    Santa Barbara is a coastal city in, and the county seat of, Santa Barbara County in the U.S. state of California. Situated on a south-facing section of coastline, the longest such section on the West Coast of the United States, the city lies between the steeply rising Santa Ynez Mountains and the Pacific Ocean. Santa Barbara's climate is often described as Mediterranean, and the city has been promoted as the "American Riviera". As of 2019, the city had an estimated population of 91,364, up from 88,410 in 2010, making it the second most populous city in the county after Santa Maria. The contiguous urban area, which includes the cities of Goleta and Carpinteria, along with the unincorporated regions of Isla Vista, Montecito, Mission Canyon, Hope Ranch, Summerland, and others, has an approximate population of 220,000. The population of the entire county in 2010 was 423,895.
    The city, in addition to being a popular tourist and resort destination, has a diverse economy that includes a large service sector, education, technology, health care, finance, agriculture, manufacturing, and local government. In 2004, the service sector accounted for fully 35% of local employment. Education in particular is well-represented, with four institutions of higher learning on the south coast (the University of California, Santa Barbara, Santa Barbara City College, Westmont College, and Antioch University). The Santa Barbara Airport serves the city, Santa Barbara Aviation provides jet charter aircraft, and train service is provided by Amtrak, which operates the Pacific Surfliner (which runs from San Diego to San Luis Obispo). U.S. Highway 101 connects the Santa Barbara area with Los Angeles roughly 100 miles (160 km) to the southeast and San Francisco around 325 miles (525 km) to the northwest. Behind the city, in and beyond the Santa Ynez Mountains, is the Los Padres National Forest, which contains several remote wilderness areas. Channel Islands National Park and Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary are located approximately 20 miles (32 km) offshore.

      Maybe that's a benefit in a way for those living there. More happening and more people often means more problems, dirtier, more run down. SB isn't considered cool and a place to go if you're single or trying to build a career so it keeps many people away despite being one of the nicest looking cities in the US.

    We stayed there as part of our honeymoon in 2005. I was talking to this guy in front of the hotel and it took me a while to realize he was homeless. His clothes were nice, just a little bit dirty. And he even had decent luggage!

    love how the homeless people were edited and left out KEEP IT REAL SB IS TRASH 🗑 I live here and see and live it daily gangs,homeless,druggies and thiefs ask anyone who has left a bike downtown or on Westside or Eastside SB WAS a great place now its filled with beans and hobos with a huge price tag for places to live 🤦

    • @sbg1911
      @sbg1911 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      The "beans" lived there way before and basically founded that town. Check your history, hence the name of that town. You sound like you're too poor to live in there anyway

      Almost every city in the US has these problems and in California, many of them much worse. Just have to accept that the city isn't 100% a perfect paradise and has some problems too until the reasons these problems exist and seem to be getting worse are really fixed across the state and country. As for ethnic groups, usually more wealth, less inequality, and higher education makes people of any ethnicity less likely to participate in crime and gangs so solve that problem but there are entitled, elitist jerks and macho, bully types who are more well off, though I think that's fueled in part by the extreme wealth inequality in the US (acting like those less wealthy are beneath them).

    That 'wharf' burned 3 times- I always wondered why, "with all that water available, how could those fires TOTAL EVERYTHING' ???? ( HMmmm )
