities that I really appreciate. Such as Jay learning spinjitsu first and being nervous around Nya.
