Oh, no, I'm sure I'm going to get a lot of heat for this one, too. Haha. Remember, folks, I was ONLY referring to the "arm talent," the ability to throw a nice-looking pass. I did not say he was the best QB in franchise history -- I did not even come close to saying that. That's it. Carry on with your day. :)
Oh yeah, I remember the day that post went out. Haha. He's a decent qb and has a good arm. He just hasn't shown consistency, is all. Maybe he will this year?
Love you Matt! You're the best. Minor feedback: you don't have to always reference your youtube channel. Just say "Thanks for joining me" instead of "Thanks for joining me on my TH-cam Channel" or "Thanks for tuning in" instead of "Thank you for tuning into my TH-cam Channel"
Hi Matt, I love your unbiased reporting on the 49ers whether the team is good or bad. You just tell it like it is. You never get rah rah or take personal shots like some nameless reporter.
I agree. In my opinion what holds him back is his average to below average ability to make correct decisions quickly/under pressure. But he may have improved with his year on the 49ers. I'm happy for him to find success - just not this weekend!!
You did take some arrows for that comment. The issue is he has a great arm but you need the other stuff too. Processing, accuracy, reading defenses. He is on his 4th team. The giants were not a good team.
Thanks for sharing your insight, Matt. Hopefully the 49ers can get some pressure on Darnold and get him out of rhythm. Vikings have an excellent offensive line, so Sorenson is going to have get creative.
The "arm talent" is why he was drafted 3rd overall. Remember Jeff George & Ryan Leaf? They could probably still sling it, but "Quarterbacking" is more than just throwing the ball.
The way I look at is that Darnold is basically the opposite of Jeff Garcia. Sam has a gun and throws a nice tight spiral. But he's not always accurate, especially under pressure, and his ability to read defenses is suspect. Garcia, on the other hand, didn't have the strongest arm, and a lot of his passes looked like a wounded duck. But the bottom line is that he knew how to "win ugly" and win often.
Darnold definitely has arm talent. But he's inconsistent in terms of accuracy, and he often doesn't read the defense and play as well as he should. The result is he gets in grooves where he's unstoppable, but they are fleeting and his tendencies end up being drive stopping and game losing. It's almost a random effect in that you cant predict when he is "on". In high level sports, when you're the fulcrum of success, those inconsistencies are killer.
I remember wondering why he had been such a journeyman type of player after seeing him when he first came on. He definitely does not suck… I was sorry we couldn’t hang on to him as a really good back up. I’m not sure there a team in the league right now that understands more clearly what can happen if your back up QB’s do not suck than the 49er’s!!!

Noooooo the camera quality got better, I'll miss you blurry Matt

Thank you. Yeah, that is redundant, isn't it?

Appreciate it. Thank you.

He seemed like a really good guy during his year with the 49ers. Everyone with the 49ers has high praise for him.
Even though we know SD, we won’t underestimate his skills. Go niners.
I don't think they'll underestimate him, but I also believe they will know how to defend him.
Excellent report Matt,thank you
Thank you.
GO MATT ! 💪🔥🔥🔥
Haha. Thank you.

And that was my point from the very beginning. A lot of people did not listen to what I said.
Thanks for sharing your insight, Matt. Hopefully the 49ers can get some pressure on Darnold and get him out of rhythm. Vikings have an excellent offensive line, so Sorenson is going to have get creative.
I think the 49ers' secret sauce on defense is they don't try to outsmart themselves.
The "arm talent" is why he was drafted 3rd overall. Remember Jeff George & Ryan Leaf? They could probably still sling it, but "Quarterbacking" is more than just throwing the ball.
Exactly.
I think our new interior on the D Line is going to make problems for Sam Darnold. And you know Bosa will be after him.
I agree with you.
I wouldn't let him play if i was the coach

I agree with that assessment.

I don't think you're wrong.

Thank you for the comment. I love hearing reasonable, rational opinions from others.
Sounds like Darnold is getting past your praise/full of his guns and learned to Brock Purdy!!!!! not be a big gun, dumb joke and prepare!!!!
GO NINERS ! 👍🔥🔥🔥
Wow, Chris Simms is taking the Vikings to cover the spread as a best bet! Apparently his bromance with Shanahan is over! 😲
Purdy better than Darnold, vikings got lucky last week cause Daniel Jones it's a horrible QB. 😂
Yes but dam was great against the giants
There is zero question about that.
Mas-Load!!!! N Juice the rock!!!!
Maioccooooooooooooo!
Haha. Great chatting with you on Tuesday. Hope to see you soon.
Lets see him do it against anyone besides the NY giants, which barely qualifies as a pro team.
Again, I'm not saying he's a lights-out quarterback. I think the 49ers will feast on him.
I think respectfully you were wrong . Steve threw a ball better than Darnald .
As a matter of fact, I talked to Steve Young about this . . . and he totally agreed with me.
Yeah that was a big mistake horrible quote weak asf
Its true young or montana neither had massive arms. Purdy didnt have a massive arm
Darnold was so good that the 49ers waved goodbye after one season.😊
False the other way around. The niners wanted him back
If they wanted him back they could have paid him.
They wanted him back, but the Vikings had a starting job and a $10 million contract.
@@mattmaiocconflkyle even said recently it would have been great to have him back.
Again, it doesn't change the fact that they waved goodbye to him after one year. Money plays into all decisions on a football team.
