You gotta think, many funny people become so because of pain. They use humor to deflect from personal issues. They then become the greatest of actors. It's hard to be naturally funny though.

This literally happened to my husband and I (except we already have 2 kids). We lost our baby and then he had a mental breakdown and was hospitalized in a psych facility for 2 months… it was an awful and terribly sad time for the whole family.

Melissa McCarthy is a fine actor. I've noticed that many, primarily comedic actors, are also exceptional dramatic actors (Jack Lemmon, Walter Matheau, Robin Williams, and Reese Witherspoon to name a few). I watched this movie despite the generally poor reviews. I was amazed that the critics weren't more enthusiastic about this movie. There was not a false note in the entire film--not in the production, the direction, the dialog, or the cinematography. The acting was flawless. I laughed out loud at the comic moments, shed tears during the painful scenes, and winced and cried aloud during a number of shocking moments (the unpleasant bird incident; you know which one I mean). I plan to watch it several more times. It is a gem of a movie about pain, grief, disconnection, separation, and the gradual recovery of human beings suffering through devastating loss. It's also the perfect illustration of individuals who grieve in their own way but can't communicate their pain and guilt to their family members.
The trailer brought out the tissues, imagine watching the movie! Stocking up before I watch this for sure! Melissa's really fitting these roles that need to connect more with people.

A beautiful film...and Melissa McCarthy absolutely shines! Just watched on Netflix. O'Dowd is superb and Kevin Kline pulls out all the stops as a vet/psychiatrist. Film pulls you in on an emotional roller-coaster. Get out the tissues. Amazing cast. Some very poignantly made messages made throughout. Highly recommend.

Maybe 2 minutes of that movie didn't have tears in my eyes.......I was going through a very difficult time which caused the love of my life to turn to alcohol and cocaine to try and balance pushing me away leading me to check into the psych ward because I began using meth and pills to hide the thoughts of suicide. When I got out all I wanted was to tell her I was sorry and for her to feel sympathetic and sorry for her part in our breakdown......but it never came....until yesterday! She watched this movie and left me a voice mail saying she was sorry and that she understands why I did what I did and how I did it! The Love of my life, heart and soul is finding her way back to the surface! This movie is worth 10 stars out of a possible 5! The others are for therapy extra credit! A truly must see movie for anyone and everyone struggling through depression!

I don't care if people are fat or thin, stupid way to judge character or skills. I will be sure to check out Nine Perfect Strangers. I like Nicole Kidman too. Great to have women in great roles. I like to see it as complementary, not a competition.
I have seen this film and I really liked it. It dealt with the subject matter subtlely and not over sentimentally. This is one of the hardest things to go through in life. The acting was subtle and moving. I truly cannot believe the score on rotten tomatoes from the professionals. I have never been so disappointed to read such reviews for a film.
I am reading looking forward to seeing this. People that are seen only in their background of comedy yet have so much to give in dramatic and everyday roles. They are the hidden gifts I always wait for. They are actors!

When both parents are excited for and emotionally invested into their future with their child-to-be, the loss of that future family is not going to be guaranteed mostly on the mother. There are fathers who can be mentally broken just as deeply, even without the hormonal influence of pregnancy loss.
this movie TOTALLY caught me off guard today, ... put it on as background ambience and it just held my attention for the duration and even had me choked up with emotions from deep within. What a most beautiful movie indeed, Highly recommended viewing 🙃
We lost our baby two weeks ago and watching this movie really hit home. Grieving is not an easy process let alone going through it alone. But just like what Melissa’s character in the movie said, we can’t just quit right? We have to grieve well and move on. Easier said than done but I know me and husband will get through it together because we are definitelt stronger together.
My heart needs a movie like this right now, too bad it will not be until September when I get to see it. I do not have a husband, it is just me, so this movie should suffice and help me see what love is still like. I love Melissa McCarthy. I miscarried years ago, that relationship did not last, it was not God's plan. I have a 16 year old son that I love to be a mom to, God is kind and amazing. I can't wait to see this movie. Something to look forward too.

I don't care if people are fat or thin, stupid way to judge character or skills. I will be sure to check out Nine Perfect Strangers. I like Nicole Kidman too. Great to have women in great roles. I like to see it as complementary, not a competition.

I have seen this film and I really liked it. It dealt with the subject matter subtlely and not over sentimentally. This is one of the hardest things to go through in life. The acting was subtle and moving. I truly cannot believe the score on rotten tomatoes from the professionals. I have never been so disappointed to read such reviews for a film.
Man. I will be rejoining Netflix just for this. I think I’m in love. And I haven’t even seen the full movie yet.

When both parents are excited for and emotionally invested into their future with their child-to-be, the loss of that future family is not going to be guaranteed mostly on the mother. There are fathers who can be mentally broken just as deeply, even without the hormonal influence of pregnancy loss.
I am yet to find a movie with Chris Dowd that I don't love. Looking forward to watching this one.

this movie TOTALLY caught me off guard today, ... put it on as background ambience and it just held my attention for the duration and even had me choked up with emotions from deep within. What a most beautiful movie indeed, Highly recommended viewing 🙃

We lost our baby two weeks ago and watching this movie really hit home. Grieving is not an easy process let alone going through it alone. But just like what Melissa’s character in the movie said, we can’t just quit right? We have to grieve well and move on. Easier said than done but I know me and husband will get through it together because we are definitelt stronger together.

My heart needs a movie like this right now, too bad it will not be until September when I get to see it. I do not have a husband, it is just me, so this movie should suffice and help me see what love is still like. I love Melissa McCarthy. I miscarried years ago, that relationship did not last, it was not God's plan. I have a 16 year old son that I love to be a mom to, God is kind and amazing. I can't wait to see this movie. Something to look forward too.
