Amazing drone videos of the unusual sexual behaviour of an adult and a calf killer whale at Sea Lion Island, Falkland Islands.
In November 2018 orca adult males OVO and PINNONE met a group of females and calves very close to the shore. OVO started following the group and after a while focused on the younger calves, while the females remained farther apart. After a little while OVO started to follow a specific (male) calf, apparently trying to mate. Shortly after, the calf also showed sexual behaviour towards OVO. The same kind of behaviours went on for more than an hour, while females where apparently not interested at all, and the other adult male, PINNONE, was just resting still on the sea floor (he can be seen midway in the video). This is the first time that we have been able to get drone footages of sexual behaviour by Sea Lion Island killer whales. To our best knowledge, the sexual behaviour of wild southern hemisphere killer whales has been rarely observed.
He's floating around on his back like anyone...anyone..anyone?
Daniel Filimon He* dumb ass.
lol
Haha
😂😂😂🤦🏾♀️
😂😂😂😂😂
To the female whales: I’d swim away if I saw that too.
😂😂🤭🤣
🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
It's certainly long because they are huge on top of eachother and mating can be difficult in waters, certainly just a tiny part go in.
Too big for the girl whales!
Oh, they like it. They just don’t wanna admit it! 😉
Do mating orcas have "orcasms"?
Vickers VC10 Very funny

xD oh yes it doesss lmao
FOUL! 😭
i like how in the end the big male gives up and ends up with a smaller male
Some sort of playing behaviour...
That’s a female, you can tell by the curved dorsal fin
1st of all in my chris tucker voice "YOU IS TOO DAMN BIG!"

So when the orca gets on its back to attract mates it's "nature" but when I do it its "its a public pool" and "the cops are called"
😂

He's definitely grower and not a show'er. 👍🙂
Nope He is grower and Definitely a shower too.
That's literally just the tip. Orca dicks aren't small. It just isn't out all the way. Which means he's probably not actually trying to get it on. He's probably just going around with it partly out.
no such thing as grow or show or etc or not, bigx etc 1uferiox bloat, doesn tmatter, ceptuxuax, outx, can outx etc any nmw s perfx
Dude if these videos have taught me anything in the past half hour it’s learnt me to make it a mission to never swim nor swallow the water. There is blood, poop, and sperm being pumped into the water at any given moment. Yeah I’ll stick to land.
And the air you breathe contains billions of spores and pollen (basically fungi/plant semen), bacteria and viruses...Don't think too heavily on it mate
Apparently whale poop is very environmentally beneficial. It activates phytoplankton on the ocean surface to release oxygen gas into the atmosphere.
And sperm lives for a few days, it's not like it's in the ocean forever.
That's why the oceans taste salty.
@@GTLeesXD
The air carries disturbing things too. Such as plant sperm. So don’t think about it to hard…
Could be a learning behaviour? Could the male be teaching a sexual behaviour? The male calf seemed to repeat the sexual beahaviour OVO performed, while none of the other females of calves were interested. Anyway, super amazing video! Amazing and beautiful animals!
It could be. We have been surprised when watching this, but it is definitely possible that it is a learning behaviour.
It's very common in orcas for males to engage in sexual behaviour with each other, including across age groups. Many male orcas spend their entire lives with their mother and her other offspring. This is unusual in the animal kingdom because adult male animals usually have too much sexual energy and aggression to remain safely in their natal group and not cause problems ( not to mention risk inbreeding). The common sexual behaviour between male orcas is theorised to provide a sexual outlet for these males. Many dolphin species have a strong culture of sexual play between males.
@@bethphelps6671 We should learn from this and encourage our males to be sexual with each other when they feel the urge and willing woman is not around 😊 heh 😊
SatumainenOlento stfu
@@bethphelps6671 Female orca have been observed doing this as well. I think we should not expect animals to follow any prescribed 'human' codes of behavior. They have their own culture and we should respect that.
me: i wonder how killer whales mate
my brain: no- i swear
body: searches it up
my brain: oh dear-
my eyes: 👀
its one of those things that you cant figure out wihthout seeing it :[
Same here…🤣🤣
This is so interesting, it seems to me that the male calf started to imitate OVO’s behavior, maybe because he wanted to release sexual energy too?
Ti could be, definitively seemsvto ne imitating.
@@ElephantSealResearchGroup what?
forbidden orca rizz
Am I the only one who noticed the other large male sleeping on the sea floor?
Yep, now I have to go back and watch it again. :))
This is one of the weirdest thing happening during this video. The male sleeping on the sea floor is the biggest in that area, and we really don't know exactly how to interpret his behavior. But incredibly interesting !
@@ElephantSealResearchGroup Do you think he's trying not to steal his friends thunder?😂 I know biologists will say "don't put human thoughts into a dolphins head". But we're both highly social mammals, who have both been known to display altruistic behaviour.
I noticed it right away. Big guy just relaxing on the sand😍....
he’s a сuсkold
That one laying on the sea floor was embarrassed by his friend being desperate and cringey so he stayed at the bottom trying to blend in with the sand hoping nobody would notice him lmao
Ah ah ah !!!
Tbh this was actually interesting I never knew how some sea life reproduced
Brings new meaning to the term "free Whilly"!!!
01:13 something grows.
Thanks 😀
I believe it is called “sperm” it’s how they mate
Which makes the female pregnant with a calf
@@joshsgaming8995 It’s not called sperm. The male inserts his genitals inside the female. Then sperm comes out of the make and then the female is pregnant.
I'm suddenly in that uncomfortable corner of youtube again....I've seen much more than I wanted to today.
Looks like a typical scene in the nightclub.... someone mix some club music to this video....
Shortly after this footage was taken the Orca filed a lawsuit for invasion of privacy lol!
Stop spreading lies on the internet...
Good one ! 😂😂😂
Just showcasing my goods there’s a camera in the sky lol take that
I just finished watching a video someone else put on TH-cam of what a humpback whales manhood looks like, but from the view from the camera the killer whales manhood looks kinda..... Bigger.
this is some amazingly rare footage! thank you for sharing this with us! please give actual drone operator a hell yeah. I'll join just for this short video. would like a link to see the entire seen in edited. AWESOMESAUCEY
This will be soon part of a scientific paper. As soon as it is published the whole video might become available
OVO: "That's what I like about these orca calves. I get older, they stay the same age."
I’m curious, are there animals who practice privacy in any way, shape or form?
Most of them.
Besides humans? No. But wild life knows that mating is a vulnerable position. So to some degree they practice "privacy" to avoid being attacked while reproducing
Why TH-cam?
“Pinnone” is like I’m just gonna chill here on the floor while this fool OVO is trying to practice getting some cuddy. I’m not getting all worked up and can’t finish the job.
this video changed my life.thank you
An happy seal same

So interesting, real natural behaviours !!!
Incredible footage!
Thanks
Pedophile whale ?💀
shield your eyes
That looks like Transient Stanley who frequents the Puget Sound/San Juan Islands!!!
Did you see the same kind of behaviour in Puget Sound ?
Did she blue ball him?
That female wale looked way to young….
Now I want to see how blue whales do it
Was it targeting for the baby-?
Good question: we think it is just a sort of social behaviour, not really trying to mate, the interactions never looked aggressive.
Whales can be desperate, too !!!🤣🤣💀
They don't show you that on the National Geographic
Bellissimo video !!!
Grazie
it's just a plane trying to refuel midair
She's too young for you bro
Directors cut of free willy looks wild
So this is where the free willy title comes from
Lol
The female look like babies next to the male, I had no idea there was such a massive size difference in orcas!
Some of the orcas in the videos are calves, few years old, so the size differece between the big male and them is huge. But also difference between adult males and females is pretty big.
@@ElephantSealResearchGroup wait so the male killer whale is a pedophile?????
@@Doom_Squid_Son I imagine the concept of "pedophile" is a bit different for animals than for humans, but anyway the male didn't really try to mate with the calves. Sime sort of sexual behaviour, but its meaning is not so clear
@@ElephantSealResearchGroup so he basically sexually harassed them lmao.
Man those orcas
That IS a baby. The females (3 of which you can see at the beginning) are smaller but not to that extreme.
Interesting. I'll try this maneuver the next time I go swimming with my wife.
Thats for orca. Imagine how big blue whale have

That's probably longer than your leg . Lol
Orcas: hehe

:-)
Can he hurt/kill the calf if they mate?
That calf was a young male. Orcas dont mate and have young till their teens.
Never saw anything like that, I don't think at all. They didn't mate, and I don't think a male would really try with a young calf.
Helloooooo ladies...
Is this caught on drone?
Yes, Mavic Pro.
No, a submarine.
What if the Male decides to get on top
Martin Evans 🤣🤣
It's just key in his pocket.
Similar to guppies just that guppies dont swim upside down
the whale just chilling on the sea floor was so cool to see
Fun fact they are actually not whales but they are actually dolphins because of them being in the dolphin family
Yeah, I like that guy. He's so chill and cute!
I’m my opinion he’s probably embarrassed cause of what his brother (if I’m not wrong) was doing to the calf. He’s so embarrassed that he lays down the sea floor, hoping no one finds him otherwise it would became even more embarrassing to him
I feel embarrassed that this video came up in my recommendation
This looks difficult
This dude is the definition of cupcakkes lyrics
Reminds me of creepy guys following females everywhere...
Almost :-)
I dont understand if the female is upside down or if that's the male. Why is it upside down???
The male is upside down often in this video, and calves just swimming above. Not sure why tje males use that position
@@ElephantSealResearchGroup its because the whales' mating practice is: the male showing off their 😳 at the top so female whlaes would go and mate with them
I am very disturbed. Your disclaimer won't save you from a lawsuit.
She was like F*** That!!! 😂
they were both males though
The male whale: want to mate me ;) I have an big **** )
The female: I - um - no
He's definitely showing off to the young male whale who's the bigger stud
WHAT IN THE BOLO IS THAT??! LMAOOOO

Seems to be in the ocean to me 🤔🤷🏼♀️
Sorry but this is totally in the wild ! These are killer whales in the Falkland Islands, not captive at all. This is the beauty of this video !
Yes, absolutely !
Would that some of the footage was actually taken underwater.
And Another Thing:
Given that killer whales are close cousins of dolphins, is it not possible that orcas would mate for fun and friendship?
Maybe.
Orcas are dolphins 🐬
@@mothermovementa Obviously ... no wonder sexual openness is a given among dolphins and kin. And actually feeling rather good about it.
