I love to xc country ski and we have almost 2 miles of trails we ski in our woods when we get snow, but sadly in Southern IN that isn't very often. I hope I live long enough that we get an early November snow and I can ski to my deer blind during hunting season. We came up your way and stayed in one of the ski in cabins at Tettegouchi St park. Your definitely in the right area for xc skiing. Have fun. The fish scales in the bottom mean they are waxless skis but it doesn't hurt to give them a coat of Swix fast wax. It looks like a deodorant dispenser. Super easy. The ones that were slick on the bottom were probably wax type skis which are awesome but a bit more work.
I thought about making a rocker and some outdoor furniture myself too. However, when i priced out just the wood, screws, and glue it would have cost more than buying it, lol. Nice score my man. As far as painting it goes, do what you want for sure, its not like its a Louis XV chair or something
