    I learned a lot about the methods local trans use to switch plants by watching these. Didn't know they'd back an entire, lengthy train into an old factory siding to pick up a car. Love the colorful array of lengthy trains blowing through towns on the main.

    Loved the switching moves. I also like the power on the other trains that passed, nice array of power. Liked the "B" unit in the Railbox train.

    The weathering of those tank cars at 6:26 is the most realistic I've ever seen! I got dirty just looking at them!

      Yeah they did come out pretty good. Thanks!

    The weathering on that wood industry at 15:45 is top notch. Kudos!

      Yeah it came out really nice. Wish I could say I did it, but another member of the club did that one.

    Only recently discovered model railroad videos on the internet. I 've seen some beauties and this one ranks right up there, guys. Love it. Love the color contrasts. The red Kansas City Eastern scheme on the GP30 is something I'd consider for all your KCE locos. Also, this is the first layout that concentrates on industrial switching that I've come across. Looks like the railroad re-did the roadbed since the last installment I saw (Switching Lewiston Part II). Love the visits by the big road freights - evens it out. Thanks. I haven't been in the hobby in 24 years and this is most enjoyable - almost like having my own layout again. This one si the best of the layouts I've so far seen.

    hi Jason.. all i can say is "it's about time you've done an OP vid" very enjoyable & realistic to watch.. more of these would be appreciated .. Thanks for sharing.. vinny

      @RailfanJason  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Vinny. I do them when I can, like I said, these take time and often I don't have the time to get one put together. HOWEVER, I do have another in the works and it's going to be a little on the different side. So there's another coming in a week or two.

    Great OPS video Jason!! Love that nickname "Xtra Reliable". :D Sick lashup on that intermodal with the IC/CN units! Also what a duo to start the video!! That'd be a neat pair to see for real...oh wait...CN repainted all 4 of the Demo SD70ACe-P6's. :P Like those BN trailers in there.

      Thanks Dan! I had to do some research on Frisco to find out what variety of orange they used on that paint scheme, and happened to find a pic of the real U-boat that had the "XR" on it, it was a one off unit. But yeah, the IC/CN and the MoPac trains, I saw the guys running them and had to include them here.

    • @standard_amer1can760
      @standard_amer1can760 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You know what sounds better? At my train club their a section where two tracks cross. We call it the cross track. Anyways, when we have a passenger train going over it, at pretty high speeds, it sounds amazing!

  • @toddbehrends1373
    @toddbehrends1373 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Does someone load the empties after they are spotted? Why doesn't the main street crossing lights work? Should the train whistle for the crossings while they are switching cars? Are 2 of the empty gons lettered for Indiana Harbor Belt? I like the fact that KCE still uses cabooses. Thank you for the explanations. I like to see the switching videos that you put out. I am waiting to see the train action on the new sections of the railroad that you showed before.

    • @flyboy2610
      @flyboy2610 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The reason the train didn't whistle for the crossings is that those loco's do not have sound.

    Nice switching area. The gon switching could have been handled a bit different. You had the gons connected to units so there was no need to set them out on side track. Just go in, grab loads, set them over, spot Mty's, then go get loads. Whomever paints the clubs equipment does a real nice job. Where is club at?

    Has this layout ever been in a Model Railroad magazine?

  • @geraldratte9254
    @geraldratte9254 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Jason, here is my opinion why we like seeing your ops sessions, IDK if anyone has told you but they are like a How To Do ops sessions and your club layout is so beautiful to see even if I see certain parts often I still enjoy watching your videos, got a few questions: What do you use as operations: car-card, paper list from real switching or from imagination, often notice you mute the sound on engines would be nice to hear them as they move around, is all your engines have plastic railing or most of them have painted brass or steel like Athearn blue box that is what I love about them.

  • @standard_amer1can760
    @standard_amer1can760 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I thought the piggybacks would always go before the intermodal cars/well cars.

    What brand are the GP-30s? I was just at a club (videos coming in a few minutes) of KCS and a lot of the engines were GP-30s and had sound.

    • @RailfanJason
      @RailfanJason  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      These are Proto2000 units. They were produced before sound was a thing, so they aren't set up for it.

    I love operations videos - too many times I see beautiful layouts here on YT but never see the trains run. Nice trackwork - whose double slip switches are those? Code 83 by any chance?

    • @RailfanJason
      @RailfanJason  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed it. The club specifies code 100 track, that way anyone can run anything without the risk of flange issues. The double slips are from Peco... in fact all turnouts are Peco as per club standards.

    how'd u make the empty and the loaded cars couple and uncouple

    • @RailfanJason
      @RailfanJason  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Couplers work basically the same way as the real ones. Push two cars together and they couple themselves. Uncoupling requires you to do it by hand, I just edit out my hand coming into view, grabbing the cars and uncoupling them.

    What kind of engine is the Rio Grande 5307? An SD30?

    • @RailfanJason
      @RailfanJason  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, both of those black and silver Rio Grande units are variations on an SD30. Those are going to be repainted as KCE's at some point.

    • @jsallscales7856
      @jsallscales7856 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Very cool. Were the SD30s a real locomotive? All I can find are CP's SD30-ECOs

    • @RailfanJason
      @RailfanJason  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, there was never such a thing as an SD30. Back in 1963 when the 2250hp GP30 first came out, it was only about a year or two later when the 2500hp GP35 and SD35 debuted. EMD just never saw a need to design, develop and produce a six axle, 2250hp "SD30," when the SD35 had 2500hp.

    how do you get the locomotive to run in reverse?

    • @RailfanJason
      @RailfanJason  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      By pressing the direction button on our hand held controllers? Or do you mean how do two loco run together while one is backwards? It's all controlled through the decoders we put in the locos. Put the two units on the track, call up their numbers on the controller, hit the directional button on the unit that is in reverse so it runs the same way as the other, then consist the one in reverse to the first unit, then you can run them both together.

    is kce your shortline?

    • @RailfanJason
      @RailfanJason  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, and no. KCE is my fictional railroad, but it's a small class 1. It operates roughly 7000 - 8000 miles of track. So a bit larger than KCS, but approximately 14K miles less than NS (smallest of the "Big 4").
      Here's a video I posted last year on the history of the KCE:

      @@RailfanJason It is in the center of the image, just on the underside of the bridge. As the two locomotives pass beneath the bridge, it descends on its web down to track level, to the right of the locos.
