I snuck into Harbourside brasserie underage and she had Mark Williams, Erana Clarke and Margaret Urlich doing her back-up vocals. What a treat. She was doing some Roberta Flack - heaven
So devastated to hear of Renee's passing today. Like losing a big sister. What a voice Renee. You will be greatly missed in Oz & forever celebrated with these wonderful recordings. 😭💔
One of my fav muso Kiwi born in Dargaville Mark Williams, i was born not far from where ge grew up... Great to see him songing with one of the legends of Ozzie ... RIP Renee Geyer your music is legend...
a favorite singer of the Maori people in NZ, We all sang her songs at our parties. Its like her voice had this special quality that appealed to our taste. Spotted Mark Williams in the clip remember him playing in band from Dargaville called the Face a long time ago.......
Loved Renee Geyer since the 70's. So sad to hear of her passing. She has a huge following here in NZ. So talented, fabulous & unique voice, so much wonderful music. Thank you lovely lady for all you gave Ive enjoyed your beautiful music many years. RIL
I'm very teary eyed having a Reneeathon, playing her gorgeous voice, after learning she passed away today. Saw her many times in the 70s. Totally under-appreciated in Oz.
This is the best cover/version of "Midnight train to Georgia" Renee's version has got so much groove to it, you can never get sick of listening to this.
Couldn't agree more. Geyer makes this song 'hers and hers alone'. For me, the original is perfection, but this band of exceptional musicians have somehow built on that perfection. Transcendent.
Yep, the memories. She's an Aussie legend. Renee, Marcia, they both copped a lot of flack back in the day. But they carried on and proved everyone wrong. I saw her a few times, they were great shows.
Renee Geyer! bought up on her music as a kid, thought she was a Kiwi...Lol...Great timeless songs, and Go Jade and Mark, wow! that's what you call BV's Awesome.....
Renee Geyer is one the most amazing soul singers Australia has ever produced. First time I heard her in the 70's I got goosebumps. Incredible talent !!! Where is she now?
What a great rendition!!! Mark Williams and friend on vocals.Love it!! Renee an Aussie legend..Enjoy this version more than the original. Keep on Rockin guys...from an Aussie girl...
Saw Renee for the first time on count down when I was 15, fell in love, love her and her music now, this is the best version I have heard, and my god! the back up singers! jade marry me.
I gew up listening to the unique and soulful sound of Renee Geyer and was transported to musical bliss. An extraordinary talent who has had many challenges in her life, but overcame them with dignity. Thank you for enriching my life.
Ahh.. Renee... I placed you in my heart many years ago.. what an extraordinary, beautiful and talented lady. Your musical gift continues to move, heal and entertain us. Thank You!
Been to watch Renee Geyer at several different gigs in New Zealand in the day, she's still a great singer entertainer with her crowd favourites brings back memories.
Renee has always had a big following in New Zealand.....especially amongst us Maori. I'm sure one of us went across the ditch with Cook and fathered an ancestor of hers! 😉
Given that there have been so many great Maori vocalist over the years, that is a tremendous compliment. I saw her live a few years ago and let me tell you, she still gives 100% to her fan.
I love Renee Gayer she is a wonderful singer full of Soul. I remember when I first met her at the Musician Club in Sydney. Don't know if she remembers me but I played at the grand piano with her just one song. At that time, in the 80s, she had a terrific drummer if I am not mistaken his name was Greg Taylor a black man that was a wonderful musician and a nice gentleman. Good times those there were lots of good musicians there Leon Berger, Barry Leaf and the Wiggles the then Cockroaches
The drummer was the black American Greg Tell. Superb drummer with amazing technique and sensational feel. Played on the album "Ready to Deal". Renee and band played on the Don Lane show, and Lane's guitarist Phil Rafael said they could not believe how good Greg was and his power with rolls at the end of the song..... More than 40 years ago.....
Her train has left, so what, coming out of the stack is this world of music, funk, soul playing all the way, forever. Who will remember our little burnt out cinder? RIP.
If you get a chance to see Renee live, do. She gives her heart and soul to the audience and is one of the best live performers you are likely to see away from the big, expensive performance halls.
Beautiful! You have always been a big star with the maori people of Aotearoa, Renee. Loved you back when and love you today! Omg, and I love you too Mark Williams!!
