Kotaro ended up teaching me a lot of things about parenting, social interactions and just being kind. What a child goes through when abandoned is unimaginable. This story got me choking up multiple times. His cute little quirks, how strong he is trying to be, what hardships he has faced and how he is super intelligent... Everything is shown brilliantly. The creators are masters of storytelling, indeed! This is the kind of show I will torture myself by watching, heartwarming and heartbreaking in equal measures, stg if I don’t get a second season that clears it all up and gives Kotaro the best life then I am marching to Japan and burning it down, the whole thing
lmao, let me join you in burning the whole thing down if we don't get a second season. Also as someone who have faced a fraction of the things depicted in the show, it always is good to see so many kind and heartwarming parents trying their best to give a child a better life. It really makes me glad to see parents watching!
Happy to find someone reacting to this show! I didn’t care for the style either wasn’t going to watch at first but kept getting recommend to. I binged and cried so much! Happy to also find your channel 😊
That’s so true! The animation is misleading toward the masterpiece the anime is. Thank you for supporting our channel and hope you continue to support us!
i just finished this show today and needless to say it took me about an hour to finally stop sobbing. it was such a depressing show but being able to relate to some characters made me feel like i was in that show experiencing life with them which just made it so much more impactful for me
It must have been difficult for you to watch. I’m so sorry for what you’ve experienced. I hope though that you find and have people in your life that make you feel less alone.
I stumbled onto Kotaro when it first came on Netflix. I was in awe of how these people got funding to tell a story about a four year old living alone in a big city. It’s happy sad and eye opening. I myself was one of those latch key kids back in the 80s. It was just me and my mom who worked at night, so I spent everyday after school alone in a tiny apartment. She was also young and wild, so she’d go out a lot and I spent weekends alone, scrounging for change enough to buy something for breakfast. Like, Kotaro…you don’t feel sorry for yourself, it’s your life…you soldier on and grow up a bit faster. Independence breeds internal strength only those with similar stories understand. This is why I laughed and cried with this series because it rings true.
I just happened to stumble on your comment now. Thank you for sharing your story. I can only imagine how tough that all was for you having to be self-reliant at such a young age. I’m glad you were able to find resonance with the story. I really appreciate this comment because just like the show, your comment really sheds light on different experiences and perspectives that people need to be more aware about. No child deserves to grow up so fast and I’m sorry you went through all that. I admire the the strength you showed as a child. And it’s amazing to see that the experiences and resilience you’ve developed as a kid has made you come out the other side with a sense of independence and inner strength that is truly inspiring.
i just finished this anime earlier and i really felt for him, he's so smart and emotional mature and its sad bc he shouldn't HAVE to be, but then again that makes him stronger and he'll continue to grow although he didnt get a chance to have his childhood.
I love how relatable it is and how it cuts so deep. It’s painful but it’s a mirror that can show us the parts of our childhood that we need healed. It’s remarkable. I recommend it to anyone who watches slice of life anime.
I have seen the 1st and 2nd episodes and I love the show! I theorize that Kotaro is some genius kid who suffered some form of trauma growing up. It's probably gonna get dark on the later episodes.
I keep crying, even during the happier moments. I’ve watched it all before but just started again this evening. It’s so relatable and heartbreaking. I came here to share my thoughts as Netflix doesn’t have a comment section. 🖖
Bonjour ! I watched the whole show a couple days ago and went looking for some reactions to see if other people felt how amazing this anime is too. Didn't know about your channel but glad I discovered it this way, great video and review ! I'm surprise how good Kotaro's english dub is, really close to the japanese version on how he sounds and also on his way of speaking. Will take a look at the french one see if it's good too, will give me the opportunity to watch it again hehe. I'm going to check if the manga store near my place have it cause I'd love to see what's next and not sure if season 2 will come out anytime soon ! Kotaro really hit me, I hope more people hear about it cause I'd love to see more animes like that. Hope we can see more adventures of this little fellow in the future. Happy I got to learn about your podcast, going to watch next episodes. Much love and support from France and sorry if my writing is wrong :)
Just came across this show today. Im not into anime. Only watched two anime shows in my 30 years. But saw this scrolling on netflix and it stuck out. Played the first episode and really liked it. Its so cute and love how kotaro talks and acts.

An emotional rollercoaster indeed, and that's the first episode
How an anime about a child can be so cute, funny, heart-wrenching
, dark, etc. all at once is just brilliant.

Oh no another chocolate anime
Why tf would u watch it with dubs?
Don't care for the dub. Prefer the sub. More realistic
Yeah she was saying the Dubs were better because it's Netflix? But that is not true at all in the slightest lol
