Something I loved about this movie as a kid is that it flipped the 2000’s “woman is only pretty after taking her glasses off” trope and did the opposite. Reporter lady (I think Sam was her name?) is seen as beautiful with her glasses. Idk, as a kid that had been wearing glasses for years, that made me really happy to see.

Agreed. I'm really happy this movie subverted that trope that was really common in live action movies and shows back then. Made me feel better about my glssses as a kid.
The trope of "girl/guy takes off glasses and is suddenly attractive" seems to have died out too. Some people are attracted to glasses now. For instance, some people find Bayonetta attractive because of her glasses.

@@leonol197 Actually it was kind of a steady progress. The fiasco of the FLDSMDSFR would have made headlines all day across the world and no doubt many are going take advantage of Flint for sure. However, the 2nd movie had potential ace up their sleeve but they never really used it. The opportunity that they could have done for Chester is that he can both take advantage of the FLDSMDSFR for his own company but at the same time he can be actually concerned with containing the potential threat of the machine in case it may go self aware and be the Skynet of the foodapocalypse instead of being a generic villain at the end. This way, Flint's heartbreaker will hit harder because not only his idol was willing to betray him but Flintalso has to consider that in a way Chester is right, the threat of his machine is still viable for another disaster that it can potentially wipe out life on Earth for real, against Sam's optimism on the issue of the foodimals that they deserve to live.

I find Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs to be really impressive as an adaptation because...in the book on which this movie was based, it was just a short bedtime story that a grandpa was telling to his grandkids about stuff that happened to a special town that rained food. It didn't have any named characters in the story. That means adapting the book into a movie was free real estate for this movie's writers to come up with their own new characters. That takes a lot of guts and imagination to put characters into a longer version of a book that did not have any of them, so I am proud of them for doing that. June 17, 2021, 6:06pm

    • @KrazyKyle-ij9vb
      @KrazyKyle-ij9vb 2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

Seriously! It's not like Dr Seuss adaptations where the original books are complete stories, have clear messages, and are creative in a way that is irreplicable to the point where any addition for a full movie is filler. Cloudy is a book that has very little set in stone and just has the general story of "food takes over the island but it's cool for a while" leading to tons of possibilities to expand the story such as "How did it happen?", "Who caused it?", and "What else was going on here?" This story had creativity that could be built off of, and Sony absolutely did that when creating this movie.
I recently rewatched this movie and loved it. The story is simple, the premise is fun, the comedic elements are top notch, and the emotion is there. I wish this idea of adapting small, basic stories made with heart into fully fleshed stories was something done more often in animation, because this movie would be the gold standard for that archetype of film.

...dang. This all hit way too close to home. Been dealing with a lot of this myself lately. Pretty much my whole life, actually. I've sat in fear of failure for so long, that I've never actually gone out and done it. I've experienced so many times saying or doing the wrong thing that I've just stopped trying, frankly. I've been in a rut that I haven't been able to get myself out of. I've been complacent. I know I need to move forward. But I simply can't. Because I know whatever I do, whatever I try, I'll do wrong somehow. It's just who I am. All that to say this was an excellent video. Maybe this will give me the kick in the butt that I need. Who knows.

Usually the girl lets her hair down and takes off her glasses to make the other characters see she’s actually hot, but in this Flint puts her hair up and puts her glasses on. Sam did a lot just to make it as a reporter, even sacrificing 20/20 vision just to appear attractive on TV and be somewhat successful.

I enjoyed this film as a kid, I'd watch it over and over, and I would not get tired of it. It was one of my defining childhood movies!
And now, I still love it to this day. And those memes of the movie, revived those memories.

I'll be honest, I was getting worried. I missed your videos as I slowly noticed them fading from my recommendations. I started rewatching older videos to help fill the void that appeared with your departure, and it worked for a while. When I saw a new video posted, a goofy grin plastered itself across my face, for I knew you had returned, and with nothing less than another masterfully crafted film analysis. Whatever strife you have been facing, just know that we are all here to help you overcome it. Good to have you back, Nick, we are all proud of you.

Coraline, 9, and Cloudy were all released in 2009. A year for such banger animated movies.

I'm actually really glad that this movie was/is really special to other people than just me. I always loved this movie more than a lot of others that I saw at the same time, but I could never really explain it. Thanks for this

Yeah I loved this movie so much as a kid and my parents loved it too, one of the few movies I had on DVD and watched so many times. I actually just realised that a story I want to tell some day probably as a comic (I’m a graphic design student) has similar themes so turns out it has impacted me more than I knew.

I was in my 11th grade, where kids my age don't watch animated movies anymore. The last day of my computer lesson is a free time and we are allowed to watch movies together, it was supposed to be a fun day. But others braver than me decided to watch horror movies instead. My teacher wouldn't let me curled up and covering my face with a pencil case for two hours so she brought me to her computer, and let me watch Cloudy with a chance of meatball. A foreign animated movie who I thought was childish. Turns out I loved it.
Since then, that movie has always given me a sense of comfort. I start to watch more.
Without it, maybe I wouldn't be talking in English right now.

    To be honest,
Your videos inspire me to continue to make my dream show and to keep going if I fail, I fail.
When you talk about these movies, the way you make jokes about them, the way you list their goods and bads, it really truely does bring pure joy to me and I hope that you won't stop making these video.
    Sincerely,
    a subcriber
