Don't know about the best but I had free frogs legs in a transport bar on an industrial estate which surprised me. Maybe they get a lot of French lorry drivers!
All right listen. This is probably the best explanation of what tapas are in the whole of the internet. Period. Dear tourist this is the truth and nothing more. Tapas is all about socializing, having a good time with your friends, colleagues, family or significant other. All that raciones, half raciones,... it is difficult the explain. You did a good work here.
Traveled to Barcelona in January for first time. Experienced the extended eye contact with strangers and LOVED it! A culture of openness and curiosity if refreshing.
Lol, I'm Spanish and know all of these things already, yet you explain them so brilliantly I cannot help but get hooked in your videos XD keep up the good work!
You can hear several theories explaining the origins of tapas. My favourite one dates from the XIII century, when Ferdinand II king of Aragon was on a several day journey from one Spanish city to another. One night, the expedition stopped in an inn where they could eat and rest. The king ordered some wine or beer. The actual tavern was full of flies and these went into the king's drink. As he became angry, the innkeeper gave him some ham that allowed the king cover the cup avoiding the flies to go into his drink. The translation for the word "tapa" is lid or cover. The king was very pleased with the solution and the anecdote was quickly spread. Drinking with a "tapa" became trendy very soon.
Philosophical video haha I´m from the north of Spain and i´m going to give you some advices about pintxos. Pintxos are not usually given free. In basque country you can serve the pintxos yourself. Usually there´s 1 toothpick on every pintxo so at the end the waiter charges you by counting the toothpicks you have in your plate. If you go to Navarra or La Rioja you can´t serve pintxos yourself. You have to ask the waiter/waitress for them to give it to you and to warm it if necessary. There will be pintxos at your sight and also there are more "cooked at the moment" pintxos that can be adviced on the wall or in a paper. Check the walls for any other information (wine offer and prices). Enjoy! PD: If you ever come to Pamplona you have to taste "fritos"

Hi Blick! My family and I recently spent a week in Barcelona and we went to a lot of places you recommended, including Antonio’s and Bar Joan. We LOVED bar Joan so much we went multiple times. I was hoping you could help me find the recipe for the spicy meatballs and sauce on their tapas menu? I want to make them in memory of our trip.

Helooooooooooooooo. Granada, Almería, Jaen?? That's where tapas were invented and where they are for free with every drink {though not allways necesarilly good}. The origin of the term comes from the word tapa= lead or top. They would put a slice of ham or chorizo over your drink (tapa) to stop the hot summer climate insects from going and drinking you wine.
It's really not easy to make a great paella or similar kind of rice. I've been cooking for years and years and still don't like mine when I make it. I'd almost given up but I just will have to try and try because I love it so much... Thanks for the answer!
Why are you so liar? It was by order of King Alfonso X in the thirteenth century who gave the order that wine should not be served, if it was not accompanied by a little food, when they put a slice of ham on the jar to avoid insects. On the other hand, you must be young, because you also lie about that it is there where they put free tapas, in the 80s, no tapas were put in practically any bar in Andalusia, and if in Madrid, for example.
When I'm speaking in Spanish, I say "Londres" and not "London". Since the video is in English, he says "Seville" and not "Sevilla". No problem with that.
Beautiful mate , I bet you enjoyed your plancha mushrooms with the image of a dead bull it’s a beautiful image to look at while you are eating fucking wrong lol xD 😂😂😂

The true paellas are made in the villages south of Valencia city such as El Palmar, Sueca, etc., although you can have a good one in the capital too. Congratulations on a nice videoclip, which captures the essence of tapas bar-hoping.
Thank you!!
I like watching your videos from years past. Just as good as the ones you make now, but your personality hadn't quite exploded yet (on camera). "Here we have subdued James, in his natural environment".
Interesting comment. Yeah, I am more relaxed in front of the camera now I think. Do you agree?
Spain Revealed - James Blick absolutely!

What about Carcelén?
What was the tapas bar known for mushrooms
Meson del champiñón
Que bien hablas el castellano, pareces español
Similar to Greek Meze but in Spain the old traditions live on
Super helpful, thank you!
Not to be negative, but you have lived in Spain how long and you pronounce it like sevile? ??
When I'm speaking in Spanish, I say "Londres" and not "London". Since the video is in English, he says "Seville" and not "Sevilla". No problem with that.
Beautiful mate , I bet you enjoyed your plancha mushrooms with the image of a dead bull it’s a beautiful image to look at while you are eating fucking wrong lol xD 😂😂😂
