I had an R8 4.2 Stronic for testing and filming last year. The car felt truely special. Options for 40.000 € like the full carbon fiber package, alcantara and leather interior show you the true quality of Quattro. Hand-built in germany...I often drive past this factory. Nice to have a look inside :)
Great job bringing that production and assembly process of the R8 to us Leo. Thank you sir. I used to work for HMA (Honda Manf. of Alabama) and just seeing how much more meticulous they are at Audi (to be expected I guess when buying a $190K car) compared to the full fabrication, production and assembly lines at Honda is very interesting. Even though the tolerances at Honda were low (4.00mm - 4.25mm for most panel gaps) it's just great to showcase how involved each person is at his/her station with overseeing and taking seriously the quality aspect of their jobs. I work for Kia/Hyundai now and...ummm...yeah...just..get an Audi.
Can't stop admiring the amazing craftsmanship of a car that descended from years of real world championship racing... I'm glad I have a little piece of that :D
I saw a matte blue R8 V10 Plus at the New England International Auto Show this past Sunday. In my opinion, it may have been the best looking car there. We were allowed to touch (not sit inside, sadly), and I have to say that the matte finish paint is really something to behold. That car is a monument to engineering in my book.
As much as I love Drive and Audi... I'm laughing my ass off due to the fact that we just had an R8 delivered with different coloured wing mirrors. Keep up the good work fellas ;)
Anything with a combustion engine and a manual gearbox would be an ideal vehicle for a person like me, who prefers analogue cars over technological marvels. I still dream of owning a Bugatti EB110, which was considered a technological marvel, and that is all the technology I ever need in any of my cars.
647killa The only problem with the Eb110 was the sound. You need to modify the exhaust system to make it sound good. Apparently a muffler removal does the trick (Apparently...).
Sort of reminds me of how they make the Veyron. The way the chassis is split up into three parts. Even the jig and the finished product without body work reminds me of one. Pretty cool.
Tyer Estes Well, they're both owned by VW, so the manufacturing processes are probably very similar for their performance cars. Lamborghini's are probably done similar to the R8.
They missed a little but on the whole pretty good! I highly recommend visiting the factory, it's a lot smaller than you expect and they really let you get on the line.
eh.. was that it? Started off really slow pace, detailed and geeky and am settling in to learn "how to build an R8" bit by bit like the Bentley vids.. hmm thats how they make the chassis huh and... boof their driving it out the door lol.. The rest is in part 2 yeh?
Great job leo....The commentary is fitting to the process of the build. I also love the way you let the engineer from Audi explain the process. One question though. After watching so many "How is it built" super car epidodes how does the Quattro GMBH differ from other manufacturers?
I know right? Its almost 6 years old but still a marvel of engineering. It's one of the only supercars that has production car-like reliability and usability
awesome stuff. Appreciated the "Leo - /TRACKSIDE" recording direction and let the images speak for itself. Will Audi Sport be included in this series? Ulrich Baretzky? McNish?
That guy towards the end was getting a little bit too frisky with that R8... Who could blame him though? I already enjoy this way more than inside Bentley. (I know that's not saying much). Good choice picking this one.
Ive seen in person the first R8 ever in existence in the flesh before everyone, they brought it to nyc for a promotion i did a 24 hour shift watching that car.
Guys as much as i love /drive, i feel like this could have been done better... The music was anti-relaxing, and i would have liked leo to talk more about specific parts. He's in the factory for crying out loud ! He should be bouncing like a child and be curious about all those incredible parts! If you've subscribed to drive, chances are you're a petrolhead... We already know all the general facts (for example the link between the build and the racing driver, the light tunnel... Which are not specific to quattro!!) What really makes quattro? I'd still like tout know. But still, looking forward to the rest of the week. Cheers guys!
The R8 is by far one of the sexiest super cars ever made.

' 2013 / 2014 Audi R8 S tronic ' Test Drive & Review - TheGetawayer
thanks J.F for not being on camera, but "just" being behind the scenes. Excellent job Leo!! loved it, thanks /DRIVE
Don't worry, it'll be 1080p soon. Just give it some time to process.

Whoa. That cutie with the welding torch. :) 1:30
Can't stop admiring the amazing craftsmanship of a car that descended from years of real world championship racing... I'm glad I have a little piece of that :D
Awesome to see Leo doing one of these!
I appreciate you guys latting Leo present this series. I enjoy the enthusiasm and passion Leo brings. I find it infectious.
YES leo needs to do all of these from now on. the charisma maestro.
Cute welder girl 1:30, hell yes!
I loved the R8 since the first day it came out, and I still do. The one and only interesting (new) Audi for me.
Love the music,- sets a perfect mood for this...
Brilliantly done Leo. Man does that audi motor sound phenomenal
Holy shit that Matte Blue R8 near the end, what a colour.
Looks like matte purple to me x_o..still, though, an awesome look.

This is amazing we need more AUDI!
That blue R8 V10, just wow.
Great video hope more manufacturers would allow this type of videos too b shared
Leo is the BOSS!
Keep up the good work!
Great work Leo and Drive, loved it!
Drive producing another top quality piece! Great video!
White one with carbon sides... what an amazing car. One day... ;) Great video, as always.
I frickin love inside videos!!!!!
Audi R8 is the modern art in the automobile industry of today!
Nice cars and nice work Leo.
Leo: such a talented host and presenter. Want to see him do some F1 driver interviews.
Wow. Thanks JF and Leo
Nice work on this series. Good watch!
Great video. You guys are simply the best! Also, cool to see Leo outside of Shakedown. Keep it coming.
Very thoroughly enjoyed. Loved it
1:31 Germany. Where even the welding chicks are hot.
She is hot, she really need some cold.....Ness.
These are great!, have more of these!
Great job Leo!
an interesting inside look. i filmed the r8 lms ultra at nürburgring too
Great video! Thanks :) and the music was awesome too !
As much as I love Drive and Audi... I'm laughing my ass off due to the fact that we just had an R8 delivered with different coloured wing mirrors. Keep up the good work fellas ;)
This was great. I want to see Leo do one of these at Mclaren!
I've visited the factory... something you should have seen in you life. really impressive
Can you visit it any time you want?
I think you have to pay... but we bought an Audi A4 so we got free tickets for the r8 factory
Mitch - ler cool!
11:05-11:10 ... wow.
Anyway, I think the Audi R8 is one of the most understated supercar to ever grace the earth.
One of the best job in the world
Thankyou was great to watch
Damn nice looking car! I would like to have that red R8 V10!
Best car ever made 😊
Leo's perfect for this type of video..
My absolute dream car
The matte blue one at the end was stunning although this felt like little more than a corporate promo vid.
I don't know why, but you guys (Drive channel) attract one of the best clown/trolls on youtube. Enjoyed the video, keep up the good work.
Lovely car. Would just be happy with a regular V8 or V10 R8 as you can get that awesome manual gearbox.
I wish Audi would build an E-Tron Hybrid Twin-Turbo V10 R8 with a Manual Gearbox. That would be AWESOME!
Anything with a combustion engine and a manual gearbox would be an ideal vehicle for a person like me, who prefers analogue cars over technological marvels. I still dream of owning a Bugatti EB110, which was considered a technological marvel, and that is all the technology I ever need in any of my cars.

I would straight pipe a turbo car anyways with a nice exhaust brand. First, the dream must be accomplished though lol.
Nice car. Nice vid. Nice work fella!
What a wonderful job.
Nice to see. Thanks you
Good video! Presenter did well.
Al Pacino really knows his cars :-D
Excellent film
Beautiful cars! awesome vid, keep it up guys!
boring ? if you know anything about cars, this video is quite interesting, but hey, maybe it's just me
Sort of reminds me of how they make the Veyron. The way the chassis is split up into three parts. Even the jig and the finished product without body work reminds me of one. Pretty cool.
Tyer Estes Well they are both part of the VW group, so it doesn't surprise me that that use similar manufacturing techniques.
Tyer Estes Well, they're both owned by VW, so the manufacturing processes are probably very similar for their performance cars. Lamborghini's are probably done similar to the R8.
really cute welder at the 1:33 mark ;)
Great presentation. thanks!
i'm i the only one that saw that cute girl that was welding?
They missed a little but on the whole pretty good! I highly recommend visiting the factory, it's a lot smaller than you expect and they really let you get on the line.
I preferred Leo's delivery on this to JF's on the Bentley films. Staying out of the interviews is a good idea too.
eh.. was that it?
Started off really slow pace, detailed and geeky and am settling in to learn "how to build an R8" bit by bit like the Bentley vids.. hmm thats how they make the chassis huh and... boof their driving it out the door lol..

good god that box full of brake calipers made me shiver
fantastic movie...... all I want in life is an R8!
I know right? Its almost 6 years old but still a marvel of engineering. It's one of the only supercars that has production car-like reliability and usability
1:31 i wasn't expecting to see that
Nicely done
Precision.
One day...
Know that feeling, I yearn to have one...
awesome stuff. Appreciated the "Leo - /TRACKSIDE" recording direction and let the images speak for itself.
Will Audi Sport be included in this series? Ulrich Baretzky? McNish?
Another hit!
Very nice!
Lol, "abbynormal", nice one Leo ;)
Hey Drive Channel, can we see some new Drive clean? I love that series. It's what we can actually do. Lets see some detailing videos!!!!
best tutorial
1:28, come weld my heart!
I enjoyed it, I wish it was more in depth though!
Leo destroys the video.
I want an Audi R8!
That guy towards the end was getting a little bit too frisky with that R8... Who could blame him though? I already enjoy this way more than inside Bentley. (I know that's not saying much). Good choice picking this one.
Waiting for 4k 😜
I love see how build my dream car :)
Nice Gallardo, soon to be Huracan
You should do a tour in VW GlassFactory in dresden, where phaeton is being build. I was there and it was amazing.
god they love their tennis balls ;D
Ive seen in person the first R8 ever in existence in the flesh before everyone, they brought it to nyc for a promotion i did a 24 hour shift watching that car.
So, congratulations for being a watchman, I guess?
yeee!!! R8 +
Cool vid
hmmm..... we've had bentley and now its audi, here's to hoping that the next 'inside' series is the italian member of the VAG family of cars? ;)
My dream car.
welding chick at 1:32 is pretty cute lol
Way better than 'Inside Bentsley'!
what song did you guys use at 0:55??
awesome video!!
Cool video. the constant gasping sound was rather annoying though
Is the matt paint a factory option? Nice
Back when DRIVE channel was absolutely great...
That background music is awful.
Some weird sound of someone sucking in air. Very distracting.
Loved the video but i think the music was a bit distracting. (mind you I have a pair of headphones on).
Guys as much as i love /drive, i feel like this could have been done better...

Leo should do more of this
